I'm half Filipino and finding Filipino food is not easy outside of certain areas on the east coast. So I was thrilled when my brother found this place and said we needed to try it next time we went to visit parents up in Calabash. It was well worth the drive all the way down to Surfside. The lumpia is rolled to order and he has some creative ideas for nontraditional lumpia filling. The rice was cooked perfectly and the siding was masarap! It was so good I ended up getting a second order to go so I could have it again for dinner. The owner was great fun to chat with, and the whole vibe is very Filipino family. Started by two friends who wanted to open a restaurant serving food inspired by the Philippines, the Manila Grille is located in Deerfield Plaza, between downtown Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet. They are only open from 2 - 8 pm on Wed - Sat, so my wife and I made it a point to go there around 3 on a Thursday. We were the only customers during that time, and got to speak at length with Mike, the co-owner. We really enjoyed it, though their pricing could be altered to be more consistent. The plaza and surrounding area isn't much to look at, and the Grille is not visible from the road. One really has to make an effort to get here. We really liked how the inside was decorated, with a mishmash of Filipino culture on one side (including a pretty good mural of Manny Pacquaio) and a large nature scene (painted by Mike) that gets added to with cinema characters when he gets inspired (examples being Chunk from the Goonies, Sebastian from the Little Mermaid, and my favorite: Frank Dux from Bloodsport). There is even an official arm wrestling setup at one of the dining tables, inspired by the movie 'Over the Top'. Drinks are strictly cans (soda for $2) and bottles. The menu is very focused, nothing too complicated, and very tasty. They were out of the wings and burger that afternoon, but we were here for the Filipino entrees so there were no issues. Lumpia Meal ($13.99) - comes with your choice of three lumpia and rice. What's a little disheartening is that the price of the meal is actually higher than if you ordered the items individually ($11.96 : lumpia and one scoop of rice are all $2.99 each) Regardless of the reason, that's not a consumer friendly thing at all. I really liked the variety of the lumpia, which had been fried very well (crunchiness is always good). The gyro was different, with the side of tzatziki sauce adding a lot of flavor. My favorite was the TNA (Taters and Adobo), the mix worked really well. What I thought would work well (the bulgogi mac n cheese) was OK, probably because there wasn't much filling or flavor. Chicken Adobo Meal ($13.99) - no pork adobo today, so got the chicken. It was OK, decent flavor, but small amounts of chicken breast. We added a pork skewer for $2.99. It had been glazed with banana ketchup and grilled over an open flame. Street BBQ Skewers ($13.99) - liked the pork skewers, so got three more in a meal. It has the same addition problem (individually priced, it adds up to $11.96, less than the meal). The meat pieces on these seemed even smaller, and some of the cuts were grisly. Mike did suggest I get the small fruit salad for dessert ($1.49) and it was good. Reminded me of halo halo, except smaller and without the beans. Lumpia is definitely the thing to get here. read more

Took a chance to try their food. Inside is interesting decors murals seemed to be someone's nightmare. Limited choices on the menu. We decided to take it to go. Portion was a lil bit disappointing and the rice was half cooked. Overall not recommended. read more

Went here with my folks a few summers ago. Friendly owner but terrible service. There were no vegetarian options. We never got the water we asked for, nor our order taken. My ma was so pissed that she said that we were all vegetarian and we quickly left. read more

Mike and Matt are business partners that serve up some good food that you can't find anywhere else in MB. We had the adobo chicken and a special of the day which was rice noodles, veggies and chicken. It was great. Don't forget to try the lumpia (egg roll with unique fillings). Went for the second time and Michael, the owner, is just as personable as the first. We got an assortment of lumpia, which are basically egg rolls with various fillings. He recommended the garlic fried rice and the fruit salad. I liked the frozen fruit salad; it helped to break up the richness of some of the dishes. The banana ketchup is fun, and he shared an interesting story about it. He recommends sauces to go with various lumpia, and paying attention to those small details is a great touch! There are games all around the tables for people to play and just enjoy their visit. read more

Located off #17 Business over in the strip mall by Ollie's in Surfside. It's a little place, with a little menu, ...but jam packed with flavor! Don't let the sketchy strip mall scare you off, this place is definitely worth it! Plenty of parking, not over-priced, no "extra" taxes, delicious food, and one of a kind charm! Opened this past spring of 2023 by two of the nicest guys: Michael Martin & Matt Lamb. Michael is also the artist that painted the big mural loaded with little Easter Egg, semi-hidden paintings of some of their favorite t.v shows & characters, such as: Chunk from the Goonies, Spider Man, Harry Potter, E.T., Space Balls, O Brother Where Art Thou, and many more! A nostalgic and unique nod to some fan favs! The whole place has a funky, eclectic VIBE and is just a breath of fresh air from most of the traditional restaurants in the area. The menu is kept small for now, as they are starting out, but it is filled with good variety. I opted for the traditional Lumpia (just $3 each!!!) and some of the marinated pork skewers ($3 each, so I got two of the spicy skewers). **Available in regular or spicy. Visiting from Maui, this place is fantastic. Food is so delicious, been twice now and couldn't be happier. Homeboy got some skills. Fast service, good beer, friendly conversation. We ordered the chicken barbecue skewers to share and my daughter ate the whole thing. She loved it and she's a picky eater. We had to order another one. We also ordered the lechon kawali and it was delicious. Love the sauce options with Mang Tomas and house made sauces. The Filipino spring rolls was awesome and it reminded me of how my mom used to make them. A reviewer complained about how it's not authentic... this place is in Myrtle Beach and there's not a lot of Filipino clientele so they have to cater to everyone to survive. I actually wish I tried the fusion dishes. We had to come back again for the chicken barbecue, lechon kawali and the Filipino spring rolls on our way out of Myrtle Beach. Foods so good we ate it before taking any pics. We LOVED their lumpia's! We had a bunch of the traditional ones, the pimento cheese and the Reuben. The traditional lumpia's were the BOMB! The pimento cheese lumpia was full of cheesy buttery goodness! It reminded me of a Cheddar Bo biscuit. The bbq skewers and rice were also great. My son loves the pork belly and our daughter was all about their halo halo! The owner was super nice and friendly! It was fun finding all the hidden movie references in the mural wall. I would leave zero stars if I could. The food is mediocre for the price and to make it even worse it is not even close to authentic. You should not call yourself a Filipino restaurant. I went there just to experience Philippino cuisine. I truly had no Idea what that meant. The restaurant was very clean and the decore was pleasant.
