    Fish and chips

Visited the other evening with some friends visiting. Some got the fish and chips which were fine, but they were a lot heavier on the breading than fish. Another got the roasted squash and chickpea salad and added steak which they said was delicious. I wouldn't say the service is great. The interior was beautiful and it had a good atmosphere. If I were to go back I would want to go to attend their quiz night or live music night!

My family and I stopped in for dinner, the night we arrived in London. We were staying in the area and was looking for another place, when I crossed The Mitre. After the other spot was unavailable, I lured my group back to this place because the vibe was very comfortable and we needed that after a long trip. We got a big booth in the back for the family and my sister and I decided to try some local drafts from Camden Town Brewery. My aunt went for a glass of wine and my mom, a cider. As a family, we ordered a variety of dishes from the starters menu and entrees. My sister and I both had the soup with the seared scallops, my nephew had a kids burger (which was the same size the regular) and our mother had the fish and chips. My aunt had this beautiful vegetable pie and my cousin - a steak with fries. First night in London and everyone enjoyed their meal at The Mitre. Good find in the Holland Park area.

Lovely Sunday Roast. Got there a little late but they still found room for us. They were sold out of everything but still had some roast beef. It was a great score! Delicious everything.

On my third day in London, my friend and I wanted fish and chips. This restaurant came recommended by one of our bus tour guides, and seemed to be higher quality, which is important to me when eating fish. It did not disappoint. It was not overly busy at that time of night. We were seated immediately. Our server was nice, and our food came out very quickly. It's interesting being from the U.S. and getting an actual filet for fish and chips. The chips were very good, as was the fish, of course. It goes without saying, right? We also got dessert. I had a chocolate delice, and my friend had the sticky toffee. Both were amazing. Mine was incredibly rich and is best described as either a thick fudge, or a chocolate ganache. The hazelnut ice cream was tasty, too. The drawbacks of this place: The chairs sit too high at the table, so our legs were squished, and we couldn't scoot in. Service was sometimes difficult to come by; we had to wait a long time for our bill. Language was a barrier, so one of our servers had to get someone else to explain the dessert to me. Overall, I'd definitely say this place is worth the money; they could just use some improvement in their service department. If I ever visit again, I'd probably go back. Good: Food taste, food quality, environment Less good: chairs/tables, sparse service, language barriers

The sunday roast here is pretty good. The staff is very friendly and the whole pub itself is pretty nice! The food was definitely the high point and will definitely come back here

Slightly underdone, but tasty beef shin risotto

Spacious and relaxed. It's not the most amazing pub in the world but it's pretty pleasant with a good wine selection.

I love this whole stretch of Holland Park Avenue in the fall--so leafy, somehow quiet even though it's a major arterial road.

We specifically came to try fish and chips, so we were lucky that The Mall Tavern was nearby. Each of us ordered fish and chips, and all of our plates were left nearly empty. My goodness, I have never had better fish and chips than here at The Mall Tavern. The fish was crispy, and the chips were perfectly salted to taste. I appreciate that chips in England are more like potato wedges than classic American french fries. Way less fried and way less salty, so you can enjoy the actual taste of the potatoes! I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese that we all shared. I don't know what kind of cheese(s) was used, but it was the perfect starter to our meal. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding for the first time. It was hard not to order another one!! We came in for late lunch, so the restaurant was empty. I assume they are much busier at lunch and dinner time. I also enjoyed the selection of beer while we waited for our food to come out. Next time I'm in London, I'm returning here immediately.

This restaurant was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I ordered the beef roast, and we also shared a side of the creamy cauliflower, which was to die for. I truly cannot sing the praises of this restaurant enough. The service was personable and welcoming, making it easy and comfortable to ask questions and try new things. One of the managers (apologies I don't know her name) checked in on us several times and even encouraged a few of us to try additional menu items. The food came out quickly, and once it arrived, the table went completely silent because we were all too busy enjoying every bite. I highly, highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting London and even the locals. A solid 10/10 experience!

One eventually came to our table after sitting awhile. I of course had to try the fish n chips. A couple of veggie burgers were ordered and a regular burger. Surprisingly happy hour was still on at 8 o'clock so drinks were ordered. The food all came at the same time and everything was cool. The fish had a nice flavor from the fried batter. To me it was similar to Long John Silvers as far as the batter is concerned, but slightly better quality overall. The fries were standard. The only thing horrible was the very bland mashed green peas. They should be omitted from every pub across the country, but I think it is a traditional item included with the fish. The cocktails were good as well as the price. The sticky toffee pudding was something else I was advised to try while in London. I must admit it was really delicious. It came with a scoop of ginger ice cream and a warm buttery toffee sauce to pour over. It was delightfully warm and sweet and paired well with the ice cream. The cake itself was moist enough on its own with notes of brown sugar and molasses. I could have had seconds and thirds of this desert. Yum! The majority of my party didn't think the food was fantastic. The burgers happened to be somewhat alright. This was a first for me having pub food and I would have more again as long as I stick to the basics.

She can set up her own Yelp account if she wants to argue. The service was friendly and helpful (although once the food was served, we didn't see them again. This is kind of normal for UK pubs? I feel like the booze options on Yelp need updating: beer, wine, straight liquor and gin & tonics. Maybe call it Uk pub full bar? No martinis or Moscow mules here.) Our server (south Asian dude, helpful, accommodating, and friendly) was awesome, but so were the other staff (2 nice young ladies of different ethnic ancestry), so basically across the board great service. Weather was great, so we enjoyed people watching from our outdoor seats (Daunt book totes are definitely a thing here. Even when the bookshop in question is closed)
