    Lunch break
    Alessandra R.

Came here for my lunch break. The place was pretty empty. Nothing special about the ambiance. This is Guatemalan style food; It sucked they don't have birria tacos on the menu, so I ordered chicken tacos instead. It took 30 mins for me to receive it, but at least it's fresh. The chicken could have been juicier. A little salty but at least it had flavor. I'm a fan of the corn tortilla. They could have been more generous with the cilantro. And it only came with one sauce, salsa verde. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. I had better.

Didn't realize that portions were so big...

(Delivery review) I was craving Mexican food but my go-to is closed on Sundays. I decided to try something new and based my decision on the fact that Maya has tamales (if you read my reviews, I'm always after places with tamales haha). While scrolling through the menu, I was surprised by the cheap prices (and noticed some things were cheaper on Grubhub vs the online menu on their actual website). My fiancé and I decided to dabble in quite a few things...well, by my photo, 20 menu items. We thought that portions were small because of the $2-3 menu prices. Well to our surprise when delivery arrived a few minutes early, we may have gone overboard. The portions were HUGE. To my surprise (and boy, what a great surprise), the tamales were massive! Everything tasted SO good and I'm proud of myself for branching out and trying new flavors (I'm not a huge Guatemalan food fan but I tried some anyways). I loved every item that we purchased. I'm excited to know that Maya will now be on our list of take out places.

Was recommend this place by a friend which was great because it had Guatemalan dishes which my family is from. So decided to check out the spots. The parking situation is a bit weird they have a parking lot behind but there are residential parking spots so you kind of have to read the signs that tell you where to park and cannot park. You have the option to sit inside or outside. Sitting outside is nice but there were a bunch of bugs flying around and for some reason a lot of birds were attracted to the spot. But the. Menu has a great selection of food ranging from Guatemalan, Mexican, Peruvian which was interesting. I couldn't decide what to get so I got the burrito. It was an okay burrito. Nothing special. They had seafood which was I was told was not great. And the enchiladas were decent. What really was great was that they had Gallo which is the best Guatemalan beer. Probably the only thing that was exciting about this spot in my opinion. I would try it out again but try the other foods that they have.

    Shady shady!

The most expensive nachos I have ever eaten. If you are non Hispanic they will stick u with a price. I did not want meat on my nachos, quack instead, this is what they charge for substitution! And manager doesn't even speak English, I left really really unhappy.

This is probably my favorite latin restaurant in Stamford. Service is great, wait staff is attentive. Food is GREAT large portions, very tasty. Additionally the kitchen accommodated our requests (green sauce, pico on the side). The best part is the food is fairly prices for the amount you get. Very clean and a bakery inside.

Free chips and salsa... best served with a cold beer

So everyone has an off night. 1st. Hubby wanted a particular steak dish. Waitress said it came with rice salad and sausage thing... it came with plantains and eggs neither he wanted. No salad and no beans. Ok. I ordered a pupusa and an entree of fried chicken... the pupusa came out. Cheese but no chichacrone (sp?) Just flecks of what could be meat... Fried chicken???? Didn't show up. First time my entree anywhere went MIA. Like seriously. Service is usually hit and miss... today was a miss. Ladies are always nice and friendly when they're waved down. I give them credit, they were busy running around making drinks (no bartender) taking orders and so forth. Normally I'm laid back chill and can laugh off little crap when it comes to service but FUCK no food and no service... 20 minutes wait for a check to leave... Honestly we won't come back for a sit down meal. Takeout yes... maybe.... if I'm craving a pupusa but then again there's other places to buy one... Waitstaff needs to touch tables. It's rule 101.

The Maya is hands down the best restaurant in the area. The lomo saltado with the aji sauce is a must try. I cannot wait to go back.

As many times as I've been here I never thought to write a review. Well that changes today!…read more Decor Clean, dim, fairly small/intimate. It's not so small that you can't move around but during peak hours you may be shoulder to shoulder with another party. BUT if you get there at a decent time you should be good with space. Service Everyone is friendly, attentive, and very accommodating. No complaints here. Food No exaggeration, but I can't remember a time when I had a bad order or something that I wouldn't order again. Here are some of my favorite items: Chaufa - fried rice with your choice of protein. Anything from chicken, pork, fish, and steak. They have it all...and it's all good! Fish Chunks - lightly fried, crispy, seasoned perfectly! Lomos - if you're looking for a hearty meal that will either put you to bed (IMMEDIATELY!) or provide you with a leftover meal for the next day...this is it. I highly recommend upgrading to the Cadillac Lomo which uses filet cuts of steak *chefs kiss* Half or Whole Chicken - if you're looking for something simple. Perfectly seasoned, crispy where it needs to be, and not a dry piece to be found! I'll get that with a side of veggies (which are banging) and I'm straight. Pisco Sour - let me say that the sangrias are good but the Pisco Sour is my 100% go to. I can't even really describe it but trust me...it's good! That's all for my recommendations but honestly I don't think you can make a bad pick even if you don't choose something I detailed above. Also, if you decide to dine in they bring you the warm toasted bread with that Aji Sauce that might as well be liquid gold! Misc. Acuario is consistent with great service and an Aji sauce that will change your life. Until next time...

"Some lunches surprise you. Others quietly raise your standards."…read more We came to Acuario for Restaurant Week, and it felt like one of those rare moments where value and quality meet without compromise. For starters, we had the tostones and the Papa Yuca appetizer. The tostones were crisp and golden with a soft center, paired with salsa criolla and garlic sauce that added brightness and depth. The Papa Yuca was comforting and rich, coated in a creamy sauce that felt balanced rather than heavy. Both dishes tasted intentional, not like scaled back lunch specials. They also brought complimentary bread with aji verde, and that sauce deserves its own recognition. Fresh, herb forward, and slightly spicy, it was incredibly addictive and elevated everything it touched. For the main, we ordered the lomo saltado, and it easily stood out. The beef was tender, the onions and tomatoes were sautéed just right, and the sauce carried bold flavor without overwhelming the plate. The fries held their texture under the sauce, and the rice brought everything together. It may honestly be the best lomo saltado in Stamford. Service was warm and attentive. Even during Restaurant Week, we never felt rushed. Staff checked in thoughtfully and kept the experience smooth from start to finish. The ambiance added to the experience. The space feels welcoming and lively without being chaotic. It has a comfortable neighborhood energy, the kind of place where you can enjoy a relaxed lunch but still feel like you are somewhere special. Acuario delivered on food, service, and atmosphere. Five stars without hesitation.
