I came for a wedding in March, so it was still cold and wet out. The ceremony was in an upstairs area where the ceiling was completely glass, and made the ceremony perfect for photos. The reception was very pretty, decorated with chandeliers. But it was freezing. I guess since people would be dancing, they kept it colder than normal. The cocktail hour bites were quite nice, lots of vegetarian options and even freshly made pizza. If it were nice outside, hanging out on the patio would have been especially nice, as they had fire pits available. Drinks were strong. The main dinner food was less appetizing than the cocktail hour's food. I ordered the vegetarian option which was vegetables in a puff pastry with tomato sauce. My partner got the chicken, which was slightly rubbery. I heard the salmon was a little dry and the steaks were a bit undercooked. We weren't able to stay for dessert, as it was offered quite late, past 10pm, but the s'mores looked fun! All in all, we enjoyed our night here! read more

The venue is gorgeous and has plenty of photo op areas. From the outdoor ceremony area to the grand staircase, the main hallway and the Skylight ballroom. Our event was held at the Palazzo ballroom, which is the largest of their options. The cocktail hour spread and the food are amazing and delicious. However the main course (somewhat typical for events) was underwhelming. The service overall was good / average. I do recommend this venue for weddings and events. September 5, 2025 I was attending the wedding of my nephew and his beautiful bride! We were excited to arrive at such a lovely venue. After the first 10 minutes, it went downhill due to the uneven large rocks in the garden area for the outside wedding. I took a hard fall after my 1/2 inch heel got stuck between the large pink rocks and hurt my knee, hand and elbow. The staff was helpful through a family advocate that insisted I needed two large bags of ice and a first-aid kit. The family advocate also insisted that they bring me larger band-aids (other than the strips) to protect my bleeding abrasions. A man came out and took my information (name, address, phone and email) and assured me he would write a report. Week of September 8, 2025 When I returned to North Carolina I called back to request a copy of the report. I was told that the manager was out of town and would return tomorrow and give me a call. September 26, 2025 I have NOT received a phone call. It has taken over 2 weeks for my wounds on my knee and elbow to heal. The 'new' pink skin is still tender and sore. Why is there no one to respond to these occurrences? The bride got her heel stuck between the rocks during the rehearsal, and thankfully did not fall. My goal? My husband and I were married in the brand new Empire Room this past weekend and all I can say is future brides, BOOK. THIS. VENUE. We were the first ones married in the newly renovated Empire Room at the Merion and not only was the room breath taking, everyone that works at the Merion is absolutely wonderful. First, I want to highlight our coordinator, Erin. We signed with her a year from our wedding and she was there for us every step of the way. She kept us updated, responded timely and clearly and was just a wonderful person to get to know. I cannot rave about her enough. Ask for her, trust her and don't be afraid to ask questions. She goes above and beyond and she truly makes you feel like the most important person. I'm so thankful for her and our day wouldn't have gone as smooth and as beautiful as it did without her! The food. THE FOOD. You will receive a RIDICULOUS amount of amazing food! The cocktail hour was full of stations came with lots of options. Dinner was absolutely amazing. Even our friends who were vegetarian or vegan raved about their plate. They absolutely make sure every guest regardless of restrictions gets the best they have to offer. Came here for a wedding last night and it was absolutely beautiful! Everything from the garden where the ceremony was held to the cocktail room and ballroom were divine. The cocktail room was decorated with hors d'oeuvres in every corner. I was very impressed with how beautiful the food was set up. Not only was the food presentation beautiful it was also very delicious. There were so many things to choose from that I felt very full once it was time for dinner. This is the best wedding reception I've ever had. The outside has beautiful garden perfect for a ceremony and taking pictures. At the lobby, you will see grand staircase with a beautiful sculpture. At the cocktail area you can find several food stations: Asian, Mexican, pasta, potato and Mac and cheese, lamb. Besides that, there's a big table with assortment of cheese, crackers, fruits, and beautiful carved watermelon. You also can pick more appetizers from the servers who are passing around more food such as lamb chops, spring rolls, dumplings. The ball room is big with gorgeous chandelier. The backyard is also beautiful for taking pictures. The main dinner course starts with salad followed by refreshing sorbet. My entree was branzino, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Dessert is also epic. There are: donuts, chocolate fountain with all of the fixings, cotton candy, pretzel, funnel cake, churros, fried Oreos, s'mores station, varieties of cakes and pastries, milkshakes station, waffles, shaved ice cone, popcorn, tons of selections of candies. Great time at The Merion for a company celebration party! The route to The Merion coming from Philadelphia was a breeze! Pretty simple to get to and finding parking was also struggle free. The venue is pretty large with three floors of different sized event rooms. Upon arrival, there were plenty of individuals on staff helping with ushering us to the event space, guiding where coat check is as well as directing those that would need access to the restrooms. It's well lit and done up in a modern Italian style. There is plenty of open space, high end finishes, ornate detailing, and overall well suited for plenty of affairs. When we were there, there were 4 other parties happening throughout the space! We didn't feel cramped or scrounging for room in the hallways, and the access to bathrooms was plenty - never a line forming! The staff here were really nice and always on top of clearing plates and refilling water glasses. The party was catered by the venue as well, many different hot stations showcasing different cuisines were set up - including Italian, Asian, modern American, a full hors d'oeuvres table, a giant dessert table (my favorite), and two bars inside out event space! I recently went to a charity dinner for Catholic Charities. I attended last years' dinner at the same place. The dinner last year was phenomenal. Sadly, I couldn't say the same this year. They must have a different chef, because I ordered the same dinner as last year (short ribs). The meat was dry with almost no gravy, and the portion was half the size of the previous year. What was worse was the person sitting to my right ordered the same dinner. She had a larger portion with pklenty of gravy, but the meat was so tough it literally coiuld not be cut with the knife! I tried and also couldn't cut it, so it was sent back. By the time she got a new dinner everyone else was finished. What's worse she got the same cut and it was impossible to even cut a small piece off of it. She took it home for her dog! A $130 dinner for a dog! I have been to several events at this place and it deserved more than 5 stars, however, I will not attend this function next year. Attended a wedding reception. This was an amazing venue and establishment. Clearly the appointments, dining room and presentation of amenities were on full display. The parents of the bride and groom spared little when it came to the level of quality in this wedding service. Compliments to the staff and facilities management as well. Everything was so professional. The food was so diverse and fulfilling. Plenty of color in the cusine. The marble flooring, tall walls and ceiling really bring out the colors of the interior. There are other areas for rent so you can be separate from other parties. The small outdoor patio with a concrete flame was a great inclusion. read more

VERY BAD experience with this place as a BRIDE Wedding was in September 2019. As a guest, it might have been very nice. Jolene the wedding specialist offered me a quote with her own handwriting that it will include upgrade entrees for my Saturday wedding. BUT when it was time for food tasting she bluntly refused implying that I didnt understand correctly. Oh I wasn't even offered a food tasting, I was told to come to the vendor display day that happen annually to taste the food. Even I had proof but I got denied what was offered to me 4 times! Until the 5th time where I had to meet with 2 of the 4 venue owners with a GoPro recording the conversation they finally backed down and agreed to offer me what they promised initially. I feel that they are not an honest group of people, they (at least one of the owners) will smile greeting you if they got your money their way otherwise they will walk by you and act like you're not welcome at their property even though you pay them for their service. READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. BE WISE AND KEEP ALL THE PROOFS. Then after all the mess, I asked for a different specialist and was assigned to Nicole. She's nice but communication is beyond poor. Less than 1 month until wedding day but it always took her 5-7 days to respond to my email. That's fine but when it was 2 weeks before wedding day and she took 5 days to respond to my questions, that's unacceptable. I wrote her a numbered list of what to be done on wedding day.....such as LED candles on the steps of the stair case....6pm when guests were already arriving, I did not see those candles. I asked and was told they ran out of candles to do that for me. Really?!!! I don't mind bringing my own but they offered and that's what happened on wedding day. After so much hassle and tears from anger, they finally got some candles out but it was too late! Guests already arrived and in the cocktail room, who's going to see the candles at that time of night? So be wise and BEWARE of how these people do business. read more

**posting this on yelp because I noticed my google review has ZERO views and it's almost been a year, meaning the Merion is clearly hiding their negative google reviews** **also important for you to note that most of their good reviews are from guests that attended, as you'll see in my review that I say the people actually working the wedding the day/night of are amazing.** I got married at the Merion in September 2022. I will say that the staff that worked my wedding on the actual day/night were amazing and attentive and are a huge part of what keeps the Merion running. My one piece of advice to anyone that chooses this venue for their wedding would be to make sure that the person you're working with reads your emails properly and you constantly follow up with them to ensure all your needs are met. I worked with Stephanie who I felt like was more attentive in the beginning, but got more and more careless as it got closer to my wedding (maybe because everything was paid for already at this point) which resulted in multiple issues that were a direct result of not paying attention to emails, including demanding $500 cash from my parents as they arrived to the reception and refused to take credit card or a check mailed later. Stephanie threatened to not allow us to use the projector, which was discussed 3 separate times through email but she ignored. Stephanie and the partners have yet to address any of our concerns or even just apologize. It definitely feels as though the Merion doesn't actually care about its clients and they think their "sh*t don't stank" and that's not the feeling you want on your wedding day. read more

I attended a large wedding at this location. They offer valet parking. The inside is beautifully decorated. The ceremony was well coordinated and lasted about 30 mins. There was an hour and a half allotted for the cocktail hour. The appetizers were so delicious. The newly weds decided on: a seafood, pasta, potatoes, taco, pizza and cheese stations. Everyone was escorted into the main dining hall where each table was uniquely decorated. There was multiple open bars (the drinks were tasty). The staff were informative and picked up items quickly. For dinner I requested the stuffed flounder w/ crab meat; it came with rice and broccoli. The fish was mushy which was a bit disappointing and I wish it was just mine but everyone's plate at my table was the same. They offered an array of desserts which included: pretzels, snow cones, funnel cakes, muffins, cheesecakes, cannolis, and other assortments. My daughter attended a prom at the Merion on 5/21/2022 and was struck in the head by a 3" crystal that fell from a chandelier. The following Monday (5/23/2022) she had a progressively worsening headache so I took her to the ER for a CT scan to rule out a brain bleed and/or skull fracture. I contacted the general manager of the Merion (Mr. Cliff Miller) about the incident. He informed me that he would reimburse me in the amount of $100 for the medical bill I received as a result of her injury. When i didn't receive the reimbursement I exchanged multiple emails with Mr. Miller and I even emailed the owner Bill Diamantakos. To date, I have not received the money. BUT I was completely turned off by the a particular bartender during the cocktail hour, at the main bar, inside of the cocktail room- and I'm being very specific so someone can find out who he is from the Merion and tell him about himself. It was an open bar, it was all top shelf liquor, my gf who got married made sure she had the best of the best for her wedding (mostly all seafood apps) and this grumpy man decided not to serve me a patron on the rocks, but on top of that he had the nerve to tell me "we have 5 hours left." I don't know if he was have a horrible day and was thinking out loud but that was my 2nd drink and I was really offended and almost pissed. Idc how many hours we have left at the wedding- Which ever catering company he belongs to need to remind him that he serves as told. I was not slurring, drunk, or rude, in fact I've been a bartender for over 6 years and pretty know the ins and outs. I can't say one bad thing about this catering hall or its staff they deserve 7 stars for being top notch. I will definitely do an event here in the future. I didn't get to take pictures of the food, but there was a phenomenal spread from roasted which most people at my table enjoyed, to the chicken, and salmon which was delicious and flavorful. The cheese and appetizers when I first entered were good also but I would have benefited from labels. Miss Debbie was my tables waitress and she deserves the highest tip available because she went above and beyond the call of duty! She's one the reasons your facility shined that beautiful Friday night. On the way out while waiting for the cars several people from my party got hot dogs on the way out. Let me start off by saying that this was an amazing venue for any special occasion. I was in the Skylight ballroom for a wedding. The food spread was incredible anything you could think of was available during the cocktail hour. Complete with a cheesesteak station. The service was very nice. Our server was very attentive and assured that we had everything we needed to have a pleasant dining experience. With that said, you may be wondering why my review provides only a 2-star rating. To answer that, I have to bring you the day after the wedding, when myself and all other persons sitting at my table came down with a terrible gastrointestinal bug. I find it quite disturbing, that a place that was serving food to thousands of people a year, cannot get their staff to follow basic hand hygiene properly. I like this place. It is fancy and I am hard pressed to find anything wrong with it. I have been to many events here, both weddings and small conventions. The Chef (Chef George) is approachable, willing to help and just makes things happen. The owner, I believe his name is Billy, is also highly involved with all of the events that I have had the pleasure of attending or assisting with making happen. They run a tight ship, managing a large staff and a large complex. The food has been universally good, 7-8 times I have been there and the staff has always been helpful and pleasant to me and my freinds. I would recommend this venue to anyone for weddings or for more intimate conventions. The parking is plentiful and even if you need more space there are lots not far away that can be accessed via a shuttle bus, if you choose to hire one. read more

This review is based on a work training, all-day event. First thing I need to discuss is that parking is a joke. A few hundred cars were parked in the lot and I believe there is only one exit. I was warned to get there early to park, and if not, to park across the street instead. I didn't listen, guy there late, and parked near the back. Although I was one of the first to get out, it took me 20 minutes to just get out of the lot. A parking lot that size should definitely have more than one exit. As far as the facility, it is huge with many rooms. Majority of the meeting was in a very large room, then we all split up into a few different rooms for lunch. It's a beautiful place and can imagine weddings being lovely here. However, it was freezing for most of the day. The last hour, they cranked up the heat and became too warm. Seats were somewhat uncomfortable with the back of the seats being too upright. Bathrooms were clean. Food, I thought was delicious! Service was good, but our waitress was little strange; explained the chicken to have "some kind of apple topping" and she refilled the water very sloppily. It was also odd how the cheesecake was already on the tables with the salad when we sat down. Not our waitress fault, as it was done the same way in the other tables and other rooms. Luckily, my chicken was cooked. Unfortunately, 2 people at my table had chicken not cooked thoroughly... Not sure if others had the same problem or if they even noticed since the rooms we went into was dimly lit. I hope they do better for weddings. read more

You can tell that they care about making each wedding special. As for food: I loved the appetizers. In particular, the Chinese station stood out among the rest. Of course when it comes to your child you want the best. This past Sunday was my oldest sons wedding held at the Merion. Our female hostess Jo was beyond awesome and guided us through the ceremony. Because this venue offers it all. My son was married, photographed, fed and entertained all provided by the Merion. One of the owners Vincent was very pleasant and professional. He even went behind the bar and fixed us a drink. The food was delicious and the portions were nice. The photographer was down to earth and well organized. The bartenders were on their game, and Ms. Tracey who was running the reception was attentive to our needs and very nice to work with. All in all this is simply a no brainer. Went with my cousin to view this venue for her wedding at it is absolutely beautiful, very clean has that curb eye appeal we were looking for and the ballroom is breathtaking has a small terrace attached which is really most of the other venues didn't have that easily accessible to the ballroom. Offers alot for the price, ask for different days if your not set on a date the price varies significantly on sundays. After closing down for some major renovations, The Merion reopened a year or so ago with a complete makeover of its former self. This is definitely NOT the same Merion that my junior and senior proms took place in. The dark and dated interior has been replaced with ivory and gold, marble fixtures and a spiral staircase. There are four main ballrooms. I was surprised to find out that they are not all cookie cutter versions of each other like so many other places. Each room was constructed with its own unique layout and design. The food and service at a recent wedding I attended were impeccable. Everything was perfectly in sync with the usual wedding traditions like speeches, dances, etc. Because of this, the dinner didn't take over the entire evening like they so often do at weddings. Dessert was set up in an adjoining room with the bar, and it was the most fantastic display of cakes, pastries and other confections that I have ever seen at an upscale event. If you are considering hosting an event at The Merion, start saving, but know that your guests will be raving about the experience and comparing all other events to it for a long time. read more

This was my first NJ wedding and it definitely did not disappoint. The building is the only nice one in a pretty run down looking neighborhood and the inside is even nicer. It's very ornate with lots of marble, chandeliers, fish tanks, floral carpet and dark wood. The ceremony room was a little tight and didn't have enough seats for the late comers, but I suppose that's not their fault. The reception room was gorgeous. The room they had was upstairs and had a huge skylight dome. It was decorated in hues of ivory and gold and so elegant. The cocktail hour room/bar are right off of it and in shades of maroon and dark wood. The cocktail hour was very impressive with a LOT of food. There was antipasti, calamari, pastas, a carving station, asian foods and mashed potato bar in addition to other butlered hors d'oeuvres like chicken cordon bleu bites and lamb chops. I honestly think they put more into the cocktail hour food than they do the main courses. Not that the dinner was bad, but the cocktail food was just so impressive. Perhaps it was the quantity. Ditto with the dessert stations! There was a chocolate fountain accompanied by a tropical fruit dipper tree (see pic), an ice cream sundae station, waffles and silver dollar pancakes with toppings, mini creme brulees, cannolis, assorted pies/cakes/pastries and extras for your drinks like chocolate shots and rock candy stirrers. This is easily the worst wedding hall I've ever been to in my life. I've been to two weddings here. I kept my restraint after the first one since I didn't want to judge the place based on one bad experience. But now I can't hold back. This place is terrible. I would not book this place for a wedding even if it was free. Just horrible. Let's start with cocktail hour. The seafood all tastes spoiled. No I'm not talking poor quality. I'm talking spoiled. The lobster does not taste anything like lobster. I never spit food out and I couldn't help but spit out the cocktail shrimp. The oysters and clams on the half shell are a recipe for food poisoning. I did not try the scallops but by the account of those who did it was no better. The roasted lamb was very gamy and I like lamb of all sorts and eat game meat! Pastas were over cooked. Marinated artichokes were flavorless. I mean it struck out on every level. The dinner service was equally bad outside of maybe the Italian wedding soup although even the meatballs in that were gag worthy. The pear salad was edible but that's about all I can say. The sorbet was too sugary for a palate cleanser. The filet was tough and the meats flavor was unpleasant. I'm not expecting prime filet but I would bet my life this was not USDA choice quality and I highly doubt it was even select. The mash potatoes were blended with fried onions which left the onions soggy and the potatoes with the taste and smell of oxidized onions. The steak sauce did nothing to elevate the pain as it too was off in flavor. Was a waste of calories. I tried to get decaf coffee to wash the filthy taste out and the staff told me its in one of two coffee dispensers but they don't know which. I said no thanks to the caffeine Russian roulette. The service staff was pleasant but frankly poorly trained. They leave finished food on your table too long. Poor your drink and serve your from the wrong side. Just a mess. The downstairs room is much nicer for cocktail hour than upstairs. However the main hall is long and narrow as is the dance floor making for very awkward interactions. How do I even begin?! My wedding was on Friday, December 8, 2017, and I have been procrastinating writing this review, because every time I sit down to write it, I feel so incredibly overwhelmed with emotion! My wedding day was HANDS DOWN the absolute BEST day of my entire life thus far, and I have THE MERION to thank for this! I worked with ALYSSA Dettorre, and she went ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure we had the most perfect day possible! From the moment I walked inside to tour the venue I got chills and goosebumps all over: I just KNEW it was special, but I was so afraid it would be too expensive. Then we sat down with Alyssa to go over the menu and pricing, and I was blown away by how affordable it is compared to similar venues, however we still did our due diligence in comparing venues: The Merion won out in every aspect each time! It is simply THE BEST event venue in all of South Jersey and Philadelphia area! They are beyond willing to accommodate your every need and desire, and they really care about making your biggests dreams a reality! They offer SO MUCH! Their cocktail hour menu is INCREDIBLE, their sit down dinner is equally incredible, all of the surprises they include for the bride and groom the day of the wedding...the list just goes on and on and on! I could shout from the mountain tops for the rest of my life how awesome this wedding venue is, and it still wouldn't be enough!!! Do yourself a favor and check this place out, because I promise you won't regret it. They are not just another wedding venue: they are in the business of making peoples DREAMS come TRUE, and they excel at it.
