Creative approach to hot dogs. They offered a variety of unconventional toppings ranging from wasabi to guacamole to mac and cheese, and all their combinations had amusing puns in the names too. I tried a soy Piggly Wiggly, which was a soy hot dog topped with mac and cheese and barbeque pulled pork. They were generous with the toppings, but the downside was that a lot of it was falling out and the meal became pretty messy. At $7, the Piggly Wiggly was one of the more expensive things on the menu. While it was one of the better hot dogs I've had, I wish it was a bit more filling or at least came with a side. read more

Fixings and presentation aside, is still a hot dog. Looks better than it tastes and I must have got the, sleepy time crew. I don't even remember being greeted upon entry and my 4 dogs didn't look anything like the pictures people are posting. Check the post of the dogs I got. $6 -$7 for a hot dog with fancy cheese wizz is way out of line. $4 for soggy tater tots, also out of line. 4 dogs and some tater totskis for $35? I stopped by this place based on name alone. Fortunately they also have good hot dogs. I had two dogs and although I felt the price was pretty steep for the quality of the dog and bun, I liked the interesting presentations and toppings. This place looks and feels like you are waking into a big food truck. Overall, I was happy with my experience and would go back to try more of their offerings. Peace and love. read more

Love local businesses venturing out, love conceptually-sound food trucks, love when the owners actually work the trucks and are friendly. MW catered a work event in Troy this afternoon, coworkers and I were thoroughly pleased. Very cool menu, with items to fit every taste/budget. From chili dogs to their November special, all was well received and quickly prepared. I got the monthly special 'Give Thanks' Dog, which was a turkey dog on a standard bun, topped with mashed potatoes, gravy, tasty stuffing, and cranberry relish. Edit: I went back in today and everything was great! When I went to update my review I saw that they had sent me a message about my previous visit, apologizing for the mixup and offering to comp my next order, which speaks volumes about their customer service. I opted not to take advantage of their offer because I really like their food and I think it's worth the money. Original:I really appreciate them having vegetarian hot dogs, because as a vegetarian I know how hard it is to find them. The two stars are for offering vegetarian options, unfortunately ordering them is sloppy and confusing, because there is an option on the menu for a soy hotdog with any toppings instead of a line saying that they can substitute a regular hotdog for a vegetarian one. For example, I ordered a "soy guacin' the dog" and got a plain soy hotdog because their menu is weird, so in order to get what I wanted id have to say that I wanted a "soya wanna hot dog guacin' the dog"? The line was enormous. Not sure if it was inefficient, but it didn't move swiftly. The choices seemed interesting. But for the cost, the hot dog really should have been better. They were thick, but I think maybe boiled. I don't know how they would have worked a grill into that mix so the hot dogs were more flavorful, but if you are going to sell a boiled hot dog, you better really wow with the toppings. The Good Drove by this place and was intrigued by the Mean Weenie sign which is hilarious! The decor inside is simple but cool, the chalk board walls are a nice touch and it was nice a clean. I'm so torn. First off, I loved how into it the truck seemed to be in Mt. Clemens during the Pokemon GO event I was at -- each dog was renamed to be a Pokemon. I tried the Moltres (a special that isn't normally on the menu) and the Dragonite (the one on their menu with guacamole and Dorito dust among other things)... I wasn't impressed. First, the bad... the Dragonite just wasn't very enjoyable, and almost off-putting because of the textures. Most disappointing about The Mean Weenie is their lack of casing on their dogs, and it was super evident on the Dragonite dog I had. The cold, hefty amount of avocado on my dog with the warm, squishy hot dog was a not-so-pleasant combination. The flavor itself was in itself pretty mediocre, and the primarily flavor was avocado... there was just too much of it. The Doritos on top were so finely ground and minimally added that I hardly noticed it was there in terms of flavor and texture. The Moltres was a decent bit better -- jalapenos, bacon, some sort of sriracha sauce... my kinda dog. Again though, the skinless dog just sort of left me a bit disappointed. Went this past weekend for lunch at the new store location in Troy. We weren't greeted at all upon entering and there is no way anyone could have missed us, this place is tiny...maybe four small tables inside, and two picnic tables on the lawn out front. The girl behind the counter stared at us as we stared at the menu trying to decide, I finally broke the ice saying hello to her, and I did get a hi back...but absolutely no customer service. A guy wearing an apron was taking cell phone pictures of the wall beside us. We finally decided (I think we both secretly wanted to run far away, but stuck it out.) We spent nearly $30 on two hot dogs, two faygo cans, a side if tater tots, and a bag of better made chips!!! When the food arrived the guy wearing the apron delivered it...and mentioned something about how great they look and started taking photos of our hot dogs...weirrd....we asked if he was the owner and bingo! The Mean Weenie crew was at Kensington church today for the volunteer appreciation lunchon. They served Dearborn Frank's with Brown's Bakery buns. Their coney sauce was super hot and tasty. Also available were all the trimmings including cheese sauce and jalapeños . What a nice change from the usual punch and cookie fare. Tried the Ch'Poodle and a side of beans. The hot dog was very good, the right amount of heat (not too much, but you will notice it). The cilantro and avocado give a nice fresh feel to a standard chili dog. Less impressed with the side of beans, tasted like they a lot of garlic. It's disappointing that I have to give them such a low rating, because my first two visits were great. However, my third visit resulted in a very different product than I had received with my first two. During my first two visits, I received a hot dog creation that was basically an entire meal placed on top of a hot dog. The toppings filled the container. However, my third visit produced a small hot dog with just a tiny amount of toppings. And the price was the same as the first two times. $7 for a hot dog. I had the Guacin' the Dog and it was okay. The ingredients were fresh and the guys working the food truck were friendly and efficient. My food came out quickly. The Mean Weenie food truck was at an office function last week, which is how I was able to try their food. The description of the hot dog made it sound delicious, but all I could taste was guacamole and they could have put half the amount of guacamole on the dog that I received. I have had better guacamole and some of it fell on the pavement because there was too much. The dog had some chipotle notes, some cheese, and some crunchy chips on top, but the toppings were overpowered by the sub-par guacamole. The frank by itself was pretty bland and the bun wasn't anything special. All in all, I think the Guacin' the Dog is a great idea, but the execution was just okay. read more

I find it hard to believe that all these people give this such high reviews. Hot dogs are small. The hot dogs definitely didn't taste like all beef hot dogs. They use a cheap quality bun. The toppings like Mac n cheese or pulled pork were not good. The hot dogs and the toppings on top were luke warm. I swear a hot dog from Costco or SAMs club is better then this place. When you factor in the price of the hot dog, the quality, and the bad flavor I won't be back. Went to the new location on livernois in Troy. I was excited to try a new hot dog place. I ordered the Mac Dog. It was very dry. I thought the cheese would act like a moist topping. However the cheese was very clumpy. Hot dog was nothing special. The bun was not even steamed. Not even soft. I also got to spend $6 on one hot dog. Crazy expensive. I don't understand how a plain hot dog is $2.50. And then I got the privilege to spend $3.50 for max and cheese topping. I will have to try a different dog if I go back. Go down the street to Hippos and a get a excellent dog at a much better price. The place is very small, not much seating. Only Faygo for drinks at $1.50 a can.
