The Mandalay Bus was a well known fast food truck when I was growing up; after many years it's finally been given a refurb and is now opened for business once more courtesy of the original owner's son.
Pleased to say the food is AWESOME, with its innovative new cuisine fueled by its affiliations with the 2617 group (Soju Girl, 86, The Abbey) while still nodding it's head to its original Burmese curry roots. Speaking of which the "Uh No Kauk Swe" (Chicken Noodle Curry) is amazing and a fantastic feed for under 10 dollars.
We also tried the Home made pies (this ain't no mrs macs- a huge home made pastry with chunky steak inside will fill u up for hrs), the beef croquettes ( you get six in a serve and they're like mini shepherds pies) and finishing it off with a Nutella Crepe filled with banana and marshmallows is very much the killer for a big night out.
The servings are very generous, prices are great and the guys who work the bus are really friendly. It's good honest unpretentious food but a significant step up from the standard fare you'd normally find at a Canberra food van.
Highly recommended:) read more
