I found The Montrose Studios randomly on social media and decided to give them a try this holiday season after completely missing out on portraits last Christmas. I booked a 30-minute session in October and used a social media promo code for a $20 discount (total cost for our session was $230 after the promo was applied). Booking a session was simple with their online booking portal where you can see all available time slots and dates. Maria was very responsive via text and so fun to work with. My family arrived much earlier than our scheduled session, but Maria didn't hesitate or make us wait, she started taking our photos as soon as we arrived; therefore, we were fortunate enough to get a little more time than a strict 30-minute session which I thought was really nice of her. I even said we could wait but she kindly insisted we could come on in! The studio was comprised of several backdrops and set-ups. I felt like I was in a winter wonderland (she had a snow machine too)! The studio is a bit overwhelming at first but she does know what she's doing lol. Maria has soooo many props in the studio and knew how to incorporate them in the photos artistically (it doesn't look cheesy or too busy), she posed us well, and was very patient and engaging with my 19 month old son. Her energy and friendly personality made the whole experience really pleasant for our first time ever taking studio portraits. The turnaround was about 1.5-2 weeks and our photos came out pretty nicely. Maria captured our best angles and some great candid moments which I will cherish forever. I also really liked that she provided both the raw unedited photos as well as edited photos (especially for those who like to dabble in photography and post-processing, having the raw images was really great and also one of the reasons why we booked her). Some of the edited pictures could have had a little better composition (for example, there was a bit of the tinsel randomly hanging on one side from the swing prop in our fireplace photos, and a white rug that was kind of bunched on top of some props in some of the edited photos), but if you're not specifically looking for them, then I'd say they blend in nicely to the final photo. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars, was that after we booked our session in October (thinking "the early bird catches the worm,") I did notice that on their social media page, they promoted an even steeper discount a month later, (so I felt like I had booked a little 'too early,' and missed out on an even better deal - who doesn't like saving money)? However, last year I completely missed the window for booking- so it was kind of a gamble as to when would be "the best" time to book. The other thing was that following our photoshoot, their social media account kept posting about "finalized" or "new" holiday set-ups which made me feel like we missed out on having an opportunity to have photos in front of those new set-ups or that the ones we took pictures in front of weren't finalized yet (but they did not look unfinished whatsoever). Other than that, I'm MORE than extremely pleased with our photos and Maria has definitely made it incredibly difficult for us to choose just one (or two) photos for our holiday card this year! I love that their studio had so many set-ups and that we didn't have to take an overly sepia toned photo outdoors during golden hour (again and again like every other family's Christmas card lol). As a new mom, I'm often on the other side of the camera, so I was really grateful to have had a reasonably priced portrait session with my son and husband for "proof of mom" photos. :) Maria's editing is bright and the photos we received really captured our family beautifully, and most importantly, our son's personality so well. Next year we hope to bring our dog since their studio is pet friendly (which is a huge plus). We didn't bring him in this year bc we thought it might be a bit chaotic tbh with the toddler and dog (iykyk)... I debated writing this review bc I wanted to keep this studio 'my little secret,' but it's truly no secret that Maria's work really great! I definitely recommend The Montrose Studios and we will be reaching out to Maria again to capture more milestones and special moments for us! We just might book a little later for the discounts ;). No words can truly articulate enough how unprofessional, poor quality and completely disastrous of an enterprise (if you can even call it that) this entity is. If you sign up with them BE WARNED: - They may commission an external individual to take your photos who may not be part of their core team without ANY notice to you thereby completing a session for you under unethical, false pretenses. 0% integrity. Our commissioned individual goes by the name of Ana. - Your photos may be severely delayed at which point they are unable to even keep track of where your photos are and then ultimately offer you a "free do-over session" to compensate having NO regard to the time and coordination it took you to secure the original session. - They will promise you a date on when you will get your photos and then FAIL to meet their own designated deadline. - They will string you along until ultimately they punt the contact information of the photographer for you to fend for your own photos directly. All around, the most appalling unprofessional service I've received in all my years of working with an eclectic array of vendors. I fully endorse and advocate supporting small businesses, but please SAVE your money, time, and energy elsewhere. This business DOES NOT deserve your money, time, or investment. read more

Okay, I'll start with the positive. They have a great instagram page online and offer not just the photo rental studio services, but photo editing (which is why it's a one star). The rooms look really cute. Now for my issue: They don't provide the services you pay for, period. I paid a large amount of money to have photos edited. After a lot of screw ups, I thought I finally got the situation resolved as my order was under a misspelled email address. Ok, I can see that happening. Then nothing. I contacted again...nothing. At first I would get friendly replies and responses, but by the end, they would pretend no one contacted me via Instagram. I don't think handling business via instagram is professional, but as my email never appeared on their radar, that's how we communicated and by phone. I called and would be told they were done, and they were never done. Several months of this went by until I told them...hey I want them done this weekend. I get a link with the EXACT SAME PHOTOS I sent for corrections. They were edited. No they're not. At that point, they stopped communicating with me altogether and claimed they never used Instagram to communicate...so I guess a ghost did or a magic elf, because someone did. There was always an excuse. Unfortunately, I had to escalate this to the BBB and to my bank, because I had to get my money back as no services were provided. I believe waiting over six months is extremely tolerant, especially after being told they can get it done in 24-48 hours and were paid. My advice to them would be to drop the editing services altogether from their website, as they can't fulfill them in a timely manner and just focus on the photo studio rental aspect. They'll have happier customers and better reviews in the end. read more

She makes sure everyone on her team gives the same kind of service. The setups are always so fun, festive and interactive - perfect for kids. As a mom, I'm always the one behind the camera so I love that they have great themes year round and affordable mini sessions that give me a chance to actually get some pictures with my kids. If I could add more than 5 stars I would! We have taken photos with The Montrose Studios & Maria for years now! From their first location to their newest one, we have loved our experience AND photos taken! We loved our photos so much, we have booked her for our personal events like our baby shower & baby's 1st birthday! The turnaround for photos is always so quick & we have printed out every album sent. The setups are so amazing and I LOVE how she supports other small businesses to show off their work. She really supports the community & has open houses which not a lot of studios do. She's super professional & is in constant communication throughout the whole process! I also love that's she's bilingual so our family feels more comfortable when taking photos. I personally feel like it's hard nowadays to find natural looking photography. Some photos are too washed out or too dark or too bright but hers are so colorful and vibrant! The editing is amazing! We can't wait to go back for the holidays to capture more memories! One of the best studio rentals in town and they got good deals on occasions . We booked a session for Valentine's Day and the photographers were really patient and extended our session as I got a baby . Also they provided me the preview of their work after a couple of days and we are really impressed for what we got vs what we paid. Not to forget they keep updating their backdrops frequently for a fresh look. Also they provide outdoor photography. And if you are interested in renting the whole studio they would be providing the lights for ur photographer. read more

Let me say first that they are incredibly nice and genuinely seem like they want you to have the best experience! They also send you a TON of pictures from your session included in the price. Photographers normally charge for the actual photography and also for each picture you choose. However, as with everything else, you get what you pay for. I knew they wouldn't be stunning photos, but I was okay with that because of the price. After an hour of photography, we ended up with close to 100 photos that they sent to us, but only 4 that we actually liked and used. So many were out of focus and blurry or were just really awkward poses that didn't look good. So, they're a great choice if you're looking for something affordable and fun and not expecting too much from the finished product. read more

I had such high hopes for this place. I was told something different on the phone and in person, so I have been back and forth with the studio owner. I have never been so disappointed with a company before. I was sent an email with digital prints, and they weren't all edited. You can see the screen on the side and all the dirt on the floors. I should have known better when the photographer was running late, and someone stepped in till she got there -- horrible communication. I called, sent emails, and Instagram seems to be the only way I can communicate with her. read more

I will start with positive note place is cute different photo backgrounds , there were 3 photographers so we were excited paid the indoor/outdoor package. At first I would get friendly replies, answered emails, txt and phone calls. So I felt comfortable and paid them in full before our session (Big Mistake). Two weeks past I didn't contact them to see if my pictures were ready to view, waiting to see if they would contact me, after that time passed I contacted Maria and she said the pictures would be up later that day. Again no pictures the day she promised no txt, so I waited a few days and called, again no answer later that night I got a txt saying she would be uploading my pictures that she was sick but wasn't COVID19. Understandable.... got some pictures but not all I waited a few days I emailed no answer, I txt no answer, I called no answer. Asking about all the other cute poses we had taken with the confetti, she text and said she would look into it. And as of this day no explanation on what happen to the poses. I have called, emailed, and txt Maria and no response just silence. They did a sorry job editing my photos they put up repeated poses and I didn't get my full 70-85 pictures I was promised. I have tried multiple times to contact them just want an explanation and have yet to get a phone call back or email or txt. I'm working with my CC to deny payment at least half, I have emailed Maria asking her for half back and of course silence. Have reported to the BBB as well, this is no way to run a business. My advise pay use your own photographer, she had 3 for us and I cant believe all those pictures were just lost. So don't waist your money use your own photographer you trust, that has a better work ethic then these people do. read more
