I frequently find myself referring to locations according to their proximity to a fro-yo or ice cream shop, and I plan my errands around nearby Yogurberry's or TCBY's. Anyways, this is at least my fifth summer vacationing in St. George Island, FL, and I've always felt like my frozen treat options here were lacking. There's Aunt Ebby's, which is somewhat similar to Bruster's, but in a more divey, beach town environment. It's popular, but I crave healthier options like fat free soft serve or sugar free italian ice after a long day on the beach. Upon arriving for this summer's adventure in St. George, my family immediately spotted a new cute wooden hut advertising shaved ice. It was about 6 p.m., and they were closed, but we vowed to stop by the next day. We did, and it was glorious. There were at least 30 flavors, and 4 were sugar free. The green apple was delicious, and service was friendly. At $4 a pop, it ain't cheap, but I'm happy to support the local small beach town businesses. We asked what time they usually close, and we were told about 4:30 or 5 p.m. every day. Based on this experience alone, my review would've had a higher rating. However, we returned the next day around 3:30, and it was closed. With parched throats, we sadly drove back to our beach house. We returned again today at 3 p.m., and it was closed... again. Every day we've been here, the weather has been perfectly hot and sunny, and plenty of people have been out and about. I don't get it. Along with shaved ice flavors like pink lemonade, root beer, watermelon, passion fruit, and tangerine, Island Ice offers hot dogs and chili dogs.... when they're actually open, of course. I like to play hard-to-get sometimes, but not when it comes to food.

I wanted a little ice crem and a little Italian ice - and this is exactly what I got! My portion was just right to top off the meal I had just eaten. I ordered vanilla soft serve with sugar free Italian ice, which was very good (jelati). My daughter ordered the Orea mud pie jelati. We both enjoyed our treats and will plan to return. Of note, there was a bit of a wait because only one person was working the counter and there was a line. But we weren't in a rush, so it was not a problem.

It's the perfect hangout spot in the 'burbs of northeast Tallahassee and we grabbed a quick sweet treat after dinner. I don't know if it's just me but I found the menu super confusing as a first time Jeremiah's customer. I pieced together the menu and the various combo/layer-in options to finally order the small Scoop Froggy Frog (mint chocolate chip) gelati swirl with mini chocolate chips. It was a lot bigger than I expected for a small - which was a pleasant surprise. We brought our dogs so we sat at one of a few tables outside while munching on our treats. Will definitely be back to try the Italian Ices next time!

We ate outside on the deck. Started with cup shrimp etoufee - scoop of piping hot white rice covered with a nice New Orleans sauce. Shrimp were plentiful and tender. I could have eaten a pail of it. Maybe some other day. We wanted to try a couple of sandwiches knowing that we would taking some leftovers home for dinner.. Started with the shrimp poor boy - the small one, cut in half. It was loaded with lightly battered shrimp, lettuce and tomato on a superb crusty bun. Sandwich looked good and tasted even better. It wasn't inexpensive but it had great value for the money. We also tried the mufalata sandwich. Again, the small one. It was a monster. Cut in 4, it still was huge. Seasoned ham sliced super thin with cheese on a fantastic crusty roll. There might have been a couple of other meats on the sandwich. It was too good to dissect for details. The olive dressing was excellent, I would have liked more of it on the sandwich. This sandwich was again very pricey, but had good value. Our food was brought to us by a friendly young man who was very good at sharing the details of the menu. Sadly, we didn't try the beignets.. Super dooper highly recommend without any reservations. Would eat there weekly if we lived in the area. Need to try the gumbo and jambalaya.

It was good with plenty of quality ham and olive tapenade. However, it lacked Mortadella and the proper Emmental-provolone cheese blend, feeling more like a ham and cheese sandwich with a little salami, than the cohesive, harmonious Muffulettas from NOLA. It was solid but not the same. Next time I think I'll give one of the Po-boys sandwiches a try.
