Best signal in the San Joaquin Valley. Great classic rock sounds.

I wish there was a lower rating than 1 star, which they don't deserve. It used to be an all oldies…read morestation with limited commercials. It is now a Punjabi language station. They say to tune in to their sister station KRVR, which is ok but they are not dedicated to 50/60 classic oldies. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! You've ruined a good thing!!!!

I discovered it driving through the area during the Christmas season and they were playing some holiday tunes that I hadn't heard in a long time. I've since listened to them online in Sacramento where their signal doesn't come in, and have heard a great variety of stuff ranging from big band, 50s pop, Motown, 60s British Invasion, to pre-disco 70s- the most recent song I've heard has been Frankie Valli's "Grease" and that likely got on only because of Frankie Valli- whoever programs the music seems to think disco is when music started going bad. Despite being an oldies format they play a wide variety with many songs that you truly haven't heard in a long time, and I've rarely heard the same song twice which is the main thing that will make me tune out from any station. The occasional standby (like the Monkees' "I'm a Believer") will slip through every now and then, but they more than make up for that by playing stuff you don't know by heart and might even have to look up to ID- today for example I discovered a Gary Lewis and the Playboys track I hadn't heard before. The only downside is the station is automated and doesn't actually name the songs on air or talk about them, though songs are usually ID'd onscreen when listening online. The audio on Tune-In is also a bit compressed, sounding underwater at times, hopefully they can fix that. This is how oldies radio should be though- if you want to hear "My Girl" or "Stand by Me" 5 times every day you can buy the CDs, but here you can actually hear something and say "I haven't heard that one in ages!"

Posting from Pacheco CA on Facebook, a good friend mentioned he was at a mall parking lot listening…read moreto KMPH in the car as his wife and daughter shopped till they dropped. His sound guidance directed friends and followers to this new player (as of 7/1/13) at 840 AM on the dial, featuring '50s-'60s rock dubbed "Graffiti Gold," inspired by the movie American Graffiti and punctuated by recorded snippets of legendary DJ Wolfman Jack. To entice listeners further into yesteryears' Top-40 AM milieu, KMPH liberally sprinkles old Johnny Mann Singers jingles (*) pulled from the 1960s Drake-Chenault "Boss Radio" format (e.g. 93 KHJ, Los Angeles, and The Big 610, KFRC, San Francisco). Like it or not, you won't hear live-DJ chatter between songs, reminiscent of Drake's automated "Hit Parade" and "Solid Gold" formats. Commercial interruptions are few, leading to big blocks of music; not that KMPH wouldn't prefer to have more advertisers. A recorded spot urges listeners to spread the word because of the station's tight promotional budget. Another promises NEVER more than 10 minutes of commercials in an hour. In the meantime, some of the program breaks include old public service announcements made by movie, television and recording celebrities. Comprising the initials of San Joaquin Valley broadcast-bigwig brothers Mike, Pete and Harry Pappas, KMPH streams monaural classics and original stereo recordings in "ultra modern stereophonic sound" on its website, kmph840.com. Is it so necessary to hear "Graffiti Gold" tunes from the 45-rpm era in stereo? The station would likely sound most authentic played from a 9V battery-powered portable transistor radio somewhere around Modesto.
