Two of those classes were with Rhythm kids. This class is wonderful for my active boy. We've done one in-person class and two virtual classes. I was skeptical about the virtual class, however it's perfect for my son in the late afternoon when its hard to get him out of the house and his energy is a little lower. We have taken classes with Linda and Jennifer and they are both so fun and engaging. They are so good at working with preschoolers. They ask questions of the children to get them thinking and to keep them engaged. They are funny and energetic and always smiling. They never ever tell a child to sit and listen. They respect every child's individual needs whether s/he needs to sit or move around, pay attention or not. I can't say enough about these teachers. After several weeks of taking his first music class, I heard my kiddo playing out the rhythm patterns. He's also started making up his own songs. He gets excited to find fermatas and rests in sheets of music. He talks about piano and forte. I see him growing and really appreciating music. On another note, the music is wonderful. We've kept every album from each class and listen to them frequently. It's easy on adult ears too. You know you like an album when you listen to it alone in your car! Singing, playing simple songs on ukulele, simple key notes on the piano, naming so many musical instruments, role playing, painting and doing art projects...I am sure I missed something but the point is that there was a lot of learning done in a fun way in just a week. The teachers Mrs. Goldman and Mrs. Cobb are very nurturing and make sure the kids stay on task in a kind way. In my mid-40s Coren became my first instructor after he selflessly suggested what type of guitar to buy when I contacted him for that expertise alone. With regard to practicing, it took me a year and a half to find my groove. Which is to say other than cramming for an hour before our sessions I didn't practice. Week after week I felt self-conscious due to that lack on my part. On any given day Coren was always cool fielding me where I was at. Whether face to face or via Zoom, he is an attuned cat. Something clicked last month. I'm practicing a lot and there's been a significant improvement in my ability. I have gone from hiding that I play to ensuring the performance of a song or two centerpieces any family distanced call I'm in. It brings joy into my family's spaces near and far, and I know that is what drives Coren, continuing the awakening to the joy that comes from playing music. The receptionist tells me that he messaged the instructor and is waiting in her response. After a few more minutes he tells me that she was not aware of a lesson today because she did not check her schedule. he apologizes and offers to reschedule us for the following week. We show up again the following week about 10 minutes early and the instructor is not there. So after a few minutes, I ask the receptionist. He confirms she should be here by now as they like to have all instructors arrive 10 to 15 minutes before a scheduled session. Clearly that was not happening. After 5 minutes past our appointment time. Someone comes running in past us and goes into a room. She then come out, calls a name and motions for my daughter to come with her. i asked her who she was, she says she is Nari. Clearly calling my child the incorrect name, I want to give feedback to the manager. The receptionist tells me Luke is the manager as well. Which is shocking as he clearly sees what's going on and he too says nothing to acknowledge it. But he apologizes as he witnessed the issues and states that their needs to be more coaching of the employee. if you end up with this instructor be mindful that you may end up with last minute cancellations and no communication and lack of professionalism.

I've taken instruments to Chantilly music for over a decade, off-and-on. From elementary school to…read morea college music major to eventually teaching to gigging and setups, I've had great experiences buying, having repairs done, and having setups done here. I think the most instructive story to date, though, would be the time I was about to bring in a guitar to get set up and hastily grabbed a bass on the way out the door too, figuring "this hasn't been played in a few years, it's safe to assume it needs a setup too." I hadn't been in years. I had just moved back to the area and there was no reason for anyone at the shop to know me or treat me differently. I dropped off the guitar and the bass asking for new strings on the guitar and a setup on each. I know they do their setups over at Reston Music off-site, meaning they'd have to transport it there and back to the technician. When I came to get them a few days later, the bass came back with a note that said "intonation is fine, strings are already very low -- no charge. Let me sum that up: I just hastily assumed my old, neglected bass needed a setup on the way out the door of my house, I dropped it off fully intending to pay for a setup, and it was already fine. They could've just charged me and handed it back without touching it and I'd have been none the wiser, but they spent time and gas moving it around and looking at it just to tell me honestly that it was fine like it was and I didn't need to pay them for it. I love this whole family of stores. Ernie, who works the counter frequently at the Chantilly location, really knows his stuff across the whole line of instruments and the brands and quality of replacement parts, and he won't hesitate to help you figure out exactly what you need *within your budget,* outlining the cost-benefit for your options. This place operates with integrity and attention-to-detail and they really take care of their customers. I don't take my instruments anywhere else.
