Unfortunately the Sobeys closest to me at Hurontario and Mayfield is a sorry excuse for a grocery store. They are always out of sale items. The staff is 90% indifferent teenagers. Out of date items are a common occurrence. The meat department is like an afterthought and they like to hide bad cuts of meat through dishonest practices. Their multi packs of meat always have one or two good cuts and then a horrible piece added in. Sometimes they hide the bad side of a steak by putting it face down in the package with only the good side showing. They have even used price labels to hide fat and gristle. Items like ice cream always seem like they have been defrosted and then frozen again. An employee once told me they are considered a "B" class store and other bigger and more important stores get priority over them. With so many good grocery stores in our area there is no need for me to patronize this Sobeys and I have heard the same thing from many other people in our neighbourhood. If you value your hard earned money and expect considerate service and quality products try the Metro or Food Basics just a few minutes away.

I ordered Amritsari fish pakoda, shahi paneer, kadai chicken, chicken biryani and butter naan. It's a very busy location, it took almost 30 minutes to get my food. They had 5 people working at front, they can do a better job with efficiency and throughput. Anyways the food is really good and fresh. Fish pakoda is one of the best in GTA. I ended up buying tandoori and spicy chicken legs and thighs, lemon chicken which was de-boned thighs, as well as lamb chops. Unless you've already been immersed in north Indian food, you're probably like me just going to go on the assumption that it will taste good as there's no detailed list of ingredients for the marinades. They all ended up being great with perhaps the lemon chicken a notch lower as it didn't seem to BBQ as well (though the staff said it would be good that way). Could just be a preference thing. The lamb was my favorite and in spite of not knowing what it was marinated with, it was fantastic. Really great food, and makes life easy to have marinated meats. I shop at Fortinos because it's close and I appreciate the quality even though I know I am paying more. Attention must be given by management to ensuring that dry goods are routinely checked and expired items removed from the shelves. One of the items I found on the shelf had a expiry date of MARCH 2022 which is more than 2.5 years past! This was a disappointing experience.
