dear Mod Bee: the new e edition is horrible, lacking up to date coverage, sports stories not included, all news is at least 24hours old even if it is published. I have debated about dropping this horrible news coverage for a long time, and now I think you have tipped the scale, if you cannot publish more comprehensive, up to date news you have lost me. this news service is not worth continuing my subscription of 19 years. read more

My husband recently passed away. Placing his obituary online was a nightmare. The website was hard to navigate and no one was available to speak to on the phone. My credit card was charged and exorbitant amount for a 1 day E-edition and upload to Legacy. Thanks Modesto Bee for price gouging people in their time of grief. read more

The Modesto Bee has become a source of frustration. I would like support the local paper but the terrible customer service makes it not worth the hassle. Impossible to reach anyone at the local level to address problems. read more

This paper is nothing but used for the same 10 people to brag about themselves and their friends and their likes/achievements. The writing is also so bleh, could've just read a post from the Neighborhood app and it would be better. When there is something interesting, it's so....meh. read more

After years of complaining, and no calls back, this is how my parents continue to get the Bee delivered. Wide open driveway and grass area, but always under the car and wedged under the wheel. Never mind the fact it should be delivered on the porch. Been waiting for a call from District Manager to call back for 3 years. Won't have any sympathy for when they finally shut down. read more

We have been long time subscribers to the Modesto Bee. This past summer, we decided to switch from a paper version of the paper to an E-edition. We had always paid by personal check for the subscription. We decided to let our subscription run out and didn't think there would be any problem. We never signed or agreed to any notice that would have extended our paper subscription. We were on vacation for a few days and returned to find the paper was still being delivered. We thought it was just a bookkeeping error, but the delivery continued. It finally stopped and we thought that was the end of it. A few weeks later we got a notice from a collection firm that we owed the Bee $229. We never asked that the paper be delivered beyond the expiration date of our subscription. We paid the company as we didn't want our credit score affected. We were not happy with these deceptive and questionable business practices! David Oltman read more

I would give minus stars! I opened a p. O box in Salida. I'm on chemo and do not check mail regularly. I pay to receive mail not a box full of junk mail. I called modestobee twice and was told I would be removed from their list. Included is a pic of 2 1/2 weeks of junk. Several times my mail was stuck/ripped as a result die to over stuffing. The post office stated there was nothing they can do. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. I don't take the paper anymore since they would never deliver the paper any further than my driveway and it would often get wet from our sprinklers. Since then, I have often received their ad bundle on my driveway. I have called and asked nicely for them to stop but it continues. I call and it stops for a little while, but then starts again. Last time I asked how many times I had called and asked them to stop and they said "over 9". I think I have been extremely patient over the years but today I got an add bundle again and I decided to write a review. Modesto Bee paper delivery people suck in the worst way!!!!!! read more

Modesto bee does not let you cancel the paper, they harass you endlessly!! Until I said this is harassment then they cancelled!! It's sooo expensive for the very thin paper, not worth it!! read more

My father, who has Alzheimer's, has been continuously harassed by the staff through soliciting phone calls and mail. He canceled his subscription and they continued calling every single day trying to get him to give his credit card information. I then contacted them and explicitly stated to not contact him. They STILL will not stop. He has never had any outstanding bills. He does NOT want your paper. The next step is the Better Business Bureau. I do not have one drop of respect left for this business. read more

WORST Delivery service EVER!! Even WORSE customer service. RUDE people. Our carrier delivers the paper if and when he or she feels like it. Throws it in the road when I have a long driveway. Sometimes I get the Stockton Record. I mean, how friggin hard is it to be a paper delivery person? SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION! The customer service is even worse. Rude ass people. I have tried canceling the paper, and they keep giving me free months. I'm tired of giving chances.!!! read more

Purchased a 52 week subscription Sunday only through groupon. My only saving grace is that the Bee doesn't have my credit card information. I purchased on 9/15/2017 and every 3 months I get robocalls stating I owe money and my service is going to be stopped. I'm done, this is CRAP service! Keep those last 3 months, it's not worth my frustration. I called to tell them that and what do you know, their systems are down and they cannot access my account. Funny, your robocall came just a minute prior to me calling, you could access it then... SAVE YOURSELF THE FRUSTRATION! read more

You know it's soooo frustrating when you go to read an article and it wants you to pay for it. I mean it's only a few dollars but it's the whole point that members of this community can't even read an article without paying. It's like that creepy dude that won't leave you alone. Your paper isn't that good. It might get more views and support if you didn't force people to pay for access to stories about the community. I mean charge for news papers but don't charge for access to stories you post and look interesting. You hit it and oh..want to read it pay. Nope I'm good thanks though. read more

I have had the Modesto Bee for YEARS and the Customer service has gotten worse over the years, MANY problems MANY calls and just NO service... We called to inform them about my Grandfathers passing with a death certificate included. The month following we received a collections notice from A.R.M Solutions for The Modesto Bee against my Grandfather. When he was alive he always paid for a certain amount of months in advance by check. Yet, he continues to receive collection notices in the mail for The Modesto Bee. We went into my Grandpas bank statements and found that he did pay for a 6 month subscription for the newspaper. We provided that statement to them, but they continue to send notices? read more

I have been a long time subscriber (30 years) of the Bee. During that time period I have had to deal with a lot of changes, but some how we always got through it. The paper has dramatically reduced the number of pages (not sure how the delivery person can throw the paper because it is so light.) They have eliminated the Saturday edition and of course there has always been a price issues. Every year they try to raise the price by 80 to 120 percent which is absolutely ridiculous. I usually am able call and come to some sort of agreement. The price has gone from $106 in 2019 to this year at $339 so over a four year period it has gone up 220%. That's 50 plus % per year. They tried to raise it 80% this year and would not budge on that price. I could live with 15 to 20% but that was a no go so needless to say I am leaving the Bee after 30 years. I think this was their goal in the first place. When I told a few friends the comments were and I quote "That rag is not worth it " read more

When I went on modbee.com to post an obituary to be printed in the paper, I certainly did not think it would be free. I chose a modest template (one column of text and a small picture), with a price "starting at $46". As soon as I typed in my mother-in-law's name, the price jumped to $106. After typing in basic information like funeral/viewing dates and times, the price jumped to $814 for a 3 day run. I shortened the run to 2 days and it still cost $524. My father-in-law is a 79 year old vet on a fixed income. The Bee's pricing is outrageous. They are clearly taking advantage of those who are grieving and at their most vulnerable. We will all be canceling our subscriptions. *Response to the Bee's comment: Thank you for the offer, but I don't need assistance with my account. What I needed was to run a short obituary at an affordable price. I had even called the obituary department to ask if the price quoted online was correct. As I stated in my review, I chose a modest template that literally said "starting at $46." Final cost $814??? In addition, long time customers paying nearly $900 a year yet new subscribers pay a fraction of that price? No wonder so many of my friends and colleagues are canceling their subscription. read more

I agreed to subscribe to the Modesto Bee after being contacted by phone on a promotional deal. I was told I would receive a $50 dining certificate as part of the promotion. They said it would be with the delivery of the bee in an envelope. After contacting them repeatedly and being told that it was coming I finally called to cancel. They kept me going for over a year. I canceled the subscription today and was told sorry nothing we can do about that. This was a scam and I want my subscription money I paid refunded! read more

My subscription renewal was due May, 20, 2022. On May 19 I renewed online, however, decided against it right away. I don't need the extra expense at this time. I tried calling, but because I was calling from my cell phone I was transferred to a chat line. After 45 minutes of not getting an agent I emailed customer service. They're telling me I can't cancel until this subscription is up in June 2023. I tried explaining, but to no avail. This is how they treat a loyal customer for more than 25 years, let alone a senior citizen. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. I cannot believe how they have made so many errors on my account. From billing errors to delivery issues. The problem has been getting worse as the years go on. I have had this paper service for at least 10 years and I am simply fed up. After these latest issues I am through with Modbee and am contacting the bbb. I have been paid in full for a year. Instead of getting my year, they cancel me 10 months in and send me to a collection agency for money that they owe me! REALLY?!?! Now that I finally got them to fix that particular problem, I still can't get my paper delivered. Outrageous! Save yourselves the trouble, people!!! Just get ur news and ads on your cell phones. Don't waste your time, money, and energy! I have better things to do than spending time on the phone asking businesses to correct their mistakes. read more

Do NOT pay for Home Delivery as you will basically NEVER receive your paper. I call almost every day to report we did not get our paper again; their recorded message says they notice we have had several problems with delivery and will report to the manager in our area. Ultra liberal, very little coverage, all sports news at the high school level more than a day late horrible paper!

The Modesto Bee is a great local regional newspaper, the staff and writers do a great job, they cover the central valley, the Mother Lode and I enjoy reading the business and entertainment sections. BEWARE POTENTIAL SUBSCRIBERS - DO NOT SUBSCRIBE - SEE MY FACTS BELOW I have been a Modesto Bee customer for over 40 years. May 2020. I cancelled my subscription due to the paper continually not being delivered. I would call and the next day receive the day before's paper. Then in November 2021 my husband went to a race and at a kiosk signed us back up for the Modesto Bee. Things were wonderful until May 30, 2022, when our carrier (Christie Baker) had to leave for medical reasons. Now, once again my papers are not arriving, until the following day. This has occurred for four days in a row. I have called Modesto Bee everyday directly and they apologized, but to no avail. I have contacted our present carrier (Janet Welch 209-850-6732) everyday also. She yelled at me yesterday stating she was new and had so many papers to handle. This morning said she would have me a paper at my home within one hour. That was about 10 AM. this morning. It is now l:30 PM and I still have no paper. Now, when I attempt to call her, the phone goes directly to an answering machine. I have called the Modesto Bee Delivery Department each day also. They tell me they will have someone call me back. After four days of no paper, and with calls having been made requesting a return call, I still have not yet received even one call back. SO, BEWARE POTENTIAL SUBSCRIBERS, if you are moving to this area and want to get a paper. This is the worst delivery service I have ever experienced read more

Please do not think about subscribing to the Modesto Bee for home delivery. I do not get my paper on Sunday's In fact I only get my paper 5 days out of the 7 if I am lucky. My neighbors I see get their paper. I call Modesto Bee customer service, I get told that they will send another Sunday paper which I never received and they will credit my account which I never see. Save your money get the only line paper. I have been a customer since 1997 and the customer service and home delivery service is horrible. Just a disgrace:( read more

Why am I not surprised that there are these one star reviews and horrible comments! If there was zero stars that's what I would give! After several phone calls and the most ridiculous responses I have taken to Yelp. Every year for the past few years the price of the paper has continued to climb over 100 dollars a year. My 94 year old parents have been getting the paper since 1960 and yet they refuse to give them a discount!! Not a loyalty discount senior discount.. nothing! Last November their bill was $594.00 for the year, and they said thats the discount!!!! Enough is enough! Talk about elder abuse! Good bye Modesto Bee! Will no longer be giving you my parents hard earned money. How sad for them that they lose out on something they enjoy because of greed! Lori C. read more

Please do not subscribe to this paper as it is not the same as it was when I started 35 years ago. They have lost their ability to find carriers that can deliver faithfully. I quit receiving the paper earlier this year because of delivery issues. Then was called a month ago and promised that the issues where fixed and that my paper would be here every day. Well if it does get delivered maybe twice a week it is usually on the street or across the street or most of the time I am looking for something that was never delivered. Place a call to a foreign country for customer service, continue trying to find a number for maybe a local agent, have fun. All of my neighbors have quit the paper and I will as soon as this subscription is complete. Just a fair warning save yourself some frustration and use the computer to get your news or your local television stations. John Moore read more

Beware of delivery issues and failure to provide services promised! After months of erratic delivery and missing papers, the Bee officially advise they were stopping delivery to my area, tried to convert me "automatically" to online only. When I protested in a long call to customer "service", the overseas rep claimed to have obtained authorization to process a prorated refund...5 calls (all agreeing the refund was requested and all but last one saying it was "authorized") and 4 months later still NO REFUND!!!! Never had such shabby service from an American based company! read more

The Bee has the absolute worst home delivery on the West Coast. And what they call Customer Service is a total joke. They miss delivering at least twice a month, and, when you call, all they offer is a one day credit. I don't want a credit, I want the dang paper. Of course they suggest reading on line. If I wanted to read on line I wouldn't subscribe to home delivery. read more

I am always the person who asks for a manager to praise customer service and very rarely complain. I have to make an exception for the Modesto Bee!! It has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE possible! I have had delivery issues in the past but was assured that it would not be a problem this time. If it was, I could just call and cancel. BUYER BEWARE!! Their service center is only open from 8 to 12. I ordered on September 9 and was told to wait a few days to make sure the circulation started; which I patiently did. I waited another week and then tried to call only to discover their very limited hours. I canceled online last week because I had NEVER RECEIVED ONE PAPER!!! I called today to make sure they got the cancellation, which of course they claim they did not. I had to pay $9.32 FOR NOTHING JUST TO GET RID OF THEM!!! Save yourself the trouble and do not fall for their subscription offers!!! I wish I could give 0 Stars!! read more

I agree with the guy who posted that the entire process from delivery to customer service is horrible. We are going on day 4 of not receiving a paper that we paid for in advance. When you call Dan or Marshall, their reply is: "you want my help or not?" Great attitudes from 2 people that are supposedly in charge of customer service! This is a sham from luring customers and telling them that they will receive a paper, when in fact, they don't even know if their carriers are working, nor do they care. They want their customers to switch to an online Bee. They don't want to deliver the paper anymore to customers. It must make the staff at The Bee to feel good to charge customers in advance and then not follow through with the service they promised. Don't subscribe to this newspaper unless you want to throw your money away! read more
