We both ordered the gluten free chocolate cake, and the server asked if we would like ice cream. We said, sure, if it comes with it. The server said ok. Thank goodness we did, because while the cake tasted great, the texture was dry and crumbly. We then got our bill and saw we were each charged $2 for ice cream. Insane. (And the menu did not say there was a charge for a la mode!) So I explained to our server the issue. My boyfriend and I went to happy hour (5-7pm) and were surprised with how much we liked this place! I got a $7 double mojito and he got a $5.50 20oz pint of beer. We got the "Butter Chicken Naan Pizza" and I thought it was AMAZING ($7). It's a small snack for two people, but would have been a good amount for me. Not a normal size pizza- 4 small pieces. But SO GOOD. I loved it! Our server was very nice too! I would recommend this place for $4 single mojitos and $7 double mojitos, and for $7 appetizers during happy hour. Came here last weekend for $3 Mojitos!! They were awesome. Being European its actually hard to find some good cheese and chorizo, but here is the place to come!!! The mint platter was awesome. Hi, Came to Victoria for a business trip. I looked up a place in Yelp and The Mint had 4,5 stars. I had a friend and her 2-year-old child. The nice waitress met us at the back alley to help with the stroller ( the front stairs were high for a stroller). We ordered the trio dip which had olives , hummus and Bruschetta with bread and crackers and all tasted great. In addition, we ordered butter chicken came with rice and potatoes. The atmosphere was nice -despite having a 2- year-old !! All and all everything was great. read more

This is a great spot for late-night drinks and appetizers. A nice selection of tapas-style dishes is complimented by an extensive drink menu. The atmosphere is what makes it, though -- funky, chilled out and nicely lit with plenty of interesting art on the walls. They frequently have live DJs spinning house, dub, downtempo, etc. read more

I have visited the Mint multiple times for dinner and drinks and had an okay experience. The service was fine and the drinks are tasty but the food was mediocre for what they charge. I understand a lot of people like the ambiance at the Mint but i found it extremely dark ( you can barely see your food) and the music is seriously loud. Some people might like that but it is NOT for me. As for the Mint Lunch! i will never ever go there ever again. I order the curry chicken wrap, which i had once in the past, and received by far the WORST food poisoning I have ever experienced. If you are looking for a great dining experience in Victoria, I suggest Tapa Bar or Ferris Oyster Bar. AMAZING! :) read more

Maybe I am spoiled, as most of the reviews here are really good. Yet I am having a tough time loving The Mint. I kinda confused by what The Mint is actually. Service moved at geologic speeds, it was so slow I swear the I could see the beard growing on our server. they do a great Martini and martini selection on Wends for 5$ which if you are going to the mint to get your booze bag on is great, your food bag is another story. We ordered a few dishes a couple were stand out like the Tampanade with Goat Cheese, hell anything with goat cheese is good, but these were soo good, I think I caught my partner in crime licking the plate. The samosas were greasy as hell and had that "I taste like freezer burn and cardboard packaging thing, which leads me to believe that a lot of the food is not freshly made. The Tibetan MoMos were Meh, Meh and how can something look greasy but taste dry? I also ordered the Chorizo Naan Pizza which was small but amazing again with goat cheese woo hoo! For a Himalayaian style joint you would think they would serve Chai tea fresh and ever be proud of it? Nope a tea bag and envelope and pot of water. Also rap style house music turned up at 9pm is not conducive for dining conversation. Overall come for any dish with Goats cheese and maybe a curry, and do not trip when you are walking out staring at the sparkly stairs. read more

We were so happy to find this cool spot that was open LATE on a Sunday night, here in sleepy Victoria. Great, unique cocktails, and delicious appies. Came here to celebrate a birthday with 7 guests. We had to ask for water, which came lukewarm with no ice. Tap water?? Our table of 7 orders a round of Mohito's to start, to find out their made with "golden rum"? When we told our server these weren't Mohito's she said they don't carry white rum in the restaurant??? I proceeded to order the Ocean Wise Prawns, to my surprise the prawns were the size of loonies, very small, but they were tasty. When I asked for salt-and-pepper I received it loose in a to go cup, apparently the only salt-and-pepper shaker they had in the whole place had been broken??? Two of the other guests ordered entrées and when they came there fries were very over cooked so at that point I made the decision not to even order an entrée for myself. My friend ordered The Mint Platter, the cheese was off, the crackers were stale and dried apricots were absolutely disgusting. At this point the entire conversation revolved around the bad food and lack of service. At this point we called the server back over and explained how unhappy we were, I found her to be very aloof and unconcerned, we asked for the manager turns out she was the manager!!! She said we were the only ones in the entire restaurant that had complained and we had a bit of a continued argument with her over the issues we've had during the evening. If you walked by the kitchen,have a look the walls were filthy & the bathrooms not much better with all of the graffiti all over the place. In the end I would probably never go back or recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

once upon a time in the sleepy city of Victoria 'team E&D' needed sustenance at the late hour of 9:00pm. most of their favored hangouts were closing up for the night which left E&D driving aimlessly around downtown shouting out establishments that left them scrunching up their noses and saying 'meh'. And then they remembered THE MINT. With rockstar parking right in front, E&D got out of the jetta chariot with a hop in their step. Skipping through th efront door (ok that was just me) we were happily greeted by the staff and seated in a very busy underground lair of other laid back patrons. The music was pumping and thanks be to some newly added Christmas lights, the lighting was perfect. We couldn't decide on what to eat, so we shared the amazing butter chicken and the curry soup. The butter chicken was tender, moist and not swimming in a sauce that has the layer of oil on the top. Instead it was - of course - made with love. the accoutrements or rice, naan, steamed greens with garlic, carrot-potato-peanut salad and dips were equally outstanding and rounded out the large portion plate for $15. The soup was beautifully crafted with coconut milk and topped with fresh cilantro and peanuts. I could have done without the udon noodles and just a side of naan to dip into the soup instead, but I also could have been too full from the butter chicken to eat all those noodles. A great experience with a fab beer and wine list to boot. You must explore the seediness of Douglas after dark and find THE MINT! read more

We were visiting in Victoria and wanted to try something unique within walking distance. We would gladly travel a distance to visit again! There was a small music club adjoining the dining which made the experience even better. Our server was just wonderful! We had the seafood red curry which was one of the best meals we have had on our long Northwest vacation. The best late night experience!! We got to Venetos too late and the kitchen had already closed down. After a couple of excellent cocktails our waitress suggested the Mint (it is open until 2am). Some of the best DJ music I've ever heard and the food and drinks were amazing!! The butter chicken pizza was soooo good!! The pisco sour was awesome. Love this bar! The ambiance is very cool, I love the platters they serve, and the service is always friendly. Try the samosas and the Greek Platter. The chicken souvlaki, pesto naan pizza, and udon soup with local tofu (some of the best tofu I've had) were all great. Beautiful decor but it was very loud and crowded, even near closing on a Friday night. Might not be the best time for a family dinner, but great for a night out with friends. This restaurant serves a mix of several South East Asian cuisines. They have a nut-burger that comes with a soup. It's very delicious. I also liked the aloo-paalak (spinach, potato and paneer). Admitted, it is not at all close to Indian cuisine, but it was good in its own way. And the good news is that the restaurant is open at least till mid-night. The prices were reasonable. The restaurant is too dark inside, add the fact that it is under-ground. Apart from that, everything about the restaurant was good. read more
