They are only nice when you move in. I had 12months lease in the modern with one time payment but because I had to be abroad for personal reasons. Was able to only stay for 2weeks and they took off more than $200 from my security deposit by saying I made some floor damage. But I doubt it was already there because I didn't even stay there! I gave up arguing as they will find any sort of reasons to take more money when you are leaving especially for those who have to pay the security deposit. So annoying when it comes to using elevators , moving company, and anything. I was moving out, charge for larger pieces of garbage too. It is understandable but the price is not reasonable. Office people don't seem to communicate or share information at all. My car was sold in this year's March and they still charged the monthly parking fee in the system so I had to argue at the office by saying that my car was never there. And I have left my forwarding address when I stopped by the office to return the key then there is another worker kept emailing me to send her my forwarding address. I thought I was communicating well but they just don't seem to work professionally. Especially the lady there won't say the name but shown in few other reviews. Very unprofessional and don't know how she kept staying while all the others left once the manager company changed. I regret that I should have rented a apartment in Manhattan with the price even if I had to pay a bit more money for rent. Well, most of doormen are very nice and I was talking to Anthony well. I appreciate them. p.s. I attached the picture shows what kind of 'water damage' they charged me for. I didn't even see what is wrong with this piece of floor when I just got this picture. The Modern - Apartments Near Me - Ft. Lee, New Jersey

Do not move in here. I moved in here for the views despite the horrible reviews and the experience has been HORRIBLE. My apartment fills up with marijuana smoke all the time at all hours. My laundry closet perpetually smells like The neighbors above me get into constant domestic disputes waking me up at all hours of the night. I have lived here not even 3 months and have had to report things at least a dozen times and nothing is ever done about it. We have neighbors above us who throw items out the window. We were given a faulty fridge that broke down about 2 weeks after we moved in and all our food spoiled. Management refused to reimburse us. I had to call the front desk about 20 times to get someone to come and repair our fridge. We moved into numerous damages throughout the apartment including a bedroom door that does not close and have been unable to get any maintenance. We also paid $600 for amenities upon moving in and all amenities have been closed since before we moved in. We are paying nearly $4,000 a month to live in a glorified frat house. Google the modern and you will see the drug charges and busts that have occurred there. Update: I have raised my review from 1 to 2 stars because management has allowed me to leave without financial penalty because of the negative experience I have had here. N read more

This review is only toward to the amenities only , please note I am not a resident here and my review might not reflect the real situation of the residents !! Pros: 1. The building is brand new, all of the appliances in unit ( including washer, dryer, microwaves , refrigerator and oven are all brand new, and they are using the high end level brand of GE), the island is not granite but has very similar finish, the kitchen overall is very tastefully done, 2. The amenities are crazy awesome! Not only the gym and poor , but they also have sauna, SPA, video game & karaoke room , movie theater, golf simulator room ( I have never seen this before), residents have to pay $600/ year for using these amenities but I think the rate is very reasonable. 3. Convenient : They have free shuttle taking you cross the bridge every morning( from 7am-9am) to 175 th to take A train, and they also have shuttle taking you back from 175 th street which I think it was really great! It saves you $4 daily for crossing the bridge! 4, The front desk are very polite and nice, and people I met from leasing office are all very nice. Nicole from leasing office gave me a tour today and I really like her! If you are interested you can ask for her to show you the apartment . Cons: Expensive, but, hey, if you have the budget, you definitely need to consider here! This is the best rental building in Fort Lee for sure! read more

I just moved into 100 Modern from UES in Manhattan. I was welcomed by snacks, drinks, a pajama set, and a warm welcoming letter by Gina. I was so moved. I have lived six or so places in NJ/NY but I've never been more welcomed than this time. Gina showed me the apartment three weeks ago in the virtual tour program and I put the deposit right away. I was confident that I will love the apartment and the community. Since then I contacted her many times to ask questions about the documentation and processes as well as many benefits the community provides. She was always kind to reply in detail and passionate about her role. I am excited to live in this luxurious apartment with a beautiful view of the Hudson River and Manhattan. read more

The Modern is known to its residents as a faux-luxury building.  It looks like it but it doesn't operate like it.  Management is weak at best and there is no point complaining because of the building manager's (Barbara) overuse of the phrase, "we'll drill down on that and revisit it" when absolutely nothing happens.   The front desk and mailroom can go either way depending on who is working.  The positions have been farmed out to another company and management uses that as their excuse for why they can't fix anything.  My wife came in with 2 very heavy boxes but the front desk guy was too busy taking photos of a half naked girl who thought she was posing for the paparazzi.   There are 4 elevators but, on a good day, 2 might be working. Hallways and trash rooms are often dirty.  Some tenants just toss their garbage in the garbage room leaving the rest of it to have to step over it to put ours down the garage shoot properly. Parking is a joke.  Management hasn't a clue who they've assigned parking spaces to and even when you're in the correct parking place, don't be surprised if you get a nasty red sticker on your window saying you'll be towed.  Fortunately they're as inept here as everywhere else so they don't really tow your car.  I'm guessing that was their job for the day and the next day it's forgotten about.   Guest parking is even worse so if you plan to have anyone visit, forgot it.  Tenants who don't want to pay for parking park in guest parking.  For months tenants complained there was no where for real guests to park.  Yesterday we received an email that their solution is to turn over the guest parking spaces to the town of Fort Lee and guests will have to pay for parking and can only park there until 10 pm.  It's mind boggling how management thought this was a good solution but, like everything else, it's been farmed out because they don't want to do their job. I am left without explanation how the owners of the building to leave this company in charge of managing their building.  There is absolutely no doubt they've lost good tenants and loads of money.  We're moving as soon as our lease it up and won't look back. read more

WARNING! Think long & hard before you plan to rent here. First off, despite the name, it's far from being Modern. The amenities are poor: you have to provide your own paper if you want to print; they've downgraded the cups and the teas in the "spa" area about 3 times since we've been there; and the technology in the dance room is frequently not working. You're also paying $600 per annum for the amenities but these are often closed off for private events. Forget the shuttle bus, unless you're leaving super early or are returning from work in the city during the rush hour. There's nothing during the day or on weekends. The materials they've used to construct the place are the cheap, budget lines from Hans Grohe & Kohler. The building is not energy efficient or green at all. Prepare for high utility bills as you'll need the heating on full time in the winter, and the AC on constantly in the summer. If you shut off the air then the apartment will develop a musty smell and you'll be advised by the maintenance team to keep it on. Opening windows will barely help, You'll either get insects coming in or all the noise and dust from the construction happening next door. The laminate floor costs $3.50/sqft and if you scratch the floor, which will happen they'll bill you $5/sqft plus some $15/sqft more for labor. They also want you to cover 80% of the floor space with carpet it doesn't help as it will discolour underneath or around the covered area, Because of the light coming in and extreme temp in your apt during the summer. This is how they get to keep your security deposit and bill you some more. Don't bother hanging a tv or pictures as you will have to fill and repaint the whole apartment otherwise you're screwed, Beth will point out that the adjacent walls don't match in color so you might as well paint it all so the next tenant thinks no ones lived there when they move in. When you first do a walk through ask Beth to write anything you're not happy with and get that copy signed by her, otherwise all the previous damage is on you. Get documentation FOR EVERYTHING from them. Management cannot be trusted, Lose a keycard? It's $75 to replace the flimsy piece of plastic. Why is the cost so high? Well, according to Beth they don't replace the cards, they clean them and give them to other new tenants moving in. So, you'll pay above $3K/month for a small one bedroom, plus $200 for parking, plus all the other extras and you'll get a used keycard. The staff is great especially the guys at the front desk, the cleaners, and the maintenance team. The leasing office is nice too but management thinks they're above you and doing you a favor by letting you live there. You've got to remember that you're the one paying a percentage of their salary and the only one way to deal with them is to let them know that. Overall, be very wary of moving at the Modern. There are other, much better options along the Gold Coast. Edgewater, Weehawken, Hoboken all have brand new buildings going up with better public transport options and more diversity than Fort Lee. I had the same experience as Jiayue L below. I lived in the Modern for over two years. Upon moving out, they also charged me for water damage in the closet for 200 dollars as well. This is totally a scam. We kept our apartment pristine. Don't expect to get your full deposit back. We really enjoyed living here the first year but since then things have totally gone downhill. Positives--we loved the concierge and maintenance staff who came right away to fix stuff and were always so helpful. The shuttle service and building location are also excellent. We used to love walking to the shops and Main St. Negatives--the management is super hard to reach and not responsive. Also, since last year we've noticed a decline in the caliber of the tenants and the building is not being maintained properly with a lot of dog poop around the property and urine smell in the garage. There's just a ton of rules with regards to using the amenity deck and having guests over and guest parking is always full which sucks. The elevator is often broken and there's been a few times we've had to run down the stairs in the morning to get to work. The pool is super crowded on the weekends so we barely went. I don't think these things should be happening considering how much you pay to live there. read more

My husband and I lived at The Modern for three years and only moved out because we had had built a new house. From the day we moved in, the staff , especially Karen, was welcoming and professional. We enjoyed every amenity, the gym, free exercise classes, basketball court, pool, and of course dinners with family and friends at the barbecue area. We were lucky to have our adult children living at the building for some of the time that we rented. The building was very well maintained and the views are spectacular. read more

Current resident -- We moved into the Building in Aug 2017, one year is coming up and so far everything was great and we have never had any problems with anything until now. ** so this review is for the Management team only** Bozzuto management took over in December. When the entire team of old management left I was surprised that only Karen stayed and joined Bozzuto. To me, it was a red flag right there. Let me clarify that I've nothing against her personally. My review based solely on her professionalism and customer service skills which she clearly has none of those. So many occasions that I've had to deal with her were unpleasant. And this particular one I had to deal with was beyond rude and obnoxious. The modern is a pet-friendly building and that was part of the reason why we've chosen the building. When we signed the lease, I made sure that I followed all the requirements and policies of the building. I notified the management team that I have a dog and he is my emotional support dog. I have him registered along with the doctor's note to prove. Everything went well. The building and the team approved. We moved in. Fast-forward, today I received an email from Karen regarding of my dog. But instead of asking, she stated that ***" It has come to our attention that you have a dog in your apartment. " *** that email made me feel like I was being accused of hiding my dog and tried not to pay my pet-rent to the building. She claimed that I need to pay the annual fee along with pet-monthly fee without checking my files. Mind you, I have been living in the building almost a year. We walk our dog everyday and all of the staffs know us. If she were to look into those files and lease agreement before she sent that email. It would have been different. That should have been the right way to approach the situation if there were any situation at all?! Instead when I called her, she got all offended and tried to make me feel like a fool not knowing anything when i tried to ask her if she looked into it before she sent that email. She said NO she didn't look and trying to blame the system instead of trying to patch up the situation when clearly it was her mistake and not doing her job correctly. The conversation went on 5 mins back and forth about the management. I was patiently waiting for her to at least acknowledge that it was her mistake and she needs to apologize until she did apologize but those words were so insincere and and just felt like she just tried to brush it off. Clearly, if you don't have customer service skills, you should not have this type of career at all. Extremely impressed with this property. If you have ever wanted the best view of NYC without paying NYC prices this building is it! The views are spectacular and tower over the George Washington Bridge. Amenities galore with a sauna, virtual golf, outdoor basketball, movies out on the lawn with fire pits in the summer. BBQ's, shuttle services into the city, a beautiful venue to hold your private parties on the 5th floor along with a state of the art gym. A great place for families, they also provide play areas inside and out, a movie room to enjoy flicks together, a "tween" room for video gaming. This building is also pet friendly. If you have a chance, call them and check it out. This is a super cool place to live. read more

The moving process is great - you are given tons of information and there is a tenant portal with a document library that you can refer to. My movers said it was really easy to coordinate with the building and get my stuff to my unit. And I am in pretty hardcore love with my new apartment. Great finishes, appliances, and amenities. I love living at The Modern. I have been in Real Estate Development/Property Management for 17+ and I have never seen so much incredible detail go into a rental building. The interior of the units are beautiful, kitchens fully equipped with high-end appliances, the walls bathrooms are tiled each with an accent wall of tile, very spacious floor plans. My unit has the most amazing view of the city, GWB and the Hudson! The amenities are amazing, a 81 foot infinity pool, BBQs, basketball court, gym/spa and resident lounge just to name a few! The private resident shuttle to & from the city makes the commute so easy and the access onto the GWB a breeze. There is a new movie theater (iPic) right across the street. The staff is are fantastic, always helpful and friendly. I absolute love living here.... my best apartment experience by far. read more

I have to agree with the resident review posted below. Although the building is beautiful and the concierge is awesome - when it comes down to it...the rent - it is not worth it. I moved into this apartment in the fall of 2015. Up until my move in date, management was very attentive and helpful. BUT, the very next day after we moved in they seemed to be unavailable. I had emailed them and prior to our move they were very responsive - we waited three days and after three emails still no response. we eventually ended up calling them and they denied getting emails - which is pure bull sh*t! The amenities when accessible are great! We pay $600/yr per unit - but the deck area was closed off for the "winter season" as of November 30th. I know a lot of residents were pretty annoyed about this because we did not have a harsh winter at all. Also, our unit had problems over the winter with our windows freezing over - icicles would form in the inside of our apartment. when it was first checked out - the maintenance said that our windows have a draft coming in and we would definitely need to get them repaired but when management stepped in they said it was our fault and our humidity level was too high. at the time we did use a humidifier at night because it was so dry but even after we discontinued use of the humidifier we had his problem. it was pretty annoying having to wait for the windows to melt and wipe them down every morning when they froze over throughout the winter. although the concierge is awesome - management is just awful. read more

Future residents beware! Management is *extremely* greedy and will nickel and dime you for everything. Did you hang up a picture? Did you actually walk on your floors? Well, it'll cost you. The materials they've used to construct the building are very flimsy so actually living in your apartment means that you'll be damaging it. Our windows leaked in the winter and the apartment was SWELTERING in the summer. If it's 76 degrees outside, expect it to me at least 10 degrees warmer in your apartment because of the sun. It also depends on where you face but regardless, your electric bills will be insane because you'll always have the heat or the air on. If you decide to open a window, then all of your neighbors will know as it will create a wind tunnel effect. You'll pay $200 for parking and you may end up with a crappy spot. Every single one of our neighbors moved out and didn't renew their lease. Too many fees, too many inflexible rules, and too many issues when you're paying a good amount in rent, parking, utilities, and amenities. The one positive is the staff-the maintenance team, the doormen and the cleaners. They are great--very kind, courteous but even they complain about management. If you want to wow your friends with a cool looking building, waste money (literally), deal with rude management and pay a lot for a little, then you should come to the Modern. read more

I had a tour with Gina and she was very professional. My graduation gift to myself is to enjoy the fruits of my labor. So I have been viewing places for the past couple weeks. Some from online and the last couple has been in person. I wanted to stay near the tunnels. Anywhere by the water is good for me. This place turned out to be better than great. From floors 10 and up you can see the city. The deposit is $1000, Fob key, indoor bowling alley, heated pool, sauna, golfing, and a gym. They're offering 6 months free parking as an incentive to sign a lease. Covid amenity fee is $390. All the amenities are accessible during COVID. 24 hour security and parking is $200 a month. I mean what else can you ask for? The further away you look for apartments that offer these amenities you have to factor your commute. The rent is cheaper and the square feet is more further away but the level of professionalism here won me over. read more

As a heads up, many of the original overwhelmingly positive reviews aren't even from residents, just people who saw the building at a Yelp Elite event when the building opened, giving their "expert" opinions. ########## # Positives # ########## - Space: our apartment boasts about twice as much space as our previous apartment in NYC - View: awesome - Condition: very clean and new looking apartments - Appliances: new, and mostly don't break (except our HVAC, which was fixed quickly) - Maintenance: staff are all very friendly, attentive, and professional - Events: sponsored wine/beer, bbq special events, and the occasional food truck that you want to eat at is a plus - Amenities: some are great (and some are not, detailed in the negatives section): a) gym: nice yet it lacks a place to do free bench press with a bar, or deadlifting b) grills: clean and seem to work well this summer, though you have to fight other residents for them in the online reservation system, which isn't a problem if you are proactive in your reservations even during upcoming busy weekends ########### # Negatives # ########### - Price: similarly priced to the city, without the city convenience (which I find expensive and not worth it) - Management Policy Changes & Vibe: as this is a new building, you'll get frequent emails that feel like a babysitter as they craft new rules when someone either abuses them or they don't know a good way to handle it. Ex: now you cant drink red wine in the amenities space at all - simply because they don't want to repair stains/charge at-fault residents - Shuttle To Manhattan: the building likes to advertise it as "10 minutes to the NYC subway." Reality is it's a weekday-only shuttle that drops off in the morning a few times and picks up a few times in the early evening after work for people in NYC. If you expect to use this shuttle to get into the city to check out nightlife, or stay out past 8pm, you'll be taking a NJ transit bus or Uber back ($20+) - Entry Revolving Door: truth be told, the building is in a windy location, so windy in fact that one of the stone tiles on the ground blew up into one of the lobby windows and shattered it. That being said, the revolving lobby door is always shut down (there is a big ugly orange cone in front of it nightly. The staff says that the high winds render it unusable which, while understandable, is unacceptable. Management ended up upgrading the door, and the next day it was broken again. It seems they have given up on fixing it, and have just accepted that they have to put a cone in front of it every day. - Guest Parking: there are very few spaces, and frequently during busy summer days there is not enough parking and management enacts stupid policies to handle the issue - Amenities: they look great when you tour the building, but in reality: a) firepits seem to have been removed from their offering without notifying residents b) the pool: - is very shallow and short, you can't swim laps. - is too small for the building - lacks adequate seating - can be quite annoying with all the kids, during busy times in the summer b) the golf simulator is a gimmick and doesn't work well c) the theater is unusable (no privacy, awkward with staff walking through your show/movie) unless you're paying for a private event - Apartment Water Pressure: pressure in the shower, sink, and fridge dispenser are very disappointingly low (even after taking the water restriction filters out of the lines). Say goodbye to reasonably strong shower pressure, or filling up a glass of water at a reasonable speed from the fridge's filter. (Buy a Brita water filter, and fill it up in the sink). I really underestimated how important this was until we didn't have it in our apartment. My girlfriend really dislikes it. - Apartment Paint: seems to chip at the most minor bumps. I have a feeling the building is going to try and capitalize on this from our security deposit, from reading other recent reviews... - Initial Maintenance Attitude: When moving in, I reported several things as broken, and the super seemed to be grumbling about having to fix them. At one point in conversation, they implied I broke the bathroom door handle by "using it too hard", even though I hadn't even lived there one day yet. Since then though I have had see good attitude and service. - Exorbitant Fees: most of these were glossed over when we were moving in: a) Parking: not included. $200 per car b) Replace lost keycard: $75 c) Pool Visitors: after 2 people free, $10 per person - Location: fort lee is dominated by Asian restaurants it seems, and if you don't have a car/don't want to drive it's a nightmare - very unwalkable IMHO read more

Sadly I am moving out due to a significant change of job location, I had to look at over 15 alternative luxury buildings before finding one that came halfway close. I would wager that most people have never experienced the Modern and they have no idea such a building exists! Reasons why The Modern is amazing and you'll never find anything as good. 1. A free shuttle bus that operates every single work day, each way taking you to Manhattan ! You will never be wet or walking in the snow, since they drop you at the GWB Bus Terminal / A Train which is indoors. You'll only pay for your NYC metro card! 2. Social activities and free happy hours 3. Free yoga classes 4. Gas cookers/ovens in every apartment 5. Oversized fridges with inbuilt water filter and ice on demand 6. Central heating/air 7. Outdoor movie / sports on the lawn and viewable from the grills 10. Amazing infinity pool 11. Large apartments with walk in closets 12. Trees, water fountains, real grass and an amazing lobby. Calming environment. 13. Right next to the best cycling in the NYC area, the palisades. Plus free secured indoor bicycle storage. 14. Nice walkable town with plenty of restaurants and bars 15. Brand new liquor store across the street that has an amazing selection of fine wine, liquor and craft beer all in one store 16. Mini store in the building for the rainy/snowy days 17. Fridges to hold onto your grocery deliveries 18. Excellent package and mailroom system 19. Fantastic gym 20. Need something fixed, just log it into their app and it will be fixed before you come home 21. Nice/friendly people, made so many friends here 75,000 sq feet of amenities. Space! I could go on and on, but you get the picture by now I'm sure. For the people who left bad reviews below: Those people who said they could rent in Manhattan instead for a little bit more $$, absolutely no chance. If you got a warning for parking, you probably should park in your own designated parking bay. Instead of being selfish and taking the guest parking spots. If you are complaining about dog fees, after avoiding paying for them for over a year. I don't know what to say. If you are complaining about the luxury Mercedes shuttle with leather seats, name one other building that even offers this service. You can always try the jitney or public bus elsewhere, see how that goes. read more

This new building is beautiful, and massive. They hosted an Elite Event but I am not going to be reviewing the event just reviewing the building. They house a little over 400 units in the complex. The building is equipped with the latest electronics, from the elevators to the golf simulator. The amenities are top notch, they have a spa for massages, an infinity pool, golf simulator, sauna, spin room, gym, weight room, a puppy and bubbles thing and probably some additional amenities that I am forgetting. They charge a fee and that is per unit and yearly, it is definitely over priced but they really stand alone without competition in the area. The units have high end kitchen finishes, with GE appliances. The closets were large and walk in but were underwhelming and missing some finishing touches. The zone climate control is awesome, and the resident is only responsible for electricity and cable/ internet which is nice since the oven's are gas. The washer and dryers are stacked and do not vent outside but that is typically the case. Bathrooms were okay, nothing really spectacular about them. The units all have floor to ceiling windows and come with custom shades..THANK GOD because custom shades are super pricey and for a rental a huge pain in the butt!! It is a really nice feature to have already installed, I paid a boat load for the ones in my current rental unit and they cost me 1500, so I was really impressed with that here at the Modern. The units I saw were mostly comprised of usable space which is important. The bedrooms and the living rooms were pretty comparable in size. The rent is kind of pricey considering it is Fort Lee, not closer to the tunnels although you are overlooking to GW and Manhattan. I just felt it was overpriced for the area despite the building being so high end. Dawn, the leasing agent, gave us a tour. She was so knowledgeable and energetic it was hard not to want to sign a lease on the spot!! My lease is coming up soon and I would really consider moving here but maybe negotiating on the amenity fee ;) Oh, and parking is additional 200 a month per vehicle and there is a complimentary shuttle that takes you to 175th in Manhattan to the A train that takes you to PA in Times Square. i lived in the Modern for 26 months and loved every bit of it. The amenities are fantastic. the pool area is resort quality and kept very clean....to have a top class gym plus a fitness room with a view is a plus. my favorite was the golf simulator as well. the concierge staff and doormen were top notch, polite and very helpful with any situation 24 hours. Building security was definitely a plus as nobody got into the building via elevator without notification. the management staff were not only courteous and helpful, they really went out of their way if you had any special needs, and were extremely helpful upon my moving out of the building. the walkthrough was very professional and hassle free, even with the floor inspection. i even made some friends that i still keep in touch with til this day. btw, i have relocated over 60 miles away from the Modern, and i miss it. read more

I was just here at a Yelp Event and this place is as top notch as it gets. First off it's a baseball throw away from the GWB. It's in a prime location with a quick outlet to the city. We were on the fifth floor in a conference room of some sort. That alone was beautiful, with huge TVs and a gorgeous full sized pool table. I ventured down the hall from the event with a friend and we found a full size gym, all brand new state of the art equipment. New cars have that smell that everyone knows, I now know what a brand spankin new gym smells like. Outside is a pool, basketball court, playground, and even an area to grill, with 5 grills. There is also a fairly large grass field with a huge TV! Perfect for events like the super bowl, World Cup, etc. On the 4th floor there's a private movie theater and one of those golf simulators. The type where you hit the ball in to a screen and a computer determines how far it would've went. We were permitted a look of one unit on the 24th floor, the view is so awesome. At night I bet it looks amazing with a clear view of the bridge and the skyline. I didn't care for the interior of the unit, it was all white and didn't have the vibe I would want in my apartment, I'm 23, it may be more appealing to an older crowd. This place apparently costs around $5k a month. If you have that kind of money, this place could be yours. Happy to have checked it out. read more

It is no question that the Modern views are amazing. However the building needs improvement. Lately the floors, gym and elevators are dirty. They are not keeping up with the cleaning. For the price you pay in this " luxury" building the place should be spotless. Also many dogs in the building and owners don't pick up after them. The building is honestly going down. read more

She got me into an apt sooner than expected at a better rate. Very easy smooth experience. As per management she was great. The building is clean and well maintained. The amenities as well. And I was not only promptly contacted by Gabriel but I was also very fortunate to have been contacted by such an astute, highly efficient and discerning leasing officer. In the midst of this pandemic, Gabriel, I'm absolutely certain was bombarded by a number of inquiries, requests and so forth. But, there was not a moment in time that Gabriel made me feel as though I was not at the top of his priority list. My wife and I love the Modern. We were captivated by the stunning views as seen through floor to ceiling windows. Further, the apartments are beautifully built out with first rate appliances. The staff and management of the property are courteous, helpful and available whenever required. The indoor amenities include a gym, sauna, workout room and theatre. Outdoors there is a beautiful pool, a huge TV, lounge seating and grilling and in addition an enclosed basketball court, ping pong tables and children's playground. There is an in house valet service - Gold Coast Valet - who performs just about any service from washing your car, to getting groceries, picking up take out and providing limo service. Further, they maintain a small store off the lobby for when you must have ice cream in the middle of the night! The building is elegant without ostentation. We love the Modern. read more

It looks like this is the worst apt building I've ever rented during last 6 years in Jersey City... (Lived in 3 diff locations - Newport, Monaco and Liberty Towers) We moved to this building in Oct 2015 and now just waiting to move out once lease is over. 1. During showing I didn't realize how NOISY in apartment during night - it was ok during a day (south and east direction) 2. Lease doesn't have option to early terminate It was not specified during showing/lease signing. Be careful, they will never tell about it, and if you ask, leasing 'specialist' will assure its not a problem, just discuss with management. 3. Management simply doesn't care about any issues, questions or concerns once you signed lease. 4. Amenities are ok, as regular for any 'luxury' building. I would set -1 star for awful management and lied 'leasing specialist', but cant do it here. Maintenance team and concierge are very good -- 2017 Update -- Finally, in Dec 2016 we moved out Keeping all the statements above unchanged. One more thing: flooring made of extremely cheap bamboo (several $$ per sqf) - it's impossible to not make any scratches during one year of living even if you covered 80% of your apartment by rugs (this % recommended(!) in lease agreement. We were very accurate, covered almost everything, but had one scratch and one 'changed color' spot - it costs more than $250 after move out. read more

Anytime the slightest issue has come about, karen has been there (even on sunday, her day off) to remedy and help. Karen, along with other terrific staff members, make living here easy. I was going to write this review after I moved, when my lease was up but since the problem is STILL occurring, after what seems like the termination of two employees, I'll be doing it now. SJP runs a huge risk by hiring unprofessional, rude, ignorant, and childish employees. I.e. SOME of the doormen/maintenance guys. Unlike the other reviews where the management staff is getting ripped apart and the porters and maintenance staff being praised, my experience is the reverse. (Expect for an email or two not being responded to, management has been cool, aside from from furniture deliveries, I don't deal with them) I on most days, have heard harassing and ignorant comments from SOME of the porters and on occasion the maintenance guys when passing through the lobby. As a resident of The Modern, I value my privacy and as a result of the incompetence of some of the above mentioned, have had my business or what they assume it is, shared with other residents and visitors. Literally it seems like EVERYTIME I walk through the lobby, the conversation becomes about me, (so now discuss this) these individuals seem to lack basic home training and has a result I would not recommend this building to anyone. I've had a maintenance guy enter my apartment, UNANNOUNCED, I did not request anything to be fixed. I've had a doormen, after personally confronting him, continue the harassing behavior and since his resignation it seems like the other porters have adopted the same ignorant and small minded behavior. Now I don't expect much from someone that opens doors for a living, but to harass and berate someone that's been gracious and respectful to you, that same behavior should be returned, especially since that's your job. This review is MY experience, and as the guy said below in "Tips", not to be gay, I would suggest not being gay, bisexual, trans, lesbian or anything of the sort because some of the employees are clearly not trained in basic customer service, let alone luxury, high-end customer service. You would think when your money is apart of how an individual gets paid, they would be at the least respectful, I guess not... read more

The most terrible experience we had with the this condo management. **Future tenants BEWARE** They will never return your security deposit money and will hire their law firm to make you pay more. Many current tenants complain and leave the building after 1 year lease is up. If you don't care about dealing with bad management people and paying more than the security deposit money after the lease is up, this place may be for you. read more

It's a bit annoying to read some of the bad reviews about this building, and I felt like I had to take a moment to offer my own experience. I realize you can't make everyone happy, but saying this building isn't "modern" or luxurious is a bit preposterous. We're approaching two years at The Modern, and the experience has been amazing. The building is luxurious in so many ways, from the high-end lobby, service, and incredible amenities that include a beautiful outdoor pool, several high-end grills, and an outdoor movie screen for the warmer nights. Most importantly, however, the people have been so nice overall. We've made many new friends, the tenants are dog and children friendly, and both the management and the concierge staff have been second to none. We're renewing at the end of this year and look forward to many great times to come. read more

I can't tell you how many belly laughs I've shared with the management team and staff here. Good vibes. Moving to this building was one of my better life decisions and I would highly recommend it. Plus, my puppy likes it here and he's really the one running the show. But seriously, this is quite possibly the nicest apartment building in NJ. The amenities are on point - golf simulator, infinity pool, grill stations, private lawn, basketball court, karaoke room, movie theatre, sauna, gym, spin room and even a dog spa - but it's the staff that really sets this place apart.
