What a great little community merc! I needed something minor and stopped in. They had a small butcher area, growler beer fill up, lots of beer options and great grocery store products. Well new owners finally took over The Merc in the last six months or so and it's pretty much back to the old Merc before the terrible owners had it for a couple years and it went downhill. It's well stocked it's pretty much the same as the Merc in the old days. There's a pizza place in the same complex and those are the guys that bought the Merc and those are the guys that bought the Merc So they have a vested interest in making it succeed. I think they're well on their way. read more

Since the ownership changed. The selves are bare , hardly any inventory, no freezer food. Freezer system is out of service. Barely any fresh vegetables. Really a-shame that the place has gone so far down hill in last couple years. They seem to have tobacco and liquor and wine. No ice lately no bread. Few canned goods. Over all it looks like they are trying to close! Was a great little Market and the only one in placitas. Wishing the new owner much more success. We need you here. Please get it together! read more

The Merc is the best! Placitas would be lost without it. They care about the community, and are service-oriented. They have water in the back for 50 cents a gallon, which is very convenient for those of us who struggle with our wells. They have all the basics, and considering it's a small convenience store, the prices are reasonable. Don't expect large grocery store prices, on the whole, but you may be surprised. They have fresh bread, good local beer on tap, and yummy homemade food like chili. I wish the produce was more seasonal, but otherwise, a great place to feel welcome and taken care of. read more

Super convenient for Placitas residents. Good hours and friendly service. If you spend over $100 dollars remember to save your receipt for a discount on your next visit! Local vibes. Def not a tourist spot.... but if you're passing through Placitas it's a great place to pick up almost anything you need. Selections aren't huge but it's definitely good enough. They have a decent deli and make their own deli goodies such as guacamole, salsa, and macaroni salad. Nice wine selection. Liquor selection is fine too. An easy stop for Placitas residents needing to pick up some fresh/missing items after big grocery haul. Produce and meat selection is slim but very fresh and delicious..... maybe stock up basic supplies at a big box type store and come here for the missing or fresh / Produce items. Bought some Steaks here to grill with the family and they were priced fairly and very tasty and fresh. I just wouldn't want to shop here for ALL my goods, as there is some , inevitable, up charging on select items due to the massive convenience factor. Still a five star review because this place is exactly what it's supposed to be . Also for the record , the scenery is beautiful. read more

This little market keeps Placitas stocked in the basic staples one would expect from a grocery. What the place lacks in size, it makes up for in specialty items, high end options, to order organic produce boxes from Los Poblanos, and an amazing selections of wine! Speaking of which, they host Friday night wine tastings that are hopping. Many of the staff have been there a long time and are very friendly. read more

I have been a resident of Placitas for 35 years. I live near the village. I called into the store and asked if there was a way that I could tell what beer is in stock. The person (female voice) who answered curtly said to me "I dont have time for that you will need to come in "click" . Very rude. FYI - Customer Service? This is a small community and I try to support local businesses if they support me. With smaller stores competing against big box stores good customer service goes a long way and will even encourage locals to come in and spend more, even higher mark-up. Too bad for the new generation of employees and managers that feel the customer owes them or they dont like where they work or a sense of entitlement, maybe looking for that $15. per hour wage who knows. Maybe better that the employee who might have been too busy to tell me no way to check on-line or I'm the only one here and cant go back right now you can see what we have on-line and take a chance coming in to see what we have in stock or give me your number and I will call back when things slow down. The Merc is a grocer that has a limited amount but fairly vast array of things you may need like vegetables, beer/wine/alcohol and pantry products. You are going to pay 15% or more over the big box grocers, but then you don't have to drive double the distance to get to them when you are in the mountains. Produce is hit or miss. Some of the vegetables look great and some look like they hit their shelf life last week. Wines. One of my biggest gripes with places that sell wine is they have wines that have been recommended with a rating of 89% or 91% for example. Every single recommended card under the wine is for a wine that is three or more years younger than the wine in display. One wine year might be great, but the next year could be swill. Overall, The Merc is convenient if you are in the mountains and only need a few things. If you are in need of serious grocery shopping, you'll get more for your money by driving the extra 6 to 10 miles into town. read more

Small town grocery store, with a better than expected selection. Full liquor, and beer and wine for sale. Expect to pay more than you would in town! Decent selection of goods, and meats. The dog biscuit selection was unexpected- though I do not currently have a dog. The prepared food, cakes, and baked goods looked underwhelming. Just in quality, and presentation. They do have a deli counter, and stock boars head meats, and cheese- yea!!!! Maybe it is four stars. It just did not make me super excited. If I had been camping for a few days, and found this (like when we were in Utah)- I would have lost it. There is really no, hot food here, from what I saw. Cold sandwiches, could still be amazing. I do not know why it says full bar on yelp. You cannot drink on premise!!! That is wrong info. This is not a restaurant. This is a grocery store, and a total different liquor license. I don't know if the business was posted in the restaurant category, but this should be corrected. read more

We bought 2 Sandwiches ( Ham and Cheese) at the Merc today.... They were the worst Sandwiches we ever had. I was given the choice of tomatoes, lettuce, Onions e.t.c.I ordered all of it and received none.They are renovating and put the sandwiches in a box - so we discovered that we were cheated on our way to Santa Fe! I'm not sure why people from out of town would be leaving ratings for a small independent grocery in the foothills of the Sandia mountains. Whatever, people like to complain about anything and everything. Fact is for those of us who live IN the foothills - Placitas NM to be exact, this place is a godsend. There is no way a small store like this can compete with larger chains on price and they shouldn't. I am new to the area but I'm willing to bet some residents will drive 30 minutes to a Smith's to save $20.00 on a bag of groceries, driving right by their home town gem. When you DO have last minute needs or a bottle of wine etc I'm sure all will praise this stores location. Think about that the next time you head down to Rio Rancho for a gallon of milk. (Ice cream will never make it back as a solid) I plan to use this store often and hope other locals do as well so that they stay around forever! read more
