My mother purchased a custom wall bed/sofa from Mod Barn years ago. She worked with Ryan every step of the process from design conception through installation. He was extremely professional, creative, and took great pride in his craft. Mom was overjoyed with Ryan's creation and loved having her grandchildren sleep over on her extremely comfortable space efficient wall bed. The kids loved the "cool" factor of the bed folding down over the plush sofa. Their favorite feature was playing with the remote control to change the recessed colored lighting to fit their mood. Recently, we had a question regarding the wall bed outside of business hours while moving homes. Ryan not only answered our call but was extremely eager to help. My six children who slept on the bed for years are all adults now and we plan to continue using Mod Barn for current and future generations. AVOID THE MOD BARN-UNTRUSTWORTHY AND UNPROFESSIONAL I hired The Mod Barn run by Rye Jester for a project that was quoted at $16,380. I paid a 50% deposit of $8150. Shortly after, due to the fires in Los Angeles, I made the difficult decision to cancel the project and move out of our fire-prone area. Rye Jester agreed to refund the deposit, minus $700 for time he had already spent. That was in January, 2025. As of today, over five months later, I am still waiting on a refund of more than $4000. Despite multiple assurances via email that he would send payments "by the end of the week", he has repeatedly failed to follow through. His pattern of broken promises and delay tactics is extremely unprofessional. I strongly warn any potential customers: do not trust this company. You'll find similar stories in other reviews. In other words, this is not an isolated incident. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, take your business elsewhere. read more

We wanted something simple but quality and The Mod Barn delivered. Everyone we dealt with was professional and friendly. Ryan came during install to make sure everything was going to plan and checked back in after completion to make sure we were 100% satisfied. The installers Serafin and Javier were great. They made sure everything was tidied up at the end of the day so so we could have it space back with ease, and were even kind enough to try and be as quiet as possible during nap time. This review is based on their work from September 2018 to March 2019 and my detailed dispute letter sent to our credit card company. We contracted with them to build a custom wall bed, storage unit and desk. Ryan was very responsive during the planning stages, but during the actual construction he missed multiple appointments and dragged out the work. We had a storage unit built above the wall unit. We told Ryan we wanted to use our own handles which were thicker than what Mod Barn normally uses. He must have forgotten because the hinges on the shelf lift door did not support the weight of the door. Since Ryan was not responding to our issue, I had to contact the hinge company to find out what were the appropriate hinges based on the weight of the door. The hinge company said they do not sell directly to the public, so we went through Mod Barn to purchase them (found out later we could have purchased the hinges through Amazon for A LOT LESS!). The hinges were shipped DIRECTLY to our house and we discovered Ryan mistakenly ordered two sets of hinges instead of one set. Ryan had agreed to cover the cost of installing the new hinges (we were tired of trying to get them to install it). We were charged for three sets of hinges. We didn't get credit for the original set and extra set that we had given back to them. On top of that, we had the invoice of the hinges. It came with shipment. Mod Barn paid $83.67 per part plus $4.99 for shipping. Mod Barn charged us $120 per part and $25 for shipping. We tried to work with Wendy. She claimed that they did not receive the hinges that we returned to them. Also, she wouldn't budge on their 43% and 400% markup on hinge price and shipping costs. That's when we had to go through our credit card company. The credit card company was great. Also the quality of their work is not worth what they charge. Needless to say we would never recommend Mod Barn. read more

I needed a door to cover an alcove in my office. I didn't want a boring closet door, and had fallen in love with barn doors from seeing them on HGTV build shows. The only problem was that I couldn't find a pre-fab one that fit my unique alcove size. A friend recommended The Mod Barn, and the minute I walked in their front door, I was extremely well taken care of. From start to finish, their customer service was amazing. I was really excited to work with this company . There social media looked great. After I got the quote they asked for 50% deposit so I did no problem he said 8to10 weeks and after a month I believe u have to pay another 25% witch I thought was Weird. Just seemed like alot to pay 75% but i did either way that wasn't my issue at all . But they way they worked seem to have a Strict system and I thought that means I would get the best result ? I will Completely honest the Workmanship was good . But Ryan did say 2 days to install so they came Monday and Tuesday after 1pm and still were not done agian not really my issue. They didn't show up until 3 days agian came really late but when done they left tools and dirty everywhere agian that not what got my mad my wife text him pictures and said your guys left a tools and dirt everywhere. He doesn't respond to her text but emails her back I will send someone to clean lol that didn't happen . The owner Ryan carved some time out of his busy schedule on Sunday morning to come to our house to review the space and take measurements. He presented 2 great ideas. We and our realtor chose a vertical 1x8 white washed worn Douglas fir . They came out and installed it. We could not be more happy. Everyone touring our house to purchase it loves the look. Overall, we had a very good experience with Mod Barn. Ryan came out and drew up plans for a custom exterior barn door for our patio. They were very transparent about the current wait time for completion and installation of the door, which we had no problem with. We put down our deposit in early August and then didn't hear anything until mid October and that was because we called to inquire. The work was done with high quality and it took the installers 2 days to complete the installation. All in all the service was good. My only criticism is Mod Barn needs to work on their correspondence with the client during the process and you shouldn't be asking for more payment without showing the Customer the piece first. read more
