I have subscribed to the print/online subscription (I love to actually hold the paper in my hands while enjoying my morning coffee). In the one month the service has been active I have NEVER received the paper as ordered- at least one delivery is missed in the 4 days per week I should receive it. Sigh- it's a crap shoot which day they'll miss.. Repeated calls and emails to their subscription services result in automated replies to assure me they have fixed the problem- never a live response or even an unscripted, original reply. I believe even the Modesto Bee has no faith it'll be relevant in the foreseeable future and thus does not address customer loyalty in any significant way. read more

Had to call multiple times to cancel digital subscription that I was paying big bucks for. First, they changed it over to weekly pay. I called back and said no, I want to cancel. Instead of cancelling at the end of May 29, it will cancel on April 29 which is fine except for the fact that leaves an $8 and some change credit which they refuse to refund!!!! I paid $30 something dollars for subscription for delivery of newspaper three and a half weeks ago. I RECEIVED 3 PAPERS TOTAL WHICH I FOUND IN THE ROAD . I have called customer service so many times and all I hear is just give me one more week I'll take care of it I personally will take care of this and nothing I still have not received a paper it's ridiculous I finally call for the last time today I want to cancel my subscription and I want my money back they're in the Philippines people Philippines You can't even talk to anybody here in town even close to California they're in the Philippines it's going to take them 3 weeks for them to refund me my money and they they can't cancel my prescription they have to I have to wait a week then they can cancel it this is a joke The Modesto Bee newspaper is a joke it's sad but it's a joke. You have to work really hard to be this bad of an organization. They don't answer their phones or hang up on you. They scam everyone. Everyone I speak to gets a different price quote. I believe it is based on area code, if the area is considered more affluent, they charge more. When asked to stop delivering the paper they continue and then send an inflated bill. read more

Beware of their digital service. They claim that you can cancel at anytime, but there's a catch. We paid $159 for a years digital service and after a month we decided to cancel. The only problem is that they won't refund you one red cent for the unused months. The wording was very deceiving when we signed up. At no time did we see no refund for unused time. So we are now out close to $159. read more

If I could give Zero Stars I would. The MoBee is nothing, not even close to the paper I delivered as a kid growing up here in Modesto. The only newspaper I ever subscribed to as an adult. Heaven forbid you submit a Letter To The Editor stating something that some mailroom clerk at the Bee doesn't agree with. And don't bother pointing out that your comments are about a lived experience, or that you can prove the validity of what you have contained in you submission, because you will be told that you don't know that which you have commented on and The Bee does not and will not publish comments, statements or letters known to contain untruths. Believe me, I had no idea that I hadn't actually lived what I had written about. And I have to thank The Bee for having pointed that out to me. Unfortunately I'm unable to contact The Bee to thank them because I have been banned, blackballed as it were, for having pointed out to that mailroom clerk that I don't appreciate the insinuation that I'm a liar or I'm merely fabricating the contents of my Letter To The Editor. I'm not sure if it's the Modesto Bee or if is Groupon but I will place my review on both. The Modesto Bee allows for Discounts to go through Groupon at a great rate. We have been purchasing the $57.00 package for a few years now. Now if you all are good at math, even if you are not you can easily figure out or look up that 52 weeks is one year, correct? Well, first off we purchased a 52 week ( year subscription for my 96 year old father in law, ( they wanted to charge him $825 or $850 ) when he only reads the local sports and obituaries. That's kind of high for one of the few living veterans don't you think? Well, guess what? They cancelled a week later even though he never even got one paper. He is in the same zip code as we are, in fact he is around the corner from us. Groupon gave no explanation nor did the Modesto Bee. They did not refund it to my credit card but to Groupon bucks. I sent them at least 4 emails and did the chat thing about 3 times. Nothing except they got my email. Well goody for them! So I decided to purchase it again using my Groupon bucks. Guess what I noticed, purchased April 19,2022 for 52 and it EXPIRES ON MAY 20,2022! How is that 52 weeks? I'm not sure who is doing this but it's a scam and a rip off. I went back and noticed I purchased ( because we got an email for renewal yesterday for our account) Purchased December 2021 expired January 2022 excuse me! It was also for 52 weeks! I went over all my invoices and sure enough they all say 52 Weeks! Plus the Modesto Bee was supposed to give us a couple of months free, which they obviously did because we weren't getting our Sunday papers for a few months. When I contacted them about it, they said " oh yeah, sorry about that. We don't have a carrier out there." I asked why weren't we notified at least and she said "I don't know, I guess we figured you would notice" so they were going to get paid anyway while we didn't get a paper and not bother notifying us and pro rating it on their own. Obviously, I was not happy about this and let them know that. They charge a fortune for a paper for something that takes less than 5 minutes to read. Someone like my father in law cannot afford that nor can many people for matter. The Modesto Bee has turned into a left wing paper that most people only read for the local news. The Modesto Bee double-billed me for my online subscription (they had automatically charged my credit card). I've called customer service 6 times in the last 2 months (the last 3 times I've spoken with Supervisors) all of whom assured me that they'd credit me back the duplicate payment within 7-10 business days. It's been 71 days and still no credit! If I could give them a -0- rating, I would. I plan on non-renewing my subscription. read more

I've been subscribing to the online version of The Modesto Bee for over a year and my subscription went from $49.99 to $129.99 this year. I called to cancel and asked for a refund of the $129.00, they had charged to my credit card on file. That was on June 21, 2020, 5 weeks later and 5 calls later, still no refund, which The Modesto Bee blamed on my Credit Card provider! They won't give me a confirmation number or a reference number to the so-called refund they say they issued. I did call my credit card and my account shows no refund being made, had to open a case against The Modesto Bee. Bad experience, have no idea when I will get my refund which I could really use right now due to Covid-19. read more

My daughter lives off Crowslanding Rd in Modesto, when I originally ordered the paper for her they delivered it down her road and threw it over her fence. When she went to resubscribe the carrier was putting it her mail box (federal offense) and I complained and asked them to bring it back down her road to the fence. After several calls to the call center still not resolved. Now the carrier is putting her paper in the ground below the row of mail boxes for anyone to pick up. Which it has happened several times. We are suppose to receive the paper daily for my elderly parent who has subscribed to the Modesto Bee for more than 60 years. For the past 4 years or so it has been a nightmare trying to get the paper delivered on time, intact, or at all. Currently we receive the paper on average about 1-2 times out of 7. With hundreds of complaints to the carrier, the distributor, and yes the Modesto Bee still no resolution. Just a scattered response from the Modesto bee that they are aware of the problem and will double their efforts in improving the service. It truly amazes me the amount they charge in advance for a service they have no intention in providing. What ever happened to people taking pride in their job. Shame on you Modesto Bee. read more

HORRIBLE DELIVERY SERVICE!!! I subscribed to the Sunday only would only receive the paper every other week. I continuously would call to complain (speaking only to a live person, by saying I have never received the paper to all questions the automated system asks). After several months they got it right and I would receive my paper every week with no hiccups, I figured let me just renew my subscription and pay for the year. That was the wrong decision as I never received my paper again after that. Customer service would always assure me that this was unacceptable and they were forwarding my complaint to the heighest person possible and the problem would be rectified. I continued to faithfully call every week speaking to someone for 5 months. I have finally given up to chalk this as lost money. Modesto Bee's delivery service is the worst and customer service is polite but I feel as if they don't give a crap either jus telling me what I wanted to hear. I don't understand how this company is even in business still with the crap service they offer. read more

It's so sad that our local newspaper can accept subscriptions and not deliver. I've made many calls to report the delivery problem. The Modesto Bee says they have the issue escalated. Apparently there is no delivery person assigned to my area. I've called again asking for a delivery manager to call. I asked when I would receive the call and was advised within 24 hours. Again, no response. Call never came. Paper still not delivered. Do not subscribe or you too may be burned. The newspaper is an okay read. Just an average local paper. My gripe is the delivery service. I've been getting this paper for years. For awhile, the paper was usually delivered on time. Now since August, I'll be lucky to get my paper by the time I get home from work. It NEVER comes on time anymore. I NEVER get to read my paper before work anymore. I usually read yesterday's paper in the morning- it really sucks. I've called several times a week always getting their computer voicemail and I leave my information. Twice I was irritated enough to try to find a person at the Bee, had to call advertising to get a person and asked to be transferred. Once in the right department, I was twice promised they would fix the problem. It's not fixed. If you know an easier way to find a person in their subscription dept. message me. If you're looking to get your paper delivered, and it's okay with you that it's delivered late morning, or sometimes not at all, with NO customer service, then subscribe away. read more
