She is the go-to stylist in Bloomington for Asian hair, and she is the only person I will let touch my hair in town. She made me feel really comfortable with her calm but warm way of interacting with me while she worked on my ultra-long hair (my hair was past my waist). I asked to have my hair cut to just past shoulder length, and Tomoko instinctively asked if I usually cut a lot of my hair off and then leave it to grow for a couple years before having it cut again. I said I usually try to trim it every year, but I want it to be low-maintenance (I hate using hairspray or gels or other products in my hair other than shampoo and conditioner). She worked her magic and made sure my haircut was as perfect as possible. At the end of it, she happily said that I should be good for 6 months to a year. I had a terrible experience today when getting my haircut by Brandon. I got a haircut from him a…read morefew weeks ago and it was great, I had no complaints. Today on the other hand, was anything but that. As soon as I sit in the chair I notice he's pissed and not in the mood. He cuts my hair per usual but is moody and inpatient the entire time. When cutting my sides, he asks me if I want it shorter and i tell him yes just a tad. He proceeds to look to the side and sigh heavily, clearly giving off that he was annoyed. He goes on to rush it and completely ruin the evenness and even cuts the top when I didn't ask for it to be cut. The final product was nothing what I asked for and I'd like to say that I don't expect my barber to be happy all the time, but this was different. IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE MOOD TO GIVE A HAIRCUT AND DO YOUR JOB...THEN GO HOME. Not to mention, the entire haircut took only 12 minutes just to give you the perspective.
