We were looking for a place to eat dinner late Sunday night and The Mint popped up in our search. Holy crap, it's open till 2:00am every night! It's a bit hidden as it's down a flight of stairs but it's located right beside Taste of Europe. The inside is quite large when you take into consideration their venue space. There was a comedy roast going on ($10.00) which sounded entertaining. Loved the hanging lights as decor and candles at the table. Cute date night spot. They've got weekly specials (Sunday - Thursday). Sunday is select wines above cost (interesting description), shafts and platters. Happy hour is daily from 5:00-7:00pm. - Elderflower mojito ($6.75) - St. Germain, mint, lime and soda. Very minty. Elderflower was pretty subtle. - Charcuterie platter ($13.00 special) - normally, this is $18.00 but it was on special Sunday. Proscuitto, soppressato, aged Manchego, gherkins, crackers and bread. There's supposed to be a red onion jam and dried fruit in this platter but we didn't get any. Instead, we got some Dijon mustard. Platter was enjoyable but definitely overpriced. - Tibetan momos ($8.50) - hand rolled, made in house dumplings with tomato cilantro achar. We opted for the pork momos. These weren't what I was expecting but turned out to be tasty. They are smaller and deep fried but the filling was juicy and flavourful. Pricy for 6 dumplings. Decent spot and interesting that they serve some Nepalese/Himalayan dishes.

I have lived in Victoria a long time and have always wanted to go to The Mint. Well, we chose to go Oct 12, 2015 (yes very old review, posted somewhere else and now here). The menu said Mango drinks were on for $8/drink and all proceeds go to the Earthquake Relief from earlier in the year. My friends and I thought that's a great idea since we wanted to have probably 3-4 drinks each and some food, so may as well have proceeds go to a good cause! Well, we walk down the stairs around 9pm and it's so loud you can't hear even someone yelling next to you, and we're just standing in the doorway, not near the speakers. Sign said please wait to be seated, so we waited. A lady sat us right next to the speakers and the door, so it was chilly and loud. We asked to be moved but she said the other tables required more than 2 people (they were further back and sat 4 people). Admittedly it was pretty busy, but I saw 4 tables open near the back where it was quieter! So we were disappointed and had to end up TEXTING each other to talk for the entire time we were there. I'm sorry but it's a RESTAURANT, not a nightclub. No music should be that loud. We asked for water when we sat down and both ordered a Mango Drink and Samosas to start. The waitress left our drinks sitting on the bar for over 15 mins, despite our best efforts to wave her down like a maniac cause it's not like she could HEAR us. She finally brought us the drinks and water at the same time. In total we waited 25 just for our drinks and just over an hour to get the samosas. The drink was terrible. It tastes NOTHING like mango, and was so strong with alcohol and some weird liquorice flavour that it numbed my mouth. We inquired with the waitress before hand and she said it was a sweet drink. This was not sweet at all. After waiting 15 more mins, finally waived her down and explained it tasted like pure alcohol and liquorice. She took them back and we got our new drinks right away. They tasted the exact same. I sent it back and told her we don't want them they're nothing like how she described, but told her to keep the two drinks on the bill. Finally our samosas arrived and just like the drinks they were overpowered with fennel and some other ingredient that should not be in samosas. They also tasted burnt. I get it's a fusion restaurant but my god it was absolutely terrible. That and the waitress must never have had the samosas or drinks because they tasted nothing like how she described. If you haven't tried it, don't lie, just say you're not sure! She took them back as well after we told her they weren't good and no we don't want anything else, just the bill. She just rolled her eyes at us and mumbled something. Didn't even try to apologize or anything. So now we have a massive headache, are still hungry, and annoyed and to top it off, they didn't give a discount for the samosas. We took one bite and sent it back. I was happy to pay the bill for the drinks though. All in all, customer service was complete SHIT, the food and drinks were terrible and the atmosphere was just as awful! We will never be going there again and I've told all of my friends and coworkers, so they've been avoiding it too. If I could give them 0 stars, I would!

This place was definitely a hidden gem! The place was aromatic and smell so good! The happy hour was really good! And the food was so delicious!

I had high hopes for this place. I really did. It looked good, it seemed fun, but horrible service and horrible food ruined what could have been a good experience. Eat somewhere else. I started off with the chili prawns, which were prawns with a red chili coconut garlic cream sauce. The best part about this dish was the fresh made bread. It was lightly salted, and was great at mopping up the sauce. The shrimp, while cleaned correctly, was overcooked and bordering on rubbery. The waitress dropped off my main (their house specialty butter chicken) while my mouth was full of my last bite of bread, so I couldn't mention anything to her about it. She also couldn't be bothered to refill my drink the whole time I was there. The butter chicken came with jasmin rice, red lentil daal (which is essentially spiced lentils, and mine was yellow) and aloo sandheko (which is a cold potato and veggie salad). First off, I feel they owe the chicken an apology for being wasted. No chicken deserves to have its life taken and used in such a terribly bland way. The waitress said they could do the butter chicken at medium, which is as hot as most people could tolerate. It was barely mild. The sauce itself was one dimensional, and the chicken was bland. The Aloo sandheko could have been tasty, however it was impossible to tell because of all the salt on it. I tried the lentils and spat them out. Disgusting. I don't know what they did to the rice, but it was as if they had cooked it, then left it in a hot pot, and it had dried and turned crunchy on the outside. How do you screw up rice. Waited for the waitress to swing by, she didn't bother to come check on me, or the food, or to pick up my other plate. Paid and left. It was just her and the cook there. No one to complain too. Would not go back, and would recommend everyone to stay away.

Been ordering here almost daily since Covid 19. The staff are so friendly, food is the best take out available by far and always ready on time. More than happy to support An amazing local business! Thanks so much!!!

This place was so cute! Dimmed lights with strung up lights for the ambiance. The service was really great as well! My husband and I came during HH on accident, so they had single shot mojitos for $3, pints of beer for $6, and a handful of appetizers also for $6. (Their HH deals alternate per days of the week - we went on a Saturday.) We got the garlic prawns, which was AMAZING. Also got the chicken pakora, which had tons of flavor, and very tender chicken! The sauce had a small kick, but not too much. Then we shared the butter chicken entree. Thinking about it makes me want to go back! Everything was very flavorful except the pea soup-like substance. That was pretty bland. But overall, really good!

Contemporary Nepalese Asian fusion in a hip, relaxed setting. My parents and I had a great first experience as tourists: friendly service, tasty dishes, cool ambiance. Perfect for a casual date or small get together with colleagues or classmates! Would go back again!

Good place or a dinner date I can give 4.5 stars for their food quality. Bar tenders must improve their customer service skills .

Go to the Mint for great drinks and tapas, but don't bother with the entrees. They make a great mojito.

We are big fans of traditional fare, but the Block is a place we are so glad we experienced and will certainly return utilizing the knowledge we garnered during our first experience. A big thank you to for helping us through picking one price fixe January exploration of your local restaurants and filling it with other ala carte additions. As we often do we ordered far too much food, wanting to explore everything off a menu that is far reaching. Not sure if our additions worked with the price fixe menu, but we sure enjoyed checking everything out. The interior is interesting with the addition of structural steel in the space to keep this heritage building (I think) standing tall for a few generations. We sure hope it's still here for a long while and will most likely come again the next time we are in Victoria. That is saying a lot as there are a wide range of restaurants in the neighbourhood, but you do want to check the Block out!

Iffy service, pretty solid food…read more My family and I weren't feeling any of the nearby restaurants at our hotel. Then we decided to visit the small Chinatown in the Victoria area. To make our 3-hour visit there worth it, we wanted to have dinner here, and I don't regret finding this place; it was awesome eating here! The inside is mildly bright with many tables for seating but it also feels oddly quiet inside given the number of people inside (it was halfway to a full house). You'll also see some wall decorations and figures at the front. Service here was pretty slow; it took 15 minutes for my mom and sis's dishes to come out, and nearly 25 minutes for the first portion of my dish. Sometimes my server was pretty busy to take some of my requests like getting a spoon or the check. As for my food, I got the traditional Crossing the Bridge rice noodles, with the standout items being the Yunnan pork and raw pork for me. My ingredients for this dish came out in 25 min, with the soup and coming out 10 minutes later and the noodles following a couple minutes after that. With the way everything but the noodles were being brought out, I was worried the soup would start getting cold by the time I threw everything else into the soup. Looking past all of that, the whole thing was actually delicious! Soup wasn't sour and instead felt very homely, and the amount of ingredients was perfect. The soup wasn't in any sort of stone pot to keep it really hot, but everything ended up being fully cooked before i started eating. Others things to mention: - We got two orders of wonton soup. These don't include noodles, and the wontons looked pretty bland even though they're actually full of taste. - My mom's zhajiang noodles came in soup, which is definitely a first since I usually see it without. - Portions in general are quite small though they aren't as expensive when looking between CAD and USD. I'll mentally add this place to my list of places to revisit whenever I'm back in Victoria!
