I like a good local camera shop and Precision fits the bill. Classes are good and the events allow for vendors to show their latest while picking up the taxes for purchases. Always good. Watch the warranties, they're a bit slow at submitting the paperwork though coverage is supposedly retroactive to the date of purchase. Not something I want to test with expensive glass. Purchased my first camera here and, while waiting, the staff helped gather the accessories I needed. I asked for an extra battery, and the employee checking me out grabbed one from behind the counter. Unfortunately, it ended up being the wrong battery size. Something I didn't realize until I got home, which is over two hours away. When I tried to return or exchange the battery 21 days later (since I'm not local), I was told they couldn't take it back and was advised to sell it on Marketplace instead. Now I'm stuck with a $75 battery that doesn't fit my camera due to a mistake made at checkout. The batteries are kept behind the counter and selected by staff, so this wasn't an error on my end. I've given this store three tries. All three times the gear I purchased and tried to purchase was faulty (Sony Fx3x, 7inch monitor, and just today, a small tripod that didn't have the arm). The people on the store were intentionally unhelpful. I tried to speak to a manager, and while trying to get their name and email (they weren't in the store), an employee CALLED THE POLICE! This wasn't a heated situation. This was me asking if they had a missing tripod arm on a new tripod I was trying to purchase. I was frustrated and expressed my frustration over past faulty gear sold. The assistant manager John was really bad, he seemed to revel in not helping me. Don't shop here. It's fishy and poorly run. And if you have an issue you want escalated to a manager, they will call the cops. Which is crazy. Edit for an update: In an attempt to repoorte my experience with the Houston Manager, the Austin General Manager, and eventually, the Owner, I received one contentious email, was hung up on several times as soon as I was put on hold to retrieve the Austin manager (which admittedly might be their phone system), and then a curt and clear convo from the Owner. I eventually received a call from the CEO, and he explained that in order to not be liable, he would not be explaining anything to me or offering and apology for my experience, that the employees were in instructed to hang up on me, and that Precision Camera employees were not to sell me anything in the future. I respect and understand that this makes me sound like I went into the store and caused a huge scene. They have definitely responded to me as though I did. I admit that I was confused why the one employee would sell me a separate arm, then the assistant manager wouldn't, and then while I was waiting from an email response from the Houston manager, the police showed. It was a confusing escalation. I was frustrated. I'm sure I could have been more polite, but now that I've experienced the entire chain of command, it seems the culture there is in line with the treatment I received. Shop elsewhere. I will. I mean, I have to now... not that I had planned to come back, but you should go elsewhere for whatever your needs are. read more

So my wife was interested in getting a camera lens and we entered the store first thing in the morning. A guy offered to help and they proceeded to talk about some options, while I looked around the store. About 20 minutes later, I walk by, and my wife is trying a camera, good; I continue my aimless browsing. About 5 minutes later, the guy switched his conversation and now he is showing her his personal portfolio: some young ladies glamor shots in bikini, lingerie, and the sort. I was close enough to hear he was going about having his studio at his place and some other bull. I mean, really? I stayed close by, and now the guy is talking about some classes they have, my wife asks about a flier or some related info, and the guy says "we don't have any at the moment but give me your e-mail, I'll send it", and he proceeds to save it on his phone. We leave and on the way home, I tell my wife about my impression about the 60+ year old, creepy dude. Not that she hadn't caught on to it. We get home and a little later, the guy is sending a message to my wife's instagram. The same dude, name: Harry Connor, saying something about not having typed her e-mail correctly and who knows what else, my wife did not want to open the message. Really, perv-Harry?, you went and looked for her personal Instagram?, is this normal practice at this store? To the store owners: what are your employee's priorities? To the future clientele: don't send your young daughters or wives if you don't want them to get approached by this creepy grandpa. Needless to say, I was put off by the experience, and did not go ahead and purchase a couple things I thought I was interested on. My wife won't be going back either. read more

This is a great place to buy a camera, print your pictures or get quality education. The staff is friendly and the store is beautiful. They just had their grand opening and the deals were hot with representatives from all major brands ready to talk about their gear. They had model access and offered great specials. Jon was very helpful and showed me step by step how to use the camera and gave great pointers!! Also set everything up for me before I left!! Very pleased with customer service! CAUTION: Do your home work before visiting this store. Foolishly, I trusted them while trading in my Nikon DSLR system during their event where they promised a 10% bonus. After driving from another city, I was told by Fernando they were only interested in Canon L lenses and were not buying Nikon. I was being set up. Then the store manager, Omar saw my equipment was in excellent condition and offered me prices that were half of what I cold have gotten any where else. My bad. See the price list below and then check around. I have always purchased from Precision but will never again. A simple $1,500 screw job cost them a customer. Comments made to them have gone unanswered. Went to get some gear for my college daughter. 3 people working. 1 was casually talking to another customer at the Nikon counter. Another employee asked if we needed help and I stated we wanted to look at Nikon cameras. Never saw her again. She was the only one to speak to us but never actually helped. We wandered the store for a good while as the only other customer was right in front of the Nikons. The other two employees never spoke but I did hear him say the other customer could not rent as "the guy that handles rentals was not in today". From what I could see the gear was nice and good prices. Nobody wanted to work or help so after way too long we finally left. Any future purchases or rentals we will just go to Humble or the Houston Camera Exchange. read more

BEWARE OF THE RETURN POLICY!!! Unlike B&H, Adorama, or Amazon... If you look at the ultra-fine print on the back of your receipt it says you have 14 days to return it and you must pay a 15% restocking fee. My return didn't even have the battery unwrapped from its original packaging. I was even going to buy the more expensive camera (R8 vs the R10) as I decided to spend the extra money to have the full frame sensor. Most of the folks were friendly and knowledgeable. One little smart ass managed to insult my wife, the manager apologized, but I won't be going back. These brick-and-mortar stores will likely become extinct. (Woodlands Location) read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Staff used to be great. Not so much anymore. They are more like google robots that have to either lookup every question you have or just plain out dodge it. It's a true shame of what the store has turned into. I remember going in this time last year and my only complaint was stock wasn't great. But the staff was tremendously helpful and friendly. As my dad used to say, "I've been there two times: first and last." The only "Precision" about this business is their awful, rude, unprofessional staff. I came into the store to rent a full-frame lens for my Nikon DSLR, after having been told over the phone that they had this particular lens in stock. Traveled 45 miles to get there, only to be told that they had no idea what I was talking about -- they *never* have that particular lens for rent, it was a purchase-only item. OK, do you have it in stock, and what's the purchase price? "We don't have it. We only deal in mirrorless". "The Austin store has what you're looking for." The impertinent gentleman actually suggested that I *drive* to their Austin location! Seriously? I can say with "precision" that I'll continue to be loyal to Humble Camera and Houston Camera Exchange. read more

I don't recommend renting from this precision. I've been to the one in Austin multiple times and have never had issues. I fell asleep after a long wedding yesterday and was late to return one of the lenses today. It was due at 11:30 and brought it back at 4:45pm. I was informed then that I was already charged a late fee, and lightheartedly commented I should have just kept the lens an extra day then. Quickly one of the workers, who has never been very friendly at all said "well no, we would have charged you again if you brought it back tomorrow". I wanted clarification and asked "you mean that if I had kept it an extra day I would've been charged two extra days?" A short and rude yes was her answer. I was excited to have Precision close to home, I've traveled to the Austin one multiple times, but they're severely lacking customer service ( with the exception of the awesome lady who was actually receiving and checking the lens, she has short hair and has always been kind). Sorry folks, will stick to online renting and purchasing. Kindness and friendliness goes a long way in customer service. It wasn't the late fee the issue, but the lack of customer service and the shortness. The store was empty and with rudeness you won't fill it up. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I have given this shop multiple opportunities to demonstrate they want my business. There is a lack of professionalism and knowledge which is a great disappointed since the store is only 3 miles from my house. I ordered a z9 and the day they opened the store and was told I was first on the list. I checked in several times on status and went in the shop for another reason to find they one on display even though it was still back ordered. I asked about status and they said they had a few people pick them up already but they were still on back order. I asked another day about a 180-400 mm lens and they told me there was no such thing. I had to show them on Nikon website. They did not offer to order. Last time I'll ever go I went to inquire about a lens they had in stock but couldn't get any help from 3 people who were standing around doing nothing. I asked for help and they said someone would help but no one came over. I left and ordered a 14-24 on line. Oh did get an email two weeks after the z9 incident offering me a used version at the new price. SMH read more
