Stopped by The Mill Coffee & Tea in Lincoln on game day, and even with a line out the door, it was absolutely worth the wait! The shop itself is super cute -- warm, inviting, and filled with that local charm that makes it feel like a true Nebraska staple. I ordered an iced Cortado and some breakfast, and everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The coffee was smooth and balanced, and the food hit the spot perfectly before the game. It did look like they were a bit short-staffed only one barista handling both the register and drinks but he was absolutely crushing it and kept things moving fast. Hopefully next time they'll have a little extra help because the place definitely gets busy! Overall, great vibes, great coffee, and definitely a spot I'd return to next time I'm in Lincoln. And we thought had been to every latte coffee place in Lincoln. Didn't know of the 'The Mill' location. Is on my favorites list now. Lots really nice food options, beans, tea, candy..good stuff. A different frappe we have not had prior, of coffee prep. Excellent. Myself doing honey and Americano. Medium size large cups. Not an issue however. We like. Oh and lots of seating in several different rooms which are unique. And we returned this morning for light breakfast of coffee drinks, same, quiche (was great and 2 variations), and cruffin, which is a sweetened croissant, and a first time for us. I was recently visiting Lincoln, NE for a music festival with my school. While I was here I was able to visit The Mill. The ambiance was really nice and cool inside. They had some coffee accessories for sale to make coffee on your own. They had a good amount of merchandise ranging from clothing, to stickers, to cups, and mugs. The pricing was a little expensive but understandable from a locally owned business. I ordered 6 drinks for me and some of my coworkers and it came out to around $33 which is about the same price as chains such as Starbucks. The service was great, they use an older system of ordering from my memory. You go up and order and then you wait there at the counter for them to make your drinks, then you pay and receive what you ordered. They have a wide variety of coffee and tea options. They also have some food options from burritos to other options. They also have veggie and meat options for all of their food. I enjoyed my experience at the Mill and will definitely be back to try more when I visit NE. read more

I absolutely adore a local coffee shop, and when I lived in Nebraska, I loved to visit the shop downtown, so I'm very happy to see they have expanded and opened another shop! Their granita is something I regularly crave, it's so refreshing and delicious! I also had a piece of their coffee cake, and it was delightful. It seems like all the mills are always busy brewing! This specific mill is spacious, staff is always so kind! Coffee is always hot which is nice and I also got two of their coffee beans; maple pecan and snickerdoodle. I'm throughly impressed as you can really taste the flavor of their coffee. Horrible Mid 30's couple with grandma and 3 kids where allowed to ruin the morning for all other guests. Jumping around in the the window just a feet away from other peoples table. I do have 2 kids and a dog, and no, the where never allowed to behave like this. And yes, I could bring them everywhere. There are no bad kids, just ignorant parents who think they have to be their kids friends. Now to the coffee. It's a week 3/5 Soy latte was just foam. Doppio was too much liquid. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed as soon as the ignorant adults left with their kids. I will give it a second try. read more

The difference between the Mill out west and this one...the barista made it very clear we were an inconvenience to him, after he took our order he never closed out the sale so I just stood there awkwardly while he quickly made our drinks and then once they were done had me pay. The drinks tasted awful, I watched him half steam the milk half shake it to froth up really big and then not measure shots. He only talked to his coworker and was incredibly rude when I tried to engage in some form of conversation. I can say confidently this ruined my experience of The Mill in whole. read more

I'm always so dissatisfied with the mill drinks. My boyfriend loves the cold brew....so we go regularly. I used to be a barista so I constantly crave a flat white or cortado...something pretty typical and standard. They regularly do not know how to do it and I get a full 12 oz cup of steamed milk. I gave up for a while and stuck to cold brew. Then I tried again. They asked what size id like my cappuccino. I said a double?... and they asked small or large? And sure enough I got another full cup. Bonkers! Their matcha is A W F U L :,( Being a partial "tea place" I would expect ceremonial grade matcha at their price point.....whisked and all, ya know? Standard? I thought maybe it would be my new go-to. Wrong. I threw that drink away, sadly, I tried so hard to like it. Maybe their need of expert-less knowledge of steaming me loose leaf tea will be my new go-to drink at The Mill, as all of their espresso drinks will disappoint me, without fail it seems. Call in some trained experts for some training sessions. Or travel to some coffee conventions. Press pause on the clothing and swag production to properly train and build a healthier owner/employee relationship, sink your money into training and coffee knowledge growth. I've been to both locations, but I prefer this one since it tends to be less slammed/more low key and is easier to park near. I LOVE all of the coffee drinks I've tried here- mainly lattes, mochas, and milanos! They've all tasted incredible. I also appreciate that they have almond milk as an option. Can be a little pricy for said specialty drinks, but it is so worth it. There's plenty of seating inside, but get there earlier to grab a spot nearer to the big window overlooking the cute and quaint street of shops it faces. read more

I ordered a latte, which came out very good! Just the right temperature (just a touch too hot to drink) and it was very tasty. docked stars because they served it in a styrofoam cup.....are we at a gas station? Traveling through Lincoln recently, I was looking for a great independent coffee shop. After a false start where I found a coffee roaster - no espresso drinks, the guy behind the counter explained to me - I was directed to The Mill. On the corner of Prescott and 48th, it was directly across from a college where I attended for a year many, many years ago. First impressions were good! The ambiance is great! Students talking seriously together at a grouping of tables, smell of coffee as thick as the humidity in the air outside. My first sign that The Mill hadn't yet reached that next level of really fantastic coffee house was when the barista looked at me quizzically when I ordered a cortado. After explaining what it was, he still didn't seem to understand and after a few more attempts, I just told him to make it and it would be fantastic. Then the second death knell for what had held such promise: the barista pulled out one of the cups (to try and understand how much half & half I wanted)... Styrofoam. Those of you who've read my reviews in the past know that I detest styrofoam. On so many levels! But those who might be reading from this particular establishment I have a message for you. You cannot take a beautiful, deep, multi-layered nectar-of-the-gods drink like coffee and put it into that kind of a receptacle without leaching all manner of nasty chemicals into it completely ruining the flavor and nuance of that coffee! You might as well throw Folgers in some steamed milk and call it good! In that moment, I realized that what should have been a quick stop for coffee was going to take a few minutes longer anyway. I asked for my drink in a ceramic mug so as to not destroy the flavor, but then had to drink it quickly since my kids and two dogs were in the van waiting for me. All in all, a disappointment. Now to be fair, the drink was really, really good! Despite having more steamed milk in it than it should have had, it was delicious! Oh, and the coup de grace. For my two-shot drink with a splash of half and half, they charged me over $4. I don't know where you're from, but for me that's pricey! That they think so highly of their espresso that they charge an arm and a leg, but then put it into Styrofoam? Just makes me shake my head. All alone, the espresso would have gotten this coffee place a five-star rating. Untrained baristas bring it down a little (although with everything else considered I still would have given them five stars). Styrofoam takes it to a two. I just couldn't designate it "A-OK". Nope. Not with Styrofoam. read more

To start, I'd like to mention that I love supporting local places and believe that even though The Mill has its faults, I'd still take it over a Starbucks any day. The space is great, especially with their new addition, which makes it a nice spot to meet with a friend, co-worker, or for students to study. I like that they sometimes have cookies or pastries to sell, although the display cases could use a good cleaning. The coffee itself is okay, but sometimes tastes a bit burnt. The espresso drinks are generally good, but the skill of the baristas vary considerably and this affects drink consistency. Sometimes I'll have a drink and it is rather sweet, while the next time I order the same drink and it tastes overly bitter. As another reviewer mentioned, I also do not like the use of the Styrofoam cups for hot beverages. They will make drinks in your own togo cup though, so that makes it easier to avoid the Styrofoam if you'd prefer. If you order in, they serve both hot and cold in glass, or hot in a ceramic mug. This is what I'd recommend. They do have a great selection of coffees and teas that you can purchase and take home to make yourself. The price is very reasonable and this allows you to make things to your liking. Overall, the mill is the best coffee shop south Lincoln has to offer. With more attention to training and consistency, this could easily be the best in town. read more

My husband and I were on a road trip from Kansas City to California and needed a morning Java stop. I always prefer to find a local coffee place vs Starbucks for quality and I like to support local places. The Mill had a very cool, laid back vibe. Perfect for just hanging with some friends. Service was good. My husband got a peppermint tea which he said was very good. They had a decent/small selection of baked goods. My complaint is with the coffee, it was incredibly weak! When I filled up my cup, I could see straight to the bottom. I can tell it is a good roast, but I would recommend to the staff to make it stronger so that we can taste the roast Seems like a very nice place, but for me, I would probably not come back. I've patronized The Mill regularly for over two decades but seldom over the last few years and only three visits in the last year, sadly today was my very last visit as it was the absolute worst espresso experience of my entire life, even worse than my last two visits where I never would have expected that it could get worse, but indeed it did! The service is nominal but the coffee, where do I start... It's awful, it's was so bad I took two sips and and tossed the latte in the trash where it belonged If you call yourself a coffee shop and you hire people you designate as "Barista's" and you sell espresso drinks at a premium price point well it better be reflected in the coffee, and sadly it's not, not even close, as a matter of fact The Mill should be ashamed of their espresso drinks, it's just that bad! It's sad to experience the demise of what was arguably the best "coffee shop" in Nebraska to a place I can no longer even consider patronizing! read more
