New Hall is such a beautiful hotel. It has a moat! A lovely moat filled with lillies.
And it's really old. Hundreds of years old. So you really feel swept away from the modern world.
I didn't have much time to properly explore, as I was just there for a 2 day course with work, and we were kept pretty busy. I just loved being there though, walking through the maze like narrow corridors, taking in the style and history of the place, and the beautiful woodwork. They have a gorgeous cosy little lounge, just off reception, with a coal fire, and it's just the sweetest little place to have a comfy seat and relax.
I did stay for one night, but I wasn't in a standard bedroom (there was a mix up that was totally my fault) so I won't comment - although I will say that I was very comfortable and toasty warm, and slept very well in the comfortable bed.
The best thing was the staff. They were so friendly and helpful, and really bent over backwards to sort things out for me, and acted as though it was no trouble at all. They were so natural and genuine - none of the overly polished and overly corporately trained people that you get some other places - just nice people who want to do their best for you. A gentleman called Tony was particularly lovely, with little touches like remembering my name, calling me by my first name, and also making sure that my dietary requirements were looked after. I felt like an individual, not just yet another customer.
I only had one meal here - a simple lunch of jacket potato, hummous, roasted vegetables and salad - which was just what I wanted actually so I was very happy. My colleagues had dinner there the evening previously, and apparently everyone was pleased with their meal.
i would LOVE to come back here for a weekend break, it seems like an ideal spa setting, and I would feel very well looked after. read more
