A fabulous oldie worldie hotel and spa situated in lovely grounds. It's part of the Best Western chain so I didn't have high hopes, but I was pleasantly surprised (yes I'm a snob!) The long driveway is impressive and passes right by some of the golf course holes so you can cruise on by and watch. The hotel is vast with plenty of function rooms, a bar, and cosy little rooms that are off the main corridors. This hotel was once a private house complete with servants, and you can picture some of the rooms being living areas etc. The grounds are beautiful and there are plenty of photo opportunities if you happen to have your wedding here. I came here to celebrate a wedding anniversary, and we had a private function room booked for about 30 of us. We pre ordered out food and a three course meal with wine on the table was only £20 - awesome! The food was ok - duck terrine to start, roast lamb with Yorkshire pudding and white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake. For some reason the cheesecake wasn't doing it for me, so I asked for the cheeseboard instead - a good move which went down well with a glass of red. Afternoon tea was very poor today. We have had many afternoon teas at Moore hall over the years, spa days and overnight stays. I am sad to say that today was the last time we will be going to Moore hall. I have food allergies, not choices but real medical allergies. My first afternoon tea was handed to me ( I booked about 5 weeks in advance and stated my allergies clearly) it wasn't gluten free. I asked was she sure and she went back to check and apologised for giving me the wrong one. If I had eaten any of it I would have ended up in hospital. One of the sandwiches looked like it had pickle, I asked what was in it, the sandwich was taken away and brought back and told it was fig. I asked for a list of ingredients, the woman told me that I could eat it but I was too nervous to eat something without knowing exactly what was in it. She just wouldn't give me a list of ingredients. In the end the sandwich was just taken off me with nothing to replace it. Not a great start. About an hour in I asked could we have our prosecco....we also waited some time for milk and had to ask for it also. We had no apology for any of this at all. The woman serving us was frosty if I'm honest. I did explain to her that it wasn't just that I didn't like these food items that I had a genuine allergy. We moved into a side room in the bar area and had a bottle of prosecco (£36) we were settled in girls day having a lovely catch up. Barman comes in and says "I'm not going to throw you out, but I need a room for 15 people." It's a public space. We spent a lot of money £120 approx for afternoon tea, evening meal £80 and drinks £100. We will be looking for a new venue for our next get together that will look after us better. Such a shame we've always enjoyed ourselves on previous visits. read more

Wanting a change to the usual works christmas night out, myself and my colleagues decided to book up a spa day to escape for some pampering and relaxation. On driving up the drive to Moor Hall we were all like OMG!! What a beautiful building. Seeped in history, first impressions #YES! We parked up and entered through the main reception for the hotel where we were warmly greeted by a lovely receptionist at the desk. The lobby had a real log fire burning, it was the 17th December and all I wanted to do was stand there and thaw out. Walking along the corridors to the spa lounge we noticed the different rooms all decked out for christmas partys. We came to a large lounge with low sofas and tables again with a roaring log fire. This was where we enjoyed our pre spa pots of tea , coffee and cakes. Once scoffed and refreshed we were shown through to the spa. Once changed and in the pool area which was a nice size, I spotted the steam room and sauna. The jaccuzzi lay at the side of the pool. The overall temperature was cosy as we relaxed for the day making full use of all the facilities. I had a treatment booked at 1.30 and had to go upstairs for that but this was not a problem as we were given robes, towels and slippers. I had a fab 30 minute back massage.... This was my first visit to a spa out of the city and I really enjoyed it and will defo visit again. read more

Parkland surroundings, Ye Olde old bit with lounge and bar area overlooking the gardens and trees in the distance, excellent place to meet up, have a chill, coffee maybe a bite to eat and possibly log on to their free WiFi to do your Qype reviews. . Staff friendly and helpful, the 4 star facilities good and the place caters for day guests and obviously for overnighters too. There is a good leisure club and golf course adjacent (in the grounds really). Excellent. read more

I attended a wedding at this hotel in the Summer and was pleasantly surprised at the room as it was fairly large, good space, nice sized bathroom and large bed. The rooms are quite far away from the restaurants however, and so not good for those who are going to have a fair bit to drink before retiring to the rooms! The catering was good, not the best as it was just a buffet, but still fairly average food. The staff were all friendly and helpful enough, and the bar staff were also very good at thei job and being able to cope with a lot of customers. read more

my husband surprised me with an overnight stay here for my brithday, it is a beautiful hotel set in beautiful grounds, we have previously been for a meal in the restaurant also but this was the first time I had stayed. The bar and restaurant service was impeccable, of a standard second none as was the food and drink, we were never made to feel out of our league for a second which is fantastic as somewhere like this feels as if it is for other people who can afford to indulge in such a lifestyle much more often than once in a blue moon for a special treat! The breakfast selection and service again was excellent and frankly I was ready to settle in for another night. There are also day spa facilities which I am looking forward to experiencing on a girly weekend at some point. x read more

Again we ventured far beyond our normal comfort blanket of the inner ring road to the dizzy distances of Sutton Coldfield, to a Best Western hotel for dinner. I know, right! Having plucked up the courage and boarded our public transport for Sutton, and our eventual destination of Moor Hall Hotel & Spa, we were given some mixed feedback from some of our friends and followers on Twitter. It appears to be a venue that some have loved and some have hated in the past. Moor Hall is a 4 star Best Western Premier property. On the approach I did wonder about the route our local friends took us. After a few suburban roads, a short-cut down a cul-de-sac, and a wander past the golf club we came across what is in fact a rather splendid looking country house dating from 1905 (the current version, the earliest records show a Moor Hall on the site in the 15th century). We were dining with friends for a long overdue catch up and decided to make the most of the weather and opt for the more informal dining option on the terrace, with lovely views of the golf course. There are several restaurants in the hotel with different menus, so do check out the website to understand what they offer. For starters we tried the Ham hock terrine with crispy smoked Brie & apple, and the Potted crab with dill butter and cider bread. The ham hock was prettily presented with three generous slices of ham sandwiching two crispy melt-in-the-middle breaded balls of smoked brie accompanied by apple puree, slithers of fresh apple and pea shoots. A combination that worked really well. We also tried the potted crab, which was cool and tasty and served with crisp bread. We are not massive fans of theatrical dining options, I've complained many times about food served on roofing products and chopping boards. This time however, after a tip off from Birmingham dining twiteratti @richardpope (you probably know him, everyone does), we opted for main courses served on sizzling slabs of hot volcanic rock. The premise of the "Hot Rocks Menu" is that the food is brought to you uncooked, alongside an extremely hot rock, and that you cook it yourself on the rock. The best steak I ever had was in a tiny Portuguese village on a hot rock, so I had high expectations. We ordered a variety of main courses, including fillet of local beef, tuna steak, and halloumi with sweet pepper skewers. The beef fillet was juicy, and the experience of cooking it just-so was as delightful as I found it in Moncarapacho. The beef was served with Portobello mushrooms, beautiful heritage tomatoes, and crisp onion rings. We also had hand-cut chips which were served perfectly Armadillo - soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, Armadillo! All of the hot rock dishes come with a garden side salad and a choice of new potatoes, hand cut chips or sauteed potatoes with shallots and bacon. All were good. The tuna steak and the halloumi mains went down a treat too. In fact we couldn't fault the food. We rounded off the meal with a tasty Amaretto torte with coke sorbet. I did have my doubts about how well this would be executed but I can say the warm and tasty tart was well received with a crisp top layer and moist succulent middle which went well with the coke sorbet. (I apologise for the poor quality photos but it was getting dark outside by this point of the night). The Hot Rocks menu is available lunchtimes and evenings, 7 days a week on the terrace. Price depends on the choice of main but a single course starts at £16 and goes up to £30 for 3 courses if you choose the fillet. Given the mixed feedback we've had from friends on eating in the main restaurants, we'll have to go back and try them soon... read more

So my wife booked the Jacuzzi room for my birthday on the hottest August day in 17 years. She was a bit sceptical at first due to hotels only starting to open up after the covid 19 lockdown. There were many things wrong with this hotel, The room had no air conditioning whatsoever so we literally had no sleep, the fridge was making a loud noise so we had to switch that off, some of the jets on the Jacuzzi were not working even though it was on max, the buffet breakfast was really bad, we waited half an hour for an omelette, where we had to get up several times to ask what's taking so long. And the selection was very poor with not even the basic ketchup available. The bathroom radiator does not work as it's linked with the boiler and that was switched off, so don't bother trying to dry any towels or swimwear on that. My point is if I'm paying for a premium room, I expect to get that experience. If you cant provide what you advertise then reflect that in the price. We mentioned this at checkout and only received an email apology, which is just not good enough. The only positive thing is that all the staff were friendly, but again, that alone is not sufficient. Most of the good reviews are from people using the day spa facilities and afternoon tea. I can say for sure that this was my first and last time at this place. read more

Located in one of the wealthiest areas of Birmingham, Moor Hall is a country style hotel, set in lush parkland. The drive through the tree lined avenue to approach the hotel really sets the scene. Enjoy a relaxing Spa break here or just a romantic dinner for two. This place oozes class without trying too hard. Consider spending New Years Eve here. Obviously none of the usual queing to get in, queing for a drink, queing for the toilet applies... just a fantastic night all round. read more

Backstory, I live in CA, my parents are in Sutton. My dad turned 70 today and I was so sad I couldn't be there to celebrate with them. I called Moor Hall as they had a lunch planned in the Country Kitchen. I spoke with the front desk and explained I would like to cover the cost of their lunch. They transferred me to the country kitchen to work out costs and back to Kristie on the front desk. I again explained my plan of paying for their lunch bill and covering tips and we worked out the amount and I paid. I asked how they handle letting my parents know, as this was a surprise and she said she had it all handled. Had written on the booking sheet, and asked if I would like the waiter to announce to them their meal was covered as a gift when they arrived. Great. All going to plan. My credit card was charged. I'm super excited, to finally pull off a surprise! So imagine my shock when i call my parents this morning and had no mention of it. In fact my parents had to pay again for their meal. So now I'm making more calls from the states because apparently the gal I spoke with only works part time, and there are no managers around to help. Way to ruin a surprise Moor Hall. a large hotel near sutton coldfield,there is also a golf course.really nice building with lovely decor,the restaurant is nice with panelled walls.i went here for a christmas works do and really enjoyed it.the food and service was excellent,especially if you are a fussy eater.there is also a very well equipped gym and spa offering the latest beauty treatments. read more

My sister, mother and I have just returned from a lovely stay at this hotel. We were there last year for a wedding and decided to spend another weekend to enjoy the hotel as we didn't have much time to enjoy it before. The weather was warm and sunny so we were able to make full use of the magnificent grounds, there are plenty of walks and interesting things to see including walled gardens, a nice duck pond , etc. The first room we were given faced a wall and was quite dark and gloomy so we got it changed to a much nicer one overlooking the courtyard, not sure why they would allocate the worst rooms first. We ate dinner at the terrace room, the food was lovely and the waiters were very friendly and attentive as were all the staff, breakfast which was included in the price was very good too. The pool area was an added bonus, the water was nice and warm and we didn't find it too busy. I would highly recommend this hotel, although there was a wedding taking place the hotel never seemed busy or noisy and we all came home fully relaxed! read more
