Came here for their Murder Mystery dinner show. Food was really good and catered to my dietary needs. The show was cheesy fun :)

Window is dented and would not shut upon checkin, we were cold our whole stay

Huge Disappointment for such a good looking hotel, but as our trip proved... looks can be deceiving. It all started with the initial purchase of the hotel. Before I clicked submit, it was brought to my attention that it would be a good idea to stay at a hotel that had complimentary parking, to avoid the issues with street parking. So I called the hotel and was told by a sweet women, that there was complimentary Valet. So with that information, I was sold, and I booked the reservation. Fast forward to the check in, I went to get the car parked by them and they wanted to charge $75+ (per night), something which was not discussed over the phone and also something the valet person commented on as well saying "the prices are steep here for sure". Of course their hospitality was completely off, because when I brought up the information I was told about parking on the phone (to the front desk), they just stared, and were like "yeah, anyways". So we found a wonderful lot full of nice people right around the corner (not associated with the hotel at all). Now the parking attendants at the other place definitely knew what hospitality was. But, we are talking about the hotel and its staff now. Anyways, cut to the check - in, they asked for a card for incidentals, from a weds night check in to saturday morning check out it was a $225 deposit charge, (completely fine, but I did ask if there were any other charges that I should be aware of on my card, and he said no, so I trusted him, regardless of what happened with the parking situation, I thought "new face, fresh leaf" Nope, and you will find out why at the end. Anyways, the horror story keeps going...we had a lot of bags, yet their concierge didn't even offer to help, you just have to grab a cart and haul the stuff yourself. By the way, none of them smile, they just stare at you and look like they want to die or maybe they were homophobic, because that is what they came across as being, must be a horrible working environment too. We get up to the room and they didn't even leave a light on for check - in, completely pitch black in the room, so you have to spend time trying to find a switch to get some light (I don't frequent Motel 6, but at least they keep the light on for you!)... Anyways, the pictures below will show you everything you need to know. But just so you know there were stains everywhere (walls, curtains, carpets), spiderwebs in the corner of the room, the headboard was mickey moused to the wall and had screws hanging off of it, the mirror had scratch marks all on the bottom, and the bed sheet (or duvet, if that's what they want to call it) was torn. It was a sight not wanted to see upon checking in and waking up to... just to find more issues. The faucet alone sounded like a ship docking everytime you turned it on (like a horn blowing, it rattled the bathroom everytime it was flowing water), it felt like we were waking up the whole neighborhood. Once we realized our fate with the hotel, we decided, let us just enjoy the city, and forget about this (4-star hotel, they say it on their website or wherever, but from the looks and feel of the hotel, as well as their reviews on yelp... they probably buy their stars) Well we checked out on saturday and drove back to los angeles. By the time I got home, I was charged $119 on my card, for a destination fee... $35-$39 a day. What a joke! (especially because they guy at check in originally said that I would not be charged any other fees. Just a simple bate and switch situation. I feel like the destination fee is what you pay (for the room), hence a hotel being in the destination you wanted to be at "on vacation" I have never heard of a destination's destination charge... I've heard of a resort fee, but honey, this was no resort. This was my boyfriends first time in San Francisco, and this was embarrassing and mortifying in all aspects of the words. Anyways, enjoy the pictures, and just know that the stains, tears, smudges, scratches, and sounds are all included in your destination charge.

BEWARE: IF YOU HAVE A BAD STAY HERE, YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY BACK. Although this hotel is technically four-star and has beautiful design and decor (quite frankly, the only reason why it gets a second star), I was very disappointed with my stay due to the lack of attention to detail in all aspects. To start, when I finally fully uncovered my sheets after getting ready for bed (after my initial bed bug inspection I always do when I first arrive), I felt uneasy finding a hair that was not mine in-between the sheets. It looked like it had been there a while first. Because it was late, I decided to sleep on top of the comforter for the night and call the next morning for replacements while I'm out for the day. The next morning before I left my room, I tried to call the front desk 4 times in 15 minutes, and did not get an answer a single time. A couple hours later, I was able to call again to politely let the front desk know about the sheets, and respectfully ask for new ones. I was granted new ones, but was not provided any remorse, sympathy, or even acknowledgement of my situation. Although it wasn't their fault, it's definitely not mine either. Later that night, I wanted to use the hotel's fitness room (the only amenity making this hotel 4-star, btw), and was disappointed yet again to find that the cable machine had no clips to attach handlebars! I wanted to use the Pelaton they had since I missed mine at home, but it wasn't even activated! Both issues made both machines practically useless, respectively. The hotel restaurant was closed for dinner BOTH nights I stayed here as well. Everything aforementioned in addition to the weird writing hidden in the bathroom wallpaper in my room, the poor location of the hotel, the VERY expensive parking the hotel has contracted with, lack of pool/spa/coffee shop, and more not mentioned made the resort fee a joke. I definitely think you're better off staying a couple blocks in a better direction at Parc 55 or even something in the Marina. EDIT: After providing the Marker with my stay and contact information, the Director of Rooms at the Marker emailed me to follow-up on the claims I made in my initial post. Although acknowledgement was made to the lack of quality of my stay AND changes were made due to address issues to the hotel I, as a guest, pointed out (mentioned explicitly by DoR), I was not provided any refund for: my room that did not meet expectations set by the Marker, the resort fee for the "resort" with missing or dysfunctional fitness equipment and no pool/spq, AND/OR the extra $70 I paid for parking. You're better off spending your money at a place with more customer-centered business practices that commits to promises they make.

Nice little treats and a hand written note.

I'm surprised this hotel doesn't have more stars. Truth be told, the neighborhood could use a lot of work. But when you pull up the hotel (it's on the left side of the one way street), you feel a bit comforted! Beautiful flowers are hanging and surround the entrance and a valet stand reassures me that I can hop out of the car and check in. The check in process was simple and the gentleman helping me was fast and efficient. When I hopped on the elevator I quickly realized that I needed my room key to get up to the floor I was staying on. Nice safety feature. However, when I was leaving I forgot my key in my room and had to walk down 5 flights of stairs with my luggage and maneuver my way throw the area in the back by the kitchen for the restaurant. Not a big deal but not fun and somewhat scary. One thing I found particularly awesome was the free margarita in my fridge and candied walnuts and another little treat. The room and bathroom were perfect size and very clean! It's about 25-30 min to SFO and about 20 to the Chase Center.

They turned one of San Francisco's most beautiful restaurants into a colorless conference room. I can't imagine the mindset of someone who would willingly lower a ceiling by 10 feet, but I also couldn't have previous imagine how interior design could be so dull and soulless yet also simultaneously tacky. The whole thing is painted shades of gray now, with all the creativity of a house flipper. It's hard to believe that the before and after in this photo of the same room, but they are; the bottom photo is just taken facing 90° to the left. I can't believe I care enough about this to write a review, but some crimes of interior design are just that egregious. I just can't believe someone chose to remove a beautiful space from the city in favor of... this.

Beware of Hidden Fees!!! Is $94 a night for a 4.5 star hotel in downtown San Francisco too good to be true? No, but beware of the hidden fees. Hotel was beautiful, the rooms were as advertised. Had a modern Harry Potter sitting room that was gorgeous. A sit in fireplace in the rear of the lobby with a magical ambiance. The restaurant (Tratto) was a overall nice and classy Italian vibe. Too bad I found out the workers added a tip for themselves after my takeout order. The hotel fees includes tax for $94. /night and parking was an additional $75 a night for valet or $45 in the alley garage in the street next to the hotel. Room may come with a credit but there was only a few food menu items for $25. There was also a destination fee of $35 which if you are not careful you could be charged twice. The advertised $94 a night hotel turned into $150 at the desk in which they eventually billed me for total charges of $171. All in all would I stay here again? Not on purpose when there are so many other reasonable options near by. Sticking with my Marriott Bonvoy loyalty from now on at least I know what I'm getting ahead of my stay with no surprises.

Hesitant when booking anything in San Francisco but was pleasantly surprised with this choice. The front desk clerk was very helpful on the telephone prior to booking. We were guided to a convenient parking garage next door ($35.00). The outside of building was lite up blue when we arrived giving it a modern feel. The lobby was beautiful with two big sitting areas and an amazing fireplace. The staff was friendly and opened the secured door for us every time we went in and out. The room was on the smaller side but clean. The bed was just okay comfort wise but the pillows (4 per bed) were good quality. We ate at the restaurant downstairs. Food was decent and not too $$. The hotel sits right on the edge of good and bad like pretty much any hotel near Union Square. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone trying to decide where to stay near Union Square.

Our weekend in the city and this was our choice of hotel. Mixed review for me. So I'll give the details and forget the story on this one. Easy enough to find, stopped on the white curb to unload and checked in. We parked in the Mason St. garage. About two blocks away $76 for two nights. The hotel is on the corner pretty good length of white curb to unload. Its an old building but has been fixed up very nicely. Restaurant on premises. Seventh floor, a small room, it was okay. AC worked well, bathroom newish and clean. Good towels too. Through the stay the walls we're talking all the time & most of the night. Old pipes constantly rattling and banging with air locks in the system. Guess what? the friggin water out of the shower was a problem. The first morning no hot water, barely warm, we called maintenance he was up in ten minutes. He fiddled with the control and dialed in more hot water, okay that worked. Second morning shower water scalding hot, no way to turn it colder. Called maintenance...fixed All of the staff were helpful and friendly but that didn't fix the inconvenience, readjusting our timing, waa waa waa. Since we were out okaying most of the day it was all okay with the hotel, a bit pricy for the overall experience. There are plenty of hotels in this city, we won't be staying at this one next time. Amazing staff , extremely inviting. The location and atmosphere was very comfortable. Yes; the amenities & lack of valet was a little disappointing, but still very pleased with everything else. Thank you for an excellent experience.

My sister and I decided to stay here for a staycation and it was perfect. The hotel is beautiful. So many things that bring it to life like the staircase, the old fireplace the high back sofas and the lounge area that looks like a library. The staff was also very nice and helpful. We booked the corner suite for the soaking tub and we were not disappointed. The main bed and pull out were comfy and the area was quiet. We live in Oakland so the homelessness that is around wasn't a bother because it wasn't too bad and what city isn't faced with that crisis right now. We wanted to try the restaurant inside the hotel but missed breakfast. My suggestion make sure to get up early. The French toast sounded good. We weren't far from the pier or the ferry terminal so there is plenty to do in the area and lots of restaurants just get out and explore. Also around the corner is cityscape skybar so beautiful! My only con was DO NOT book through third party websites. I paid in full but at check out still had a small fee that wasn't collected at no fault of the hotel but I should have read the itsy fine print lol. Other than that it's a great place to go for a night by yourself or staycation with a friend or spouse. Definitely will be going back. This hotel is a true GEM and looking forward to it.

    Beautiful Large Room and fireplace.

The check-in process was smooth. The front desk was very helpful in getting us in and filling out a card authorization form. We were surprised by the valet price however - $90 is definitely high. There is no self parking but the prices for the lots nearby are just as high, if not higher for overnight. We really enjoyed our room. It is definitely not the most spacious but felt quite luxurious. We booked a double queen room and were placed in Rm 920. There was limited walking space around the ends of the beds and desk. There was a beautiful view of the courtyard and city. I love that the room was very well-lit. There is ambient lighting and brighter lights you can turn on next to the beds. My friends and I loved the window that separated the bathroom from the sleeping space. It was quite comical and made getting ready for a night out very fun. There blinds for both the bathroom window and outside window were motorized which was a nice touch. The beds were pretty comfortable but nothing too special - I appreciate them having a bunch of pillows. The mini fridge and coffee bar felt pretty luxe and were much fancier than those are other hotels I've stayed at. There were plenty of outlets throughout the room and next to the beds. The whole vibe of the hotel feels very sleek and modern. The hallways are lit with a ambient blue. The inside of the elevators are themed which is super cute for pics. The gym is very nice too, loaded with more than your typical treadmill and elliptical. The lobby felt clean and had little robot things scooting around that apparently are used for room service. I would definitely stay here again so I can explore what I didn't get to see on my short stay!

Absolutely horrible experience--please note that staying here comes with hidden costs!…read more I was looking forward to staying here because of the location and cheap price; $80/night in SF over the weekend is definitely a hard find. However, from the very beginning to end ranged from confusion, annoyance, to plain nightmare. The check in process was confusing and and cumbersome. I was given no check in information, and there was no front desk. The intercom at the front door did not even work, and I had to call their actual "front desk" who apparently said they did not have my information on file and made me go through these annoying steps just to find my hotel room key in a lock box. The most frustrating and nightmarish experience came the next day when I lost the hotel room key (a physical key). I called the "front desk" several times but received no answer then finally got one after about 10 minutes. When I told the man at the "front desk," he told that he would have to speak to the housekeeper. After waiting for another 10 minutes, he informed me that I would be getting fined $200 for the lost room key, which is plain ridiculous, since they didn't have a replacement key (other than the housekeeper's key). I understand a $25 or $50 fee for a lost key but $200 for a freaking key???! After waiting for about 40 minutes total, he finally walked over with my replacement key and begged me not to lose it since that would mean the housekeeper can't even get in (how laughable). What's worse was that the other guests were able to use their phone or a passcode to get in since all the room had e-locks. When I asked the man at the "front desk" why I needed a physical key, he said that not all of the e-locks were working--including the one for my room. What a load BS. A horribly dingy hotel that can't even get its most basic sh*t together. Stay at this incompetently run hotel at your own risk or better yet find much better options.

Amazing Service. Good Value. Butler Service…read more I came to the Bay Area for a relative's 80th birthday and booked The St. Regis because it was the only Forbes Five-Star rated hotel in San Francisco. I'm usually hesitant to stay at American hotel chains' "luxury products" because they often just feel like Marriotts with nicer tile (most new Ritz-Carltons, for example). I found the St. Regis to actually offer the kind of luxury service that is often missing in American hotels. I arrived fairly early, around 11:00 a.m., and the staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating both an early check-in and late check-out, along with a room upgrade. Prior to this stay, I didn't really understand the purpose of butler service, but they were kind enough to gift-wrap the presents for the birthday party I was attending while I booked a massage and walked around the city. The spa at the St. Regis is fairly large, with an indoor heated pool (well designed), a gender-separated steam room (out of order during my visit), and a sauna. I will say the spa could use an expansion or renovation. The "relaxation room" felt a bit like a repurposed salt room, and the men's lounge basically just had tea and snacks. The massage itself was great, and everyone there was extremely friendly. What really impressed me was the service. I casually asked whether they had bath salts available for use in my room, and within 30 minutes of leaving the spa, bath salts, bubble bath, and bottled water were delivered to my room without my needing to make a special request. Great attention to detail. I walked through the gym and it seemed large enough for a full circuit workout, with plenty of equipment. I do wish the hotel had more dedicated lobby or guest lounge areas. The check-in area, bar, and restaurant all seemed to blend together into one shared space, which felt fairly busy in the evening when non-guests came in for happy hour. The bar was nice but honestly expensive and not especially memorable. I was a bit surprised by some of the clientele (there were what I assumed to be a couple "working ladies" at the bar who I wonder if their services were less than the cost of breakfast in hindsight), though very friendly occasionally felt slightly out of sync with the otherwise polished atmosphere of the hotel. I didn't try the restaurant for dinner. The hotel does offer a complimentary car service around the local area, though unfortunately it was booked when I needed it. Breakfast was expensive, easily over $100 per person for a fairly normal order, but it was very tasty. The Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked and included truffle, which was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable. I do think it could have used a deeper scrub, though I admit my standards may be skewed by an exceptional housekeeper at home. There was also a slight musty odor. It was not on the level of a room at an average Belmond property or the former Mandarin Oriental Miami, but it was spacious and perfectly comfortable for one person. I'm not entirely sure whether St. Regis considers itself directly competitive with those brands. In summary, the service is what makes this hotel worthy of five stars. They seem genuinely happy to accommodate nearly anything you might need or even casually mention wanting. Personally, I find San Francisco itself dirty, stressful, expensive, and rough around the edges, so having a hotel that felt calm, polished, and attentive made a huge difference in my trip.

If you have both cards, check both portals. If you have the Amex Plat, you are also Gold Elite status so you can get some extra perks such as fast wifi (it's pretty fast lol). Service is top notch. Hotel is clean. Room is beautiful and quiet. I love how the AC is super quiet, I couldn't even notice it turn on. We also got $90 breakfast credit for two. The food is extremely overpriced and $90 doesn't get you very far if you eat at the restaurant. We ordered to go most of the time. Note that there is tax on the food and tip (if you choose). Breakfast: Two farm egg any style. Fine but small portions for $32. Would not order again. Chilaquiles. Also fine but basic for $35. Would not order again. Sourdough muffin sandwich: If you want best value for price ($26), get this. It's seriously huge and filling. California croissant: This one is like an elevated avocado toast. It's really good. Price is $31. The mixed berry antioxidant smoothie is also meh. I can make a better smoothie at home. As part of The Edit they also give you $100 credit to use on food and drinks only at the hotel. It was SF restaurant week so we ordered the $90 3 course meal for dinner at the hotel restaurant Astra. We ordered the duck cannoli (ok tasting but the duck is cold), braised short rib (very good! Love the polenta) and the brussel sprouts (menu said it was gremoleta/garlic/parmesan flavor but it ended up being gochujang flavor and it was overly sauced). Was not a huge fan. The hotel is dog friendly. They give you a bed and bowl and treats. The pet fee is steep at $200 per stay. There is the Yerba Buena gardens across the street (5 minute walk) to take your dog out. The park is clean with lots of grass. This was one of the deciding factors of us picking this hotel because it's hard to find grass area in the city. They allowed me late check out at 5pm which is awesome!! Also, they have a chi hair dryer which is very powerful. Location in Financial District is very central to a lot of eateries and next door to Soma.

The hotel used to be quite a few other properties, so while they may have decorated it, it's not the luxurious experience we've had at other hotels. The views are to die for, we had a room that spanned windows from Golden Gate to Bay Bridge, it was amazing being on the 45th floor and seeing the night sky and morning sunrise. The property doesn't really have a real lobby, spa, and the restaurant is average, as in the quality of the food was just not top notch, and they have access to the best ingredients. They only have two elevators and are quite slow, at a busy time this can be quite annoying. The room itself was small, no real furniture, would have been nice to have a sofa and table with two chairs. There was no dresser. The bathroom was great for one, but small for two. The shower didn't have a bench, no his or her's sinks. The bed when we got into it was super soft and not supportive, when we called they did something really odd and put a board on the mattress and then a topper. I guess they have a guest that asks for this. Why didn't the service people know they have a firm version of the mattress topper they could have switched for us. We didn't have the best sleep. Again, usually the Four Seasons beds are amazing. While this property doesn't charge regular Four Seasons prices, it also doesn't deliver the experience and it would be a shame if the brand started doing this.
