We booked the studio for my daughter's first birthday pictures. Less than an hr before our booking time (11:30) on a Saturday, we received a call that my reservation would have to be cancelled due to some water leaking into the building from the rain the night before. I was devastated of course. What's worst is the way the situation was handled by Douglas. Although he was not rude, he did nearly nothing to help us. I feel in that type of situation, you would go out of your way to help find another studio. Instead, he sent the photographer a list of 10 studios. (Mind you, I can pull up a list on Yelp just as easily.) My poor husband and brother dealt with my panic but luckily another studio (not on Douglas' list) came through. To top it all off, I was told via text that our deposit would be returned by end of business day on 9/9. It is 10/1 and we are just now receiving our deposit back. While the studio looks nice and the booking process was simple, I guess be cautious if Houston is going to be having any type of rain or inclement weather. Have a backup plan with this studio especially if you have a special event/time you are trying to capture. The customer service was subpar. read more

Doug was fantastic, he helped carry my equipment in during turbulent weather, and also assisted in my setup when he realized I was a one-man crew. I did not expect his help and generosity. He even was generous enough to walk me through his favorite lighting techniques for the studio set up. The "modern room" is wide, open-spaced, and provides ample room for video. Loved using this space. I chose Houston Rental Studio over their competitors initially for the super convenient parking and location right outside of downtown. The staff was great and helpful, the studio was clean and organized when we arrived, and there were plenty of resources to stay safe during the pandemic. Although I didn't get a chance to meet them, the owners seemed very gracious via email communication. Can't wait to utilize this space for shoots in the future. read more

I used the Modern for my 2pm-5pm shoot and it was perfect. The lighting shift during those hours gave me more options for lighting and framing. The chairs available were perfect for our shoot! I use this studio often would like to give it 5 start but the staff is the rudest ever! Not Jared just Pamela there is always a issues when she s working. Her customer service is POOR! So much so that I now only book on weeekdays when Jared is working. He is very accommodating and my reason to always return. Also their white wall has had a scratch on it for about 2 months now which has not been repaired.....thats crazy for a photography studio. Im currently searching for a new rental. The owner himself has called to inform me that I wont be allowed to book at the studio because of this review (which was also left on their Facebook). As a PR professional this is truly sad. I will be informing other review boards as well as my network of media outlets. My roster of client wont miss working with this studio. I was a little worried coming in, I was on a small budget so I just rented it for an hour. Thankfully the studio was so accommodating, Joseph helped me set up the back drop, specific to my wants and needs, which was tremendous help. I was able to get a lot of shots in that short amount of time, also using the windows and the warehouse as a back drop. It's very beautiful the way the light shines in during sunset. Looked like a great place to shoot. However, they do not allow music videos to be filmed in the studio. This should be made clear on their website. Currently the website simply says "Please keep in mind that TheHoustonStudio is only accepting bookings for music videos on a case by case basis and the studio retains complete discression in accepting/declining rentals." However according to Jason's email seen below it seems that this is the standard operating procedure. "We unfortunately do not allow shooting of music videos in our studio at this time. Sorry. The Houston Studio and their staff are life savers. I had a shoot scheduled at another studio in town with a reservation of 4pm-7pm. I arrived promptly at 4pm to begin setting up for the 5pm call time. After having some trouble contacting the other studio's owners I reached out to the Houston Studio. They were able to get me in and ready to go within 15 mins and within my allotted budget. Not only were they very accomodation but their studio manager Pam was an absolute pleasure and a huge help. She even went as far as moving her personal plans around to accommodate my crazy schedule. As for the space itself, the location has plenty of room, wonderful natural light, as well as nearly any piece of equipment you could need. Jason, Jared and the team were an absolute dream to work with. The space is so unique yet versatile and they offer excellent prices. We used their space for an event and they allowed us to drill directly into the beams overhead, and let our creative fly with anything we had in mind. Only note when hosting an event there is to begin any noise / sound check after 6pm due to the neighboring businesses. Other than that, I'd give them 6 stars if I could!! I had a great experience doing a photoshoot at this studio. The managers were very nice and accommodating and the area of studio I chose, suited my needs very well. I got great photos displaying a good variety shots/backgrounds, lighting, etc. They have backdrops and chairs and a dressing room and a lounging area with tv, music and free bottled water. I recently attended a lighting workshop led by Jason Talley and Muttley Escobar at The Houston Studio. It was an excellent workshop and I walked away with concrete knowledge and experience to improve my off camera lighting. They are very careful to limit the size of the workshops so they can spend one-on-one time with participants. There was 1 model to every 3 participants and we were able to rotate models and setups to get a good variety of shot opportunities. I highly recommend their workshops and look forward to doing another one in the future. read more

I hosted an Art Show here oct.20th, I just wanna say that Pam the manager NOT owner of the studio was amazing and did a great job with explaining and helping out, However the owner did not only treat me and my team disrespectfully but he was being racist and this grown man YELLED at one of my sweetest artists for chipping his paint even AFTER I told him I'd pay for any and all damages ( which I did) . I loved the beautiful venue but it was extremely over priced (I rented both the warehouse& studio) for the service I got, I do not recommend this venue to anyone, Sharespace another warehouse is pretty good and cheaper with a clean up service. Sorry Houston Rental Studio, don't treat people who give you over $5k like crap ! The owner honestly embarrassed himself . Art show was amazing tho ! read more

The studio space is great however it was not a great experience. We arrived at our scheduled time and no one was there to let us in. We waited to be let in and once in we had a worker who constantly walked in and out of our space. We rented the full studio due to it being a boudoir photo session however it seemed anyone and everyone walked in the studio. By the time we left we had a woman & two construction workers come in. The gentleman working the next event came in and was very disrespectful to us telling us one more shot and we were done. This was all at 2:07 after we started late due to no privacy to get started. This may be an awesome place for pictures however if you are needling privacy it is not for you. ETA: I am not the photographer but a client. Your site states to rent the FULL studio for such pictures however your workers had a revolving door of men in and out the entire time. Once we were rudely informed of our time we did stop immediately and leave. Perhaps poor scheduling on your part of events so close together was the issue. If you have security cameras then you can see us there waiting along with another client with our stuff unloaded on the front step. The main issue was men in and out while we were shooting, in no way is that ok stated or not. Thanks for your quick response. read more

Sooooo, this place is awesome. I had a bridal session today and it was nothing short of a great experience. Despite a miscommunication error on timing and studio space from both my end and the studio, the staff was extremely accommodating and fixed the issue within minutes. My client left very happy and I felt very well taken care of. The space itself is clean and very well organized. Lots of awesome spots to take photos and the studio even leads to great outdoor locations. I'll be back for sure and I'd recommend it to everyone. read more
