I was visiting from out of town so I'm not sure how the nail cottage compares to other nail places in the area but I left disappointed. The salon was clean and they fit me in with very little notice but that about all my positive comments. I got a manicure + pedicure and it took very long. I'm used to a 45-60min. nail experience and this was over two hours. The quality of the filing and buffing was inconsistent and not very good. The price was almost 3 times what I'm used to paying for less quality. Unfortunately the worst part of the experience was how gossipy and catty the personnel was. The three would share stories and judge mental opinions about clients from earlier that day, talk very aggressive political opinions and their thoughts on those who did not share their views, and were very quick to dismiss the work quality and cleanliness of the minority owned and operated mail salons in the area. Manicure was bad, pedicure was fine, price to quality ratio was off, and environment sucked. I will not return nor would I recommend to others. read more

Went for a eye brow waxing and was very surprised and disappointed. It was my first visit and it will be my last due to the fact that the business was filthy and children and a pet was free range and the chairs to sit in were uncomfortable and torn it felt like I was in a garage or a chicken house yuck and it was pricey as well read more

First I will say that Donna did a great job with my nails and took her time getting them just the way I wanted them. They were all very nice and I have no complaints there. The major issue I had was not a single face mask was worn by any of the employees or customers other than myself. There was a dog walking around the salon which she touched while doing my nails and did not wash her hands after. There was no sanitizing of the station once she was done with a customer and there were baby toys everywhere. And I don't think talking politics is very professional in a salon either. If you are not a regular at this salon they pretty much ignore you.I really don't like giving negative reviews, but this place was just so unprofessional and made me feel very uncomfortable. read more

Donna, Soon and Jessica make you feel like royalty. The foot spa is perfect, the foot scrub and massage is so relaxing, the designs and nail art are beautiful. Depending on the time day, it can be slow (and good for walk ins) or very busy (then you just make an appointment in advance or come in later). On a Friday at 1pm, people kept calling or stepping in expecting an immediate opening, but I made an appointment for three of us (mani pedis before the wedding) the day before, so we kept them busy. The three nail technicians were great to talk to and Devine service! My two friends and I were grateful and enjoy our beautiful nail makeovers. I have been having a great experience at this salon. Donna is very attentive to detail, which is SO HARD to find in a nail technician, at least for me. I usually get a gel manicure. Crappy salons will not use enough acetone to remove the old gel and then file the gel off instead of letting it soak off. This ruins your nails, and to my delight Donna avoids this approach. Additionally, they have the higher quality UV trays so that you only have to keep your hands in them for a short time to harden the gel. This takes a lot of time off of the manicure and well worth it! The salon is clean and attractive, they honor appointments on time, and overall it's a very nice experience. Got a manicure and pedicure from Donna, the owner of the salon, and I am so happy with it. The location is moving next month I think, but the place on S Bend Ave is really nice, open, and CLEAN! Donna did a great job with my nails and paid great attention to detail. I guess because of that it took a little longer than usual, but it was completely worth it (and I realized that a lot of places I've been have really rushed through it and done a mediocre job). She obviously knows what she is doing. Donna did mention that she can "rub people the wrong way," which I can see, although I thought she was great. I think it's because Donna seems to have a really loyal customer base (a lot of people called to schedule appointments with her even just while I was there) so she doesn't have to take crap from anyone! For example, do NOT be late for your appointment without calling because she said she does not tolerate that. Yes! Go Donna!!! I haven't had a manicure in eight years. I finally decided to treat myself as I am a dog groomer so my nails and hands take a beating. I called Nail Cottage and got an appointment the same day after work! The owner was nice and helpful over the phone. I walked in and my nail tech was ready and waiting. I picked out my colors and she started. The whole process was easy, relaxed and gentle. Donna is the absolute best! She and her gals go above and beyond and do beautiful, long-lasting manicures. Went in to get a pedicure and they told me to come back in an hour, and wrote me in for an appointment. I came back for my appointment and they had forgotten about it and I ended up waiting 15 minutes while I watched the employees talk and eat while watching an obnoxious movie. The water for my pedicure was cold, and when the asked how the temperature was, I said it was cold, but they never did anything to change it. I showed them a picture of some nail art that I wanted on my toes...and they didn't even try to do anything similar. My toes look terrible and I am embarrassed to wear sandals. They were extremely rude and unprofessional during my entire experience, not to mention the salon was dirty and cluttered. (I had to give the salon one star or my review would not be posted.) I went to The Nail Cottage to have my nails filled. Donna used a different fill than what I was used to. As she was "dipping" my nails, she told me to bare with her, as she didn't have much experience with pink and whites. She put on numerous coats of clear polish. That evening the clear polish began to peel. The Nail Cottage was already closed, so I called the next morning. I asked whomever I spoke with if the service could be done again or to refund my money. Her response was to refund my money and go somewhere else. She hung up before I could give her my name or information. I called my bank a few days later and they had no indication of a reverse charge. I sent a message to The Nail Cottage and Donna replied that she would give me half of my money back because I rebooked the appointment and did not show up. That was a LIE! The salon offered a refund! I was accused of being a bully and bashing her business. I am far from a bully and expect others to have the same integrity I do. The owner of this salon is not an honest person. Love this place. Newly moved into a cute little cottage at 2036 South Bend Ave. I called ahead and they were able to immediately accommodate my schedule. The shop is clean and pretty. The ladies working were all very personable and professional. I had my gel nails removed by Soon. She was gentle and meticulous. I loved talking with her and the rest of the shop-- the open atmosphere makes it a great place to "get away" but also to connect with others. The prices are very reasonable. I wanted to like this place but on my first visit, I was greeted by the owner on the phone with a probation officer or police officer discussing very personal matters. Then my manicure was started and stopped to work on someone else. I waited 30 minutes for them to finish my nails and finally left with only a few nails filed. My bridal party and I attended the Nail Cottage for pre-wedding manicures and pedicures. It was a FANTASTIC experience! The employees were professional and fun to spend our time with (about 3 hours). I have never experienced the level of homophobia I just endured until I stepped into this establishment. The two women who worked there were having a conversation as if I wasn't even there or maybe they just didn't care that I was there and felt comfortable enough to make the type of comments they did without any sort of regard or respect for others. The woman who was doing my nails was talking about how her and her friend got so uncomfortable watching this man on the television because he was gay and then the other woman working proceeded to say how attractive men couldn't possibly be gay because all gay men are unattractive and it all started in the womb. They also continued to repeat the word "faggot" over and over again while chuckling and continued to make me feel extremely uncomfortable as I was the only customer in the establishment at the time. Maybe it's because I'm from out of state and this was an extreme culture shock to me but never have I ever heard vulgarity such as this, especially at somebody's place of occupation. I cant believe this place even has the nerve to sit amongst Notre Dame . Smells like smoke, massage chair barely massages and are all torn. I had French tips done on both my fingernails and toenails and immediately after leaving went across the street to have the polish changed. My polish was uneven and sloppy. That being said, my technician was very nice and my sisters did not have that same experience (they both got full color). The "signature" pedicure lacked hot wax as it described on the menu and at one point they scrubbed my leg with generic antimicrobial soap- very unprofessional in my opinion. Horrible service and below average manicure. Today was the second time I came to the Nail Cottage. The first time I was turned away after standing in the establishment for 5 minutes without being acknowledged or helped. After someone finally talked to me they rudely asked "what are you standing there for, do you need something?" That was months ago so I figured I'd give them a second chance. They were just as rude, but this time they actually did my nails. My cuticles are not neat and there is polish all over them. Additionally, the polish is not put on evenly. Went here due to the reviews. My regular manicure took over an hour and was awful. I got a dark color and it was all over my nails and cuticles when she finished. It has missing spots as well. The owner must have come to look at the job and suggested to the lady to put a 3rd coat but who has time for that after over an hour long manicure? I could have done a better job on my nails at home. This place is excellent!!! I came in today because a previous salon had ruined my shellac nails and I was desperate for someone to fix them! The second I walked in everyone was so warm and welcoming. The three ladies working were so sweet, did such an amazing job on my nails, and because my nails were so bad they fixed them for FREE. I have never seen someone work on my nails so meticulously before in my life. They CARE so much about detail and cleanliness. Best of all, they will do your nails the RIGHT way without damaging them.
