The staff is very rude I went in there and all of the workers gave me a mean glare. I DIDNT FEEL WELCOMED AT ALL

I've taken instruments to Chantilly music for over a decade, off-and-on. From elementary school to a college music major to eventually teaching to gigging and setups, I've had great experiences buying, having repairs done, and having setups done here. I think the most instructive story to date, though, would be the time I was about to bring in a guitar to get set up and hastily grabbed a bass on the way out the door too, figuring "this hasn't been played in a few years, it's safe to assume it needs a setup too." I hadn't been in years. I had just moved back to the area and there was no reason for anyone at the shop to know me or treat me differently. I dropped off the guitar and the bass asking for new strings on the guitar and a setup on each. I know they do their setups over at Reston Music off-site, meaning they'd have to transport it there and back to the technician. When I came to get them a few days later, the bass came back with a note that said "intonation is fine, strings are already very low -- no charge. Let me sum that up: I just hastily assumed my old, neglected bass needed a setup on the way out the door of my house, I dropped it off fully intending to pay for a setup, and it was already fine. They could've just charged me and handed it back without touching it and I'd have been none the wiser, but they spent time and gas moving it around and looking at it just to tell me honestly that it was fine like it was and I didn't need to pay them for it. I love this whole family of stores. Ernie, who works the counter frequently at the Chantilly location, really knows his stuff across the whole line of instruments and the brands and quality of replacement parts, and he won't hesitate to help you figure out exactly what you need *within your budget,* outlining the cost-benefit for your options. This place operates with integrity and attention-to-detail and they really take care of their customers. I don't take my instruments anywhere else. read more

We've been taking piano for years from a private instructor. I didn't feel like my girls were making any progress. We tried out a few other instructors and for various reasons, nothing was clicking. We tried Chantilly Music in a last ditch effort and I am so happy we did. Both instructors, Phil and Feodore (I'm sure I misspelled that, sorry) are fantastic. I can't believe the progress my girls have made in just a few months. I wish we had gone to them from the beginning, but I'm relieved we eventually did find them. read more

Completely agree with the others on this tread the staff is horrible and rude. My daughter attended for years with no problems until the last several months. Not only has the teacher that she worked with for years "walked out" the staffs term - they are all nasty and mean to deal with. Can't answer any questions, bad mouth their new owners and assign blame to their customers. I had to call multiple times (five) to get a refund I was due for lessons my daughter did not receive. I would NEVER recommend this location for lessons or purchase of any items you might need. read more

The sales person there was pretty rude and possibly racist. I went in there to get one guitar fixed and another guitar set up and the sales person kept skipping me. I was in there four times and he rung out people that arrived after me before he rung me out each time. I was the only person of another other ethnicity there each time so it seems like questionably behavior. Not only that but they charged me $60 for a guitar set up and left the guitar less tuned within itself than it was initially. Bad customer service and unprofessional guitar work. read more

They are pretty slack when it comes to giving you an expected completion time on repairs. I chatted with them about 4 times, and *each* time the answer was "most likely it will be done tonight, at any rate tomorrow".. So not sure what the issue is. It was a flute, a simple repair - not a big deal. And if you are backed up, then just tell the customer it will take 2 weeks.. instead of "almost ready". And they did fix one thing, while slightly making another thing less than optimal. Upon debating this, the owner did give me a slight price break , so that was good. read more

Ah yes. Take me back to the day I first layed eyes on my beautiful guitar. "The Man", as I like to call him, was walking the hall with me, and helped me pick out a guitar according to my price range and other costumizations. Later, he told me about the history of my guitar and I bought it. It was great. I go one a month to catch up and change strings. The Chantilly Music store is the To Go place if you want an instrument at anytime. read more

The two guys that i have had to deal with in this store are arrogant and nasty. No matter how nice or patient i have tried to be with them they are always rude. 2 weeks ago i dropped off a violin to have a bridge replaced, now this is a simple fix, loosen the strings and slide the new piece in place, tighten the strings back up. Nothing major. I call today to get a status update as i was lead to believe that it would be a couple of weeks. Before i can even complete my sentence of "i was lead to believe that it wouldn't take more than 2 weeks" the guy on the phone yells into the phone "i can promise you that no one told you and exact date of when it was to be complete" Now i am paying for a full size brand new rental violin and my son has been forced to play a busted up used 3/4 violin with no bow as they didnt check to see that all the parts were in the case. And they are saying that it could be upwards of an additional month before its done. No someone needs to explain what is going on. I had planned on getting my older son his guitar there, and a drum kit for my youngest, but after this there is no way. I would rather find a mom and pop shop where customer service is the number one priority. read more

Chantilly Music is wonderful. Everyone I have dealt with is professional, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. My son takes percussion lessons here and has come a long way in just a few months. read more

This is an update to an earlier review from 2012. We are still completely happy with our service and instructions that my family receives from the folks at Chantilly Music. It's great for first-timers and more experience players. My daughter (who's now 16) now plays multiple instruments, thanks to Steve. Bill paying is easy, the prices are fare and the friendships we've made are great. We would highly recommend this establishment to everyone. read more

I have been going to this store for 10+ years. I have had 3 different children take lessons at this store, as well as rented their band instruments from them. They have been FANTASTIC. They have always taken their time to explain to my kids the Do's & Don'ts of their new instruments, and have been very helpful in explaining the instruments to my kids as well as I. (I am not a very musical person, so it was very refreshing to have something explained so thoroughly, instead of being treated as if I am beneath them as I have been treated at other stores). The staff is very knowledgeable, as well as very welcoming. I have and will continue to recommend this store to my friends and family! read more

I've been taking lessons there for over a year and they have been nothing but nice. If have to miss consecutive lessons due to person issues, they don't panic like other places have. They are very empathetic and understanding. I've had two teachers there and they both really listened to the things I wanted to do and they made learning a new instrument absolutely amazing. I'm so shocked to see such negative reviews because they are so genuine and kind. They all seem really passionate about their music. My mother and I have nothing but nice things to say about the employees there. read more
