The breakfast is excellent, try the eggs royale! The restaurant, The Terrace Brasserie is a beautiful intimate restaurant. Our meal was delicious and the service is excellent, although per person it's about £45 a head for 3 courses and a drink. They do take Taste Card though and you can use hand picked hotel points to get a free meal! The reason I haven't given 5 stars is the price of the drinks, a Hendricks gin and tonic is £9.50!

The place is rambling, with numerous hallways, sloping floors, and one very old wooden staircase, all of which is part of the charm of places lie this for me. Some rooms have a lot of old character, although others do not. The lobby area was modernised and is now somewhat bland, but it is still nice, attractive, and comfortable. The rooms were comfortable and our room still had some old exposed beams, but otherwise was modernised, mostly in a somewhat bland style, but still nice and it was pretty large with a good bathroom and fixtures. Staff were nice, a glass of port was provided on checking in. Breakfast was in the lovely dining hall and including continental buffet plus a very good cooked breakfast/full English. The location is excellent, in the heart of the old town a short walk from everything, but on a quiet street. We had a nice view onto characterful old Fish Street from our room.

Parsnip and chestnut soup was divine (5). The Christmans pudding tart was also excellent and a slightly different take on the usual Christmas pudding. We had outstanding local cask ales in excellent condition, as well as cocktails.

I would stop by Shrewsbury just to eat here again. What gorgeous food and drink!…read more This is the only place in the Midlands that I've had such a stunning and authentic martini to date. That is a major credit to the bar and staff here, as finding a good martini is something I am constantly attempting but also being continually disappointed by, especially in this region of the UK. My party and I came here for dinner in the Christmas season while in Shrewsbury. This was one of my favorite dinners in the whole of the Midlands, if not the supreme winner overall. Though on the pricier side, everything to the last detail was expertly crafted and delicious. Also, the service was lovely and inside the restaurant comfortable and festive- we enjoyed sitting next to a wood fire! It stayed relatively quiet for the duration of our meal as well, which was nice. We had three different entrees: I enjoyed the sirloin of steak and the other members of my party had the duck breast and the lamb. I tried their dishes and every single thing was marvelous. Unfortunately, we didn't get too many photos as we were all busy chowing down! My steak was cooked perfectly, tender, and flavorful. Each accompaniment also boasted such lovely qualities. For dessert I enjoyed the bread pudding which was absolutely delectable. If in the area you simply must try this lovely establishment for an exquisite dinner.

Especially the big pool which you can use as a member is very nice and clean. The fitness facilities can be quite full - but as everywhere it depends on the time you go. The spinning courses are my personal tip... Jump on a bike and enjoy a cool workout in a dark music filled disco room. Spa treatments can be booked for an extra fee and are wonderful. The staff in all departments is very friendly. My only minus point is the high member fee of ca. £45 per month. Other than that a great place to go and a guaranteed sporty time!

First the positives:…read more The staff are very helpful, friendly, and fantastic. It is set in lovely location. It is very quiet. The dining room, although small, is a good low lit environment. The room I had was a good size, as was the bathroom. Good selection of toiletries. The food for dinner had a good selection, and breakfast too. The negatives: The water in both the sink and the bath (whilst having a shower) did not go down the plughole very fast Making it difficult to cleans one's teeth, and have a shower. I mentioned this to reception the next morning, and they said they would get maintenance to have a look. On my return in the evening it had not been resolved. Reception then tried to find me another room. There were none available. There would be a room available the next day, which I accepted. She also offered me a free bottle of wine to compensate for the the inconvenience. I declined as I didn't want to be seen as person moaning to get something back. Nevertheless, I think it was a generous offer. (SEE FURTHER RELATING TO THIS BELOW.) The TV is too small for the room. I struggled to get a signal on my mobile telephone, and it cut out several times. I did access the WiFi, and didn't have too many problems, I had to log back on a couple of times. No ironing board and iron in the room. I had to request one, and the first iron brought was black with caked on burnt material. They took that one back and said she hoped that one was Ok as there wasn't another on the shelf. Is there really only two irons for the whole hotel? No safe in the room. Sometimes a must for me if I have my work laptop. However, I had left it securely locked away at my office. The shower head is fixed and water went everywhere when I turned on, awaiting for warm water. The latter seemed difficult control, and was sometimes far too hot. I asked what wines they sold by the glass, I asked for white, I was told there was only one, and that was Sauvignon Blanc. This is extremely strange for any hotel, let alone a bar that only servers one white wine by the glass. They have three reds by the glass. Apparently they are trying to run down stocks before changing over to new list of wines. A good idea would be to reduce those wines by the bottle; I'm sure they would still make a profit. The menu was the same on Wednesday evening as the one on Monday. I asked how often it was changed I was told every NINE (9) months!! Another said that it was seasonal, the two answers didn't add up. Extra Notes. When I was transferred to another room, I found waiting for me a bowl of fruit, a small box of chocolates, and a bathrobe and slippers. I think that is exceptional service to say sorry. The room also had a expresso coffee making machine, which I sampled and really enjoyed. The new room was situated on the ground floor, and overlooked the balancing pond. Very idyllic. That all adds up to a big thank you. A three course meal is £26.95, but there are supplements. For example, I had a starter and a main which would be £22.95, but I had the 10oz ribeye steak, which had a £6 supplement. It was succulent and delicious. A pint of John Smith's is £3.60, and a large glass of Shiraz was £6.70. I discovered another lounge area just as I was leaving. All in all, would I return? The answer is: yes.

Food Standards Agency Rating: 5/5…read more A new visit due to attending a retirement do in the village and the "retiree" staying at this hotel. I've moved from 2 stars to 4 stars because: Shower pressure was perfect, and controllable heat; so no longer a cold shower. They accommodated the fact that I need breakfast at 07:00 (breakfast is normally served from 07:30). It was delivered to my room, nice and hot, with all that was needed. Plus orange juice and a pot of tea. The breakfast was miles better than last time. The rooms are still a bit dated, but little can be done. Staff very helpful and friendly as before. I had to request an iron and ironing board, but it was delivered in a timely manner. Much better to have these in the room. No matter where I stay, due a theft at a London hotel from the room, I still prefer a safe for the laptops. None available here. If I need to be in Shifnal again, then I'll consider staying again. ---------------------- Yes it is in a lovely location, and the staff are all nice and pleasant, and willing to help. They are let down by the facilities (Spa was out of action, and I didn't get to the gym, so excluded from the review). The evening meal was a bit bizarre. Mini Gammon Joint, Egg & Chips (£13.95). The ham was a scraggy piece, and very stringy. The chips had an odd flavour as if cooked in old oil. Also on the plate, what seemed like a whole packet of vine tomatoes (8 in all); I didn't eat. Two eggs which were OK, and dry slice of pineapple (not out of a tin). The next day the shower was barely warm, and sometimes cold. I just couldn't get the adjustments to heat up. I reported this as I left for the day and was told the maintenance engineer would have a look. Upon my return I was told it was sorted. I tested it with my hands, and it was certainly hotter than in the morning. Although I had been told it may also have been cold due to other residents showering at the same time. Breakfast I had scramble egg, smoked salmon on a bagel. A £2 supplement was charged. There was little they could do wrong with the salmon and the bagel. However, the scramble eggs were so overcooked and dry; hard to really describe further. I didn't stay in to eat the second night. Morning shower again. It was worse than the morning before. I was shivering, but I had to have a wash. Breakfast. This time I ordered bacon, sausage, fried egg, hash brown and beans. The bacon wasn't so much crispy but completely dehydrated, and the fat on it was yellow. I've only ever seen that on bacon past its best. I didn't eat it. The egg was slightly undercooked, but the sausages, hash brown, and beans were OK. The pot of tea was good. I pointed out the bacon to waitress, and even she agreed that she wouldn't eat it. She took it back to chef, but I said I didn't want anything back. I mentioned the shower again on checking out, and was told that some of the showers are to be replaced; personally I don't think that that is the issue. I also didn't like the idea of seeing cigarettes (old ones) butts greeting me at the bottom of the steps leading to the reception entrance. New ones I could understand, but it didn't look good. I'm sorry for all the staff having to work with the tools of the hotel. The owners need to provide a bit more investment in getting a better boiler system. I can live with the poor décor of the rooms, and the old suites, and even with smell of the hall carpets and wooden panelling. However, when away from home there are certain things like basic necessities. Hot water for the shower being one of them. The wi-fi wasn't the fastest, but it was free. I won't be letting my company's travel agent book me in there again.

We couldnt fault the place on our wedding day, the food and the service were all spot on and the honeymoon suite is devine with a massive four poster bed and views across the rolling countryside. Jurys Inn is a wonderful Central Budget Hotel…read more I managed to get a good deal on a couple of nights over this easter and it was great having a hotel with such a central position in the city. Just by the canal and an abundance of restaurant. All main attractions in the city less than ten mins walk away. It actually took ages to find a decent place at the right price based on previous reviews. Everyone commented on the noise from party goers everywhere - and in particular with Jurys Inn - the noise from the maids lift. But we plumped for Jurys Inn because they had the B&B deals and the company has a good rep. We simply requested a room away from the lift. As it was on the 11th floor we had two peaceful nights sleep in the most AMAZING bed ever. It was so huge I didn't even notice the Mrs was in the bed next to me when I woke up. The rooms are spacious and so so clean. There's no faffing in the room and no mini fridge (ie temptation) which is perfect for us. The whole hotel was clean and bright and pretty. Good security at night and efficient service throughout. Negatives -Awkward moment when checking in - the guy behind the counter was a tad baffled about two women sharing a double room, bless. -Annoying heating/air conditioning in room. It's just stupid, but if you admit defeat and call reception they can adjust it from there. -Breakfast. Poor lay out, naff choice for veggies. -Paid Wifi Despite the not so goods - for the price you can't get better for Bham City Centre. I would recommend it for couples on a city break of those who are looking for a decent place to rest and refuel.

The room for the wedding reception was elegant and the catering simple but classy. All the staff at the bar, and the serving staff were really friendly and polite. I have to say it probably brings out the best in them when you are accompanied by a 5 day old baby though!! One gripe - the toilet facilities. You would think that a complex of this sort would have baby changing facilities - but there were none in the one I used and none immediately apparent (or signposted). There are not many facilities for kids at all in fact - a small park area at the front - but nothing more. They used to have a soft play area which we used alot - but they got rid of it and built a new conference room - not helpful for me but I am guessing more profitable? We did not stay the night as we only live nearby - but have in the past and I found the rooms to be comfortable and on the larger side. Its not cheap - see website for current prices and availability. What the place has got to offer which is above and beyond your average hotel is the leisure facilities. There is a fantastic gym, sauna, 9 hole golf course and pitch and putt. I am told the driving range range is good and the prices are reasonable - especially if you block book. This is rated a 4 star hotel - and I agree.

I know a few corporate types who stay at Lea Marston when doing business in Birmingham, even though it's outside the city, for the great food and of course, the golf course. Unfortunately, they didn't have our date available, but it was still a pleasant experience. Buuuutttt...we still go to Lea Marston Golf Club every weekend! My husband is a natural at golf, though he hasn't had much experience at it. He persuaded me to brave the British weather once and try it, and it turns out it's a gas! Hubby and stepson have been to the full course, whilst I stick to the driving range. The range is open to all people, regardless of belonging to the club or not. It is a very economical way to practice your swing, with happy hour prices coming in at 40 balls for £1. It's a great way to relieve stress and have fun for a few hours for a fiver! Great for all ages, with very helpful staff.
