Though my grandmother used to love and shop at the long closed dundalk location, so I grew up with Santoni's. Oddly enough, if I look out my apartment window, I can see the building where the dundalk store once resided. We needed a pie, because it was pi day. In the past, Jeremy and I have visited much larger, chain grocery stores on pi day, we've come up empty-handed. Santoni's did not disappoint. We got a gorgeous lemon meringue pie, and it was discounted several dollars, which made it all the sweeter. The store is small, but clean with an air about it that suggests that the owners are proud of it. They should be.

Whenever I've asked a question about the menu, the responses have come across as short and dismissive, almost as if I'm inconveniencing them. I understand that working in customer service can be stressful, but a little kindness goes a long way. A friendly greeting, some patience, and a positive attitude would make a big difference and create a much more welcoming experience. The food is worth coming back for, but I hope the staff receives additional customer service training because it would really improve the overall experience.

I ended the meal with the Adjaruli which is a cross between a pizza, dip, and bread bowl. It was the best of all those things! Apparently, I needed to be taught how to eat the Adjaruli because I was trying to cut pizza like slices and dip them into the egg. The waiter corrected me (very politely but emphatically) that I should mix the cheese and egg together, then pull off bits of the outside dough to dip into the center. I was close!

Unfortunately, we skipped asking for some beverages (beyond water) and dessert because we were worried how long it would take. Per a recommendation from our waitress, we tried the Adjapsandali eggplant salad. As good as everything was, this was a memorable part of my meal, and I have a love-hate relationship with eggplant. It reminded me a lot of a Catalan Escalivada - roasted eggplant, onions, and peppers served cold but this had a nice salty-sour dressing with it. Would totally get again. These days its a hunt to find fresh baked peanut butter cookies in the grocery store. I don't get it. I did notice salmon laid out in a refrigerator type container near the front door. It looked like it could have used more ice. I myself would not have purchased that salmon. BUT, they did have mint! Mission success. While I was there, and hungry, I was hoping they had one of those salad bars. They did not so, scratch that idea. But I got what I came for AND peanut butter cookies!
