While I spent time commuting to D.C. for business by car and train during the day, upon my return, I was able to enjoy field-view sunsets and quiet nights. The price was reasonable for what was offered and the location enables easy shopping at a few top grocery stores and major hardware stores. The only caveat here is that the public roads approaching the farm have some distinct blind spots, so be careful driving and honk your horn on tight turns. The driveway needs some deep worn areas filled in with stone to make it more level, but otherwise it is very accessible. Also, with so many peaceful and adorable chickens walking about, I couldn't help but smile high. Be sure to get your fill of peace and beauty here!

We arrived late in the season, but what's the efficient number of blackberries and blueberries were still available to pick. We just had to spend a little extra time picking which actually made it a little bit more fun. Wagons are available to pull your buckets so you and the kids don't have to carry them. The signage for the types of blueberries and blackberries and raspberries are adequate. This was my first time going there and we were able to find parking fairly easy because we arrive shortly after they opened. I can see how parking will be a little more difficult during the busy times. Bathrooms are on site that they are a little bit primitive. As a mom, I'm always looking for activities that are engaging, hands-on, and actually worth leaving the house for, and this was one of those places. They offer family-centered activities on Fridays, and this past Friday we did the pig cookie-making class with storytime. It was such a cute idea and very toddler/kid friendly. After the class, they took us to feed the pigs and taught the kids about them, which made it feel both fun and educational. After class, you can choose either a pony ride or a farm animal tour, which I thought was a nice touch. The space has lots of animals and plenty of opportunities for petting and interacting, which my child really enjoyed. And for kids who may not be as interested in the animals, there's also a large play area/park so there's still plenty for them to do. I also really appreciated that there were multiple hand-washing stations throughout the farm, which makes a big difference when you're out with little ones. My main downsides were the bathrooms and food options. I really wish they had traditional bathrooms instead of porta-potties, because that can be especially tricky when you're managing a potty-training toddler. I also wish the concession area had better snack and food options. Overall though, this was a really fun, family-friendly outing and we had a great time.

I really want to like this place and I may end up upgrading this review - see below. I drove there…read morefrom Hunt Valley this morning as my usual butcher isn't open on Sunday. Plus Wegmans doesn't have an actual butcher. I was hunting for a top sirloin roast to prepare in the sous vide. This is a nice gourmet store on the grounds of a local farm that sells beef direct to the public. Their beef is apparently pasture raised and they seem committed to natural methods, no antibiotics, etc. I didn't see any mention of certification of organic practices though. The prices in general seem pretty high but maybe I'm a bit of an old fart in regard to prices. The goods were gourmet shop level. A small jar of gravy for example was $12 and a single brownie was $10.00 I was greeted by a nice kid who was helpful but didn't know the difference between a tip sirloin and a top sirloin. Not surprising. He quickly brought over the owner. She seemed pleasant but a bit rushed and wanting to sell me. I asked if they could cut a Top Sirloin Roast for me. They produce their own beef, butcher it, and sell it in their shop. I asked if the roast could include the cap (picanha) piece. That is a standard way of selling a top roast. The owner said they couldn't sell it that way but she could sell me the coulotte steak. This is the same cut as the Picanha or cap just by a different name. I find this odd. If you sell the sirloin steaks and the cap why not just not cut them and sell the whole thing. Or sell me the steaks uncut without the cap. I'd be happy to order it and come back a few days later. The owner was happy to tell me a story about how much I would like the coulotte and how it was a steal at the price. The problem with a cap steak bought separately from the top roast is that 35% of the cap steak is fat. That pushes the average per pound price of the meat up by 50%. Not a great value but I understand why they'd rather sell it that way. The fat cap is helpful in the cooking process (when roasted) but is usually factored into the total price of the roast. I'm the customer, they are a self producing butcher shop. The reason for me to make the effort to drive to them would be flexibility based on their inherent assets and skill set. Certainly they don't have a price advantage seemingly to me. So I bought the 2-3 pound coulotte steak. If the meat has a superior taste, I'll upgrade this review. But if the price is average, the meat is average, and the flexibility of the product are just average then I'll leave an average score. More importantly, I really want to like this place and I really do want to see their model work. I buy $300+ dollars of beef per month and also other meats. I want to find the butcher that will work with me when I have a creative urge. I'm happy to drive past other sellers (Wegmans, John Brown, Amish market) in hunt Valley and spend at least 2 hours of my time but they need to give me reason. Scott Rifkin, MD
