On a snowy, Saturday in January my fiancé and I were driving around exploring the area and spotted The Loyal Biscuit. The name threw us off a little bit because we thought we had found a local dog treat bakery but it's more of a speciality pet store with some toys, collars/leashes/harnesses, a small selection of food and a pretty diverse selection of treats. I would almost refer to it as a boutique but I didn't see any pet clothing for sale. There was also a dog wash area that looked pretty clean and might be something we try out if are in the area during warmer months and our pups get dirty from some outdoor activities. We're all about spoiling our pups though so we picked up some toys, treats and a few cans of wet food because we were running low at home. The toys seemed a bit on the pricier side but I felt like the treats were priced as expected. I managed to find some unique items for them like honey glazed dehydrated beef lung, salmon skins, a reasonably priced antler chew and a few other bits and bobs for them to snack on. About $100 later we were done with our shopping trip and had some very happy (spoiled) pups on our hands. Be forewarned that there may be a cat loose within the store as there was when we stopped in. Once we realized it we were able to strategically keep our dogs away from wherever the cat happened to be but if you have a dog who is reactive to felines you might have an unexpected situation on your hands if your dog noticed the cat before you.

Indy's birthday pup cake and treats.

Thank you so much for making Indy's birthday special. You had the birthday pupcake and treats we were looking for and even gave Indy a yummy birthday treat. We will definitely be back on our vacations. Great staff and owners.

Review Highlights - The Loyal Biscuit Co

I was having a hard time ordering Acana canned cat food from my normal source online, and the local stores in my area had very little inventory, so I was looking for another option.

Fishtails Pet Emporium - Fryeri Hap purchased from fish tails

Fishtails Pet Emporium

(4 reviews)

We LOVE Fishtails! I can spend hours talking to Gene about fish and Jen is soooo sweet and fun to…read moretalk to also! We are frequenters of Fishtails and will always be loyal to them! Anytime anything goes awry with our multiple fish tanks both salt and fresh off to fishtails we go for advice! We drive 45 minutes one way to visit our favorite pet store!

When this store opened I had high hopes for them. Gene & Jenn seemed to care about what they are…read moredoing & their fish care was better than what I've seen in most other places. They initially seemed at least somewhat receptive to constructive feedback. I really wanted to support this new small business and was optimistic about how it would turn out. I started out with a fair amount of respect for Gene & Jenn, and I was really happy their business had opened last summer. Over time they became more prickly in conversations. Concerns about the health/wellbeing of animals were sharply brushed aside- explanations of appropriate enclosures for animals ignored. I am experienced with several species they keep & when I expressed concerns they made excuses. Their birds have nearly no toys or stimulation in their cages. They also have primarily dowel perches, which is very bad for their feet. They keep rats in tanks. They buy ferrets from Marshall Farms- a mill breeder that keeps their animals in horrific conditions. They regularly sell lone rats, lone sugar gliders, etc. These species need others of their kind to be healthy/happy. The owners of Fish Tails think it's okay to sell them to homes alone. It appears money is more important than the wellbeing of the animals they sell. In addition, the same rats and mice they sell to be pets are also sold as feeders. Still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I have gone to them to purchase supplies for my birds- seed, toys, feeders, cuttle bones, supplement blocks, etc. These events were the final straw. Some context for this event is that a number of months ago my partner very politely stated on a Facebook post by Fish Tails Pet Emporium that rats need to be kept in a minimum of pairs. She even supplied some articles for reference of why. When this happened, Fish Tails was dismissive and defensive of my partner's comments, stating that some people can only handle one rat, but ultimately wound up deleting their own comments. We had hoped what had happened was they realized that they needed to do better and so removed their comments that were prepared to die on a hill that has no basis in truth. My partner went in to buy seed for our budgies. When she arrived at the counter, Jenn refused to do the transaction without first berating my partner. She accused my partner of making a fake Facebook profile to harass her on her business page. She yelled at her in the store, while my partner was there as a customer, being unobtrusive and politely trying to purchase bird seed. When my partner explained that the profile IS her real profile and the name on it is in fact her name, she was accused of using a purposefully misleading name on her profile and going out of her way to specifically harass and slander Jenn's store. My partner left the store, leaving the seed on the counter, after realizing the conversation would go nowhere and Jenn was determined to hold a grudge about something that was intended as polite and constructive feedback. Shortly after, I got a phone call from my partner, bawling so hard that her voice was entirely incoherent, apologizing for not picking up bird seed because something happened at Fish Tails. When she got home, amidst hysterical crying, she explained to me what had happened. I am extremely disappointed in Fish Tails Pet Emporium- more specifically with the owners- for thinking that treating a customer and well intending community member this way is at all acceptable. That conduct was wholly uncalled for. I am thoroughly disgusted with their lack of professionalism and their verbal abuse of my partner. That was wholly uncalled for. I wanted to support this small business and continue to patronize them for my bird and rodent supplies, but after this I can't do that anymore. I often used to recommend them to people as a local place to go for information and supplies. I am extremely disappointed in Jenn & Gene for their conduct at this point. A loyal customer is permanently lost.
