The Cottage Craftsman is an awesome find. You're welcome. ;)…read more Beautiful pieces of pottery were spread throughout the front of the store. Plates, mugs, dishes, and more. If I hadn't been flying home, I would of bought more than just the one dish. I'll be back on my next trip for more. If specialty foods are your thing, then you can also find some treats at The Cottage Craftsman. Cheeses, sauces, syrups, and more. I went home with two syrups made in North Carolina - Ginger Peach and Strawberry Lavender. After touring the Biltmore (because I had to see where Richie Rich was filmed - duh), I was regretting not snagging some wine to take home. Luckily for me, while shopping in Bryson City, I found a few different Biltmore wines at The Cottage Craftsman. I bought a few, including their Christmas at Biltmore Limited Edition to bring home. There are also handmade soaps, jewelry, and other unique items to purchase. If you want to snag some pretty awesome gifts for yourself or someone else, then step on in to The Cottage Craftsman. You'll be happy you did.

Falsely Accused of Theft, Threatened With Police, and Banned From Two Stores…read more Our experience at Hunters and Gatherers in Brevard, NC, was absolutely appalling. We were accused of stealing merchandise by a woman who was a friend of the manager. When she approached us, she said they have camera footage of us stealing stickers, patches and jewelry. She then threatened to call 911. We had not stolen anything, and rather than be intimidated by a false accusation, I called 911 myself and requested that police come to address the situation. What made this experience even more disturbing was that both the woman and the manager appeared intoxicated during the incident. Instead of handling the situation professionally and respectfully, the encounter escalated into an experience that left us feeling humiliated and unfairly treated. Then things went even further. The manager decided that we were no longer welcome at Hunters and Gatherers, and we were trespassed from the property. We were also told that we were trespassed from White Squirrel because the businesses were supposedly sister stores--even though we had never even stepped foot inside White Squirrel. Let that sink in: we were accused of theft, I personally called 911 because we had nothing to hide, and we ultimately found ourselves banned from two businesses, including one we had never visited. If a business suspects theft, there are professional and appropriate ways to handle that concern. Accusations should be based on facts, and customers deserve to be treated with basic dignity and respect. The way this situation unfolded was deeply disappointing and destroyed our confidence in this establishment. Hunters and Gatherers has left us with an experience we will not forget, and not for any good reason. I hope the owners take a serious look at how management handles customer disputes, how accusations are made, and whether personal relationships are influencing decisions that affect customers. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this business. Customers deserve better than being accused of something they say they did not do and then being excluded from a second store they had never entered. I appreciate the respect and courtesy Brevard PD displayed while handling this situation.
