I booked myself in to have the Java body wrap which provides firming and slimming results. When I got there, they measured my body taking note of my current body size. Then I had to put on some very attractive paper pants before the lady started to wrap me up using lots of bandages that had been soaked in what can only be described as a clay like substance. They were left on for around 60 minutes whilst I was left to lay on the bed and relax. Afterwards I was measured again and I had lost a combined total of 5 inches from different parts of my body. The spa itself has been refurbished, and there are now some amazing new treatments rooms (including a double room for couples/friends). This is a dry spa so there are no wet rooms/sauna etc. It is a restful, peaceful place to visit, and has a lovely team there. After receiving a voucher from some very lovely friends for At One Day Spa, I knew it was time for me to go and give it a try! I have actually been to the spa before... Many years ago they had an open day and were offering mini manicures and massages as a promotion, but this was my first visit to get some real pampering. I've been having back pain for a while, so knew that a full body massage would be a great choice to loosen me up and make me feel a bit more mobile. I popped my head in and booked with the lovely ladies at the desk about a week before (after I had joined their mailing list for a further £5 off). They were very helpful and guided me through the various massages they offer in the Spa to aid me in making my choice. I opted for a full body "signature massage" which is an hours treatment and involves aromatherapy oils. As I had a voucher (but not on me), I was advised to ring them before the treatment to give them the voucher code over the phone so they could take it off the price. Before the treatment I received a couple of text messages to remind me of my appointment (very handy, as if you cancel less than 24 hours beforehand you incur some of the cost). After work on a Wednesday I pottered on down to the spa (located in Great Western Arcade) to get my pamper on. I was greeted at the door and asked to fill out a health form in their upstairs treatment reception. This had a major overhaul in November 2014 and now looks fab! Bright, airy and spotless; it's a great place to get your chill on! After the necessaries had been completed and logged, I was shown to a lovely, well kitted out treatment room to prepare for my massage. Once I was ready, the masseuse came in and got started (after enquiring if I was comfortable and if I needed anything). I experienced a full hour of total relaxation. I opted for quite strong pressure (to get those knots out of my shoulders and back) and I was asked all the way through the treatment if the pressure was OK and if everything was dandy. About halfway through the treatment I was a little cold (I was advised that the body temperature drops considerably when you're lying down) and was offered a lovely snuggly blanket on top of the towels to keep me warm. When the hour was up, I was given all the time I needed to get ready to leave. On exiting the spa, I was offered a glass of water to rehydrate before settling up and leaving. The treatment is £55 (but, as previously mentioned you can get £5 off with the mailing list and the spa offers 10% off your first treatment with check in). I will definitely be back. I have woken up today a little achey after all the stretching and kneading, but my lower back feels loads better and I felt lovely and relaxed when I left. This place might not be the cheapest spa, but it's definitely one of the best. If you want to give yourself a treat, I can recommend a trip to the At One Day Spa for a pampering session. It appears small, but don't let that fool you on the variety of treatments available or the quality of the service one receives in here. They offer everything from luxury spa treatments, waxing, spray tanning, men's treatments, Lash extensions & brow tints, to manicures and pedicures, and wedding packages for occasions such as Hen parties. A good variety of treatments is available, they even sell nail polish! And as an added bonus, students receive an extra 10% discount on beauty treatments, with a valid NUS card, if you visit between 10am-4pm every Tuesday and Wednesday. With some of the deep tissue massages they do ask a few medical questions on the questionnaire, but it's nothing to worry about, just part of a very good service. The massage itself takes place in what I can only describe as a small beautiful room, with shower and bed, as if it's in the middle of a hot tropical country! I came to At One with a discount voucher which I put towards an underarm wax before going on holiday, but decided to go for the Indian head massage too. I was just on time and very warmly welcomed, offered tea and biscuits in the cute lounge as I filled in my first visit form. My therapist was very friendly and skilful. She took me to my treatment room and did the waxing first to get it out of the way (ouch) before the Indian head massage. I am a pretty tense person so she worked on the knots in my muscles and explained where the problems were. Being a full-time mum to an energetic 2 year old, as well as full-time manager of a busy cafe and full- (or maybe part-, poor hubby!) time wife, my back gets a beating. Plush purple sofas, relaxing music, thoughtful decor and pleasant quotes painted on canvasses on the walls - there's no chance of you not slipping into spa-land and becoming AtOne with your experience. The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable, eager to please and friendly. They all stop to say hello and see if you need anything. You can relax on the sofas reading useful AND interesting literature on everything from skin care to body conditioning to reviews from past customers - take your pick! You are offered coffee, tea or water, and are allowed to start de stressing and relaxing immediately. The treatment rooms are spacious and just the right temperature - I always fear being cold when laying exposed on a massage bed. The massage was personal and, most importantly, exceptionally helpful. I honestly felt like the pain was made 60% better after just one visit, and you are given after-care advice which really works. The prices are totally reasonable and there are some INCREDIBLE offers - seasonal discounts and packages which are well-thought out, amazing money-savers, and basically have to be taken advantage of otherwise we are all missing out! I also love a place where you can go on their website and get whatever info you need. AtOne's website is just as I like - informative, entertaining, and with everything you ever needed to know, or didn't know you needed to know, written out for your own perusal. I have no doubt that I am lucky to have found this place, and perhaps am digging my own hole by singing its praises so much- one day I will try to book and won't be able to get an appointment for weeks! But AtOne Day Spa deserves as many accolades as it can get, as the staff work really hard at making it the best at what it is, and it is. You know you are in good hands as soon as you walk through the doors, and once you're inside, you are already thinking of when you can book your next treatment. With the warm welcome to the purple sofas in the comfortable lounge, I knew I was in for a treat. This place came recommended to me via Yelp and seeing as they had a half price off-peak offer, and my regular place is closed for refurbishment, it seems like a good idea. The boring medical forms that one has to fill in when going to a new place didn't seem as boring sitting on a comfy sofa being offered drinks. Before I know it I'm moved swiftly into my treatment room where I'd hope Chloe would massage away a pain in my neck that keeps re-occuring. On top of that, she politely gave me an assessment and suggested treatment. I think a monthly massage is a little extravagant but I take advantage of the offer to book one more before I go on holiday - as per my tradition - in a couple of weeks and will see how it goes after that.
