Great spot to throw some clay! We reserved some open wheel time and ended up extending into another session since we were having so much fun. The atmosphere is awesome! The equipment is awesome! The space it awesome! The staff is awesome! We had everything we needed to make anything we wanted on the wheels. One issue was that the used clay wasn't awesome. We had a lot of sand and some sponge pieces in our used clay, multiple bags had issues. Besides that everything they provide for the open wheel time, was more than enough. The entire session was such a good time! The staff and other customers all interacted and were so inviting and friendly and welcoming us to our first session here. I WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE ZERO STARS IF I COULD. -staff is so unbelievable mean and unhelpful -manager is argumentative and VERY RUDE!!! -WORST customer service I have ever experienced -mean girl vibes. -careless staff -overpriced for the WORST art experience I've ever had. DO NOT GO HERE. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND ANY OTHER PLACE TO GO. Art is a creative hobby and supposed to be a fun, stress-free experience. However this establishment is rigid and gives off mean girl vibes. The worst vibe, most uncomfortable experience. If you want to waste your money, go to this place. I asked one girl who was wearing all black a very basic question and she replied "I actually know nothing about pottery" AVOID AT ALL COSTS. in response to the comment from the business manager. To start, we showed up very positive and we're really excited about our time at the mudd house. You are misinformed massively by your staff. I don't see how we were rude in any way. We were completely bullied by your staff. I had finished a piece that was sitting in the open for 30 minutes and until we were done cleaning and time was up, did someone walk over and ask me "is it hollow or solid" and explained that my piece cannot be fired because it will explode. Me not understanding that vague question was blamed on me not taking a instructional class first, and me not knowing how clay works... In fact I have taken an instructional/guided wheel class at the mudd house but was never told those specifics. When asking the girls how I can fix my piece that apparently wasn't able to go in the kiln...I was told I need to take some of the clay off. You would think someone with experience and good customer service would be want to step in and help a paying customer, so they leave with at least a basic bowl and can come back to see the final product. I understand the time we booked didn't come with any instruction, but since the staff would be trimming the piece anyway, what difference would it make to help a paying customer fix their piece so they can feel like they didn't completely waste their time and money. We had a bad experience 2 years ago and came back with a positive attitude. We are paying customers that arrived 15 minutes late, with only 2 other people in the studio doing a private lesson, what difference does it truly make? The time we booked was unguided wheel time, with not one other person in the same "class" as us, what harm was it doing to be 15 minutes late? We called in to let you know we are still coming and we were not asking for any extra time. We accepted the fact we were late. There was no one waiting for us, we were late but that only took time out of our session. How do you so confidently defend your staff when you clearly are getting a biased perspective? Your business is going to fail with this type of customer service. There are MANY places in San Diego people can go to and have a much better experience. ALSO!!! you think my purpose for booking this wheel time was to harass your staff? Please. I wanted to come in and have a fun experience. You are SOOO wrong to think we booked this time, and would pay money JUST to harass your staff ( which we didn't even do in the first place). I am infact a customer of yours, I just didn't want to use my name while posting on such a public platform. I mean you clearly remember who I am so I don't get how you can say I am not a real customer. The fact that the only legs you have to stand on is we booked an uninstructed class is pretty sad. I asked for a tiny piece of guidance on how I can make my bowl ready to go in the kiln, I wouldn't even call it instruction. People who care about their customers and have good customer service usually don't have a hard time doing that... The amount of bookings you have speak loudly. Almost every slot is available in every class... good luck!! read more

The idea and concept was great, the staff were great, but there were eight of us for a birthday and we got an hour and a half. The first 15 minutes were the instructor teaching / giving a demo and the last 15 minutes were us having to clean up. I gave us 1 hour to try to make a piece or two. It was rushed, it wasn't relaxing it was stressful just the opposite of what I wanted. Art should allow sometime for creativity and calmness. Not to mention one hour for $100 is way too much money each session should be a minimum of 2 hours and for that amount of money customers should not have to clean up, isn't that what staff is for? Oh yeah not to mention that an apron which should be a no-brainer to be included in your hundred dollar payment considering you're throwing Clay on a wheel was extra $5. Way too much money for what you get. Unfortunately won't come back! read more

Here you will find people that will fill your heart with joy and laughter and you will also learn a new skill. The Mudd House is a beautiful studio for beginners and seasoned ceramicists alike. Private lessons, group workshops, and wheel time are readily available and easily accessible. The most incredible part of this studio is the staff. The instructors are always kind and supportive in your artistic endeavors. My sister walked in for the first time wanting to throw a notoriously difficult piece (a chip and dip bowl), and was met with loving encouragement from everyone there. They foster a beautiful sense of community that's unlike anywhere I've seen. if i could give this place 10 stars i would! such a wonderful, kind, attentive, funny, and informative staff. everyone that i have met at the mudd house has been so creative, passionate, and inspiring. the owner is one of a kind and a genuinely fantastic person. i am not a natural potter by any means but when i go to mudd i feel free to try and fail, this has been an artistic and educational experience teaching me how to let go of perfection, making mistakes but to be okay with that, and allow myself to be messy. i have made some incredible friends and reasonably okay art, but i keep improving in this safe, loving environment. i could not recommend this more, either for a private or group lesson, uninstructed experimental play time, or a membership!
