Visited Flower Field on 3/30/14, Charity Wings Art Center had a booth at the event. They setup a…read moreL-shape table and a few staffs standing there teaching the visitors how to make flower with color fabrics. At first, I was standing on the side watching them. It looked very interesting so I decided to sit down and had some fun! One of the staffs, she already started teaching a younger girl (about 12-14 years old) and I sat right next to her . I felt being discriminated by the staff's attitude towards me. I wasn't sure if it was because the younger girl's age or because her parents were with her. For example, the staff would give her very detail instruction and even demonstrated how to do it. When it was my turn, she wasn't really put in effort to teach me. It was my first time learning how to do this too!! When I asked her questions, her reply was, "you can do whatever & be creative....."?? Huh? At least show me how to do it first , once I know it, I can be more creative later. When the younger girl and her parents were ready to leave, she told them about the company and give them a company brochure. I thought now she would have more time to focus on me. I was wrong... she started chatting with another staff about taking lunch break?? I was struggling how to make the fabrics look like "flower"!! I asked her, "I am having hard time making a flower shape???" She said to me, "You will get there eventually.....". Really??? If that is the way she is teaching the class, I will never recommend anyone to go there. When I stood up and ready to leave, she didn't talk about anything about the company or even gave me a brochure. I was very disappointed how different she treated me. I regret that I didn't ask for her name because I think it is important for the business owner, Elena Lai Etcheverty, to know about how her staff treat people differently. All her staffs represent the first impression of the company.

Got to make a mini hat with Charity Wings at their table setup at the Del Mar Fair in 2016 (Alice…read morein Wonderland theme. The table was part of the Mad Hatter Tea Party). It is amazing what this organization has pulled together while being run primarily by volunteers. I have since visited their space in San Marcos and it is fabulous. It is very well organized and has just about any craft you can think of. You can pay a membership monthly rate or as a visitor by the hour. They have fantastic classes and also do special workshops. Not to mention they have discounts for students. I hope I get to try the silversmith class and pottery class sometime soon!
