The cafe space is no longer in use by the coffee cafe but this library still has a lot going for it. There are multiple meeting/ community rooms and reading lounges. The children's library is huge and every librarian that I spoke with was so helpful and nice. Desks, tables and armchairs are all over the place. It's wonderful here.

My visit started out fine. A kind employee helped me locate a pencil sharpener. However, around…read more4:30 pm today, an EMS crew with a stretcher hovered around a woman sitting at a computer. She hadn't been bothering anyone, making sounds, or causing any issues. She was just sitting there. They proceeded to ask her questions about how she was feeling, what day it was, etc. She was talking coherently but the three EMS employees and a library employee had her circled for at least 15 minutes after taking her vitals and wouldn't leave her alone. Obviously I don't know what happened. But I saw them wheel her into the ambulance. Beware if you're having an off day, or act a little eccentric. You may end up taking a thousands-of-dollars little ride if you don't answer questions to someone else's liking. Disturbing and uncalled for.

There is so much information about what led up to the battle and who fought at this site as well as its place in the Civil War timeline. This is the site of the first Union general killed in action as well as the first Civil War battle that took place West of the Mississippi River. I did the Junior Ranger packet to obtain my free badge and watched the film. I chatted so long with Ranger Clayton Hanson about the Civil War and racism that his colleagues had to basically kick us out because they had the gate to the gift shop already down! It's great to chat with rangers who are passionate about their post. There was no entrance fee at this site. Visited December 2024

The library is spacious and well designed with a dedicated teen area and there's also a children's library and a separate reading "room". For those who need them, there are plenty of computers throughout. I love the library and so far, have been to libraries in 6 different states and I'm so impressed and pleased with Springfield's library designs, so much valuable space for public use and all of the programs offered.

Soreness aside, this sculpture is just my way of saying, "Look around, absorb the wonder of it all, and check your feet in here at the corner." I've taken computer classes there, been coached in the use of their 3-D printer, and assembled important papers via their printer, scanner and Fax machines. Time and again their helpful staff has aided in finding and assembling the research and grant information that I need - To top it all off, the Midtown Library has a Community Refrigerator with free fresh food !
