Dr. Tichy has always been a wonderful vet to our rough collie, Shelby. She's been very instructive and helped us to navigage two very important events: The first to spay our collie using the less invasive, European method which resulted in Shelby healing within a weeks time, and the second, coming years later, helping us to navigage through epilepsy with our pup. Dr. Tichy has been wonderful with Shelby, getting on the floor with her each time and working with her gently. Staff is very friendly. read more

Someone working there wrote nasty things in my chart about me after making me wait over 1:10 without calling to explain the situation. Very unprofessional. Never fixed my animals issues so I went elsewhere and got excellent care. I'm shocked they are still in business with that level of disrespect for their customers. read more

I am SO confused. I don't understand these other reviews unless they are competitors trying to blemish Dr. Tichy and Atlantic Vet?? I have been with Dr Tichy for YEARS and Years. I made a point to follow her to Damariscotta when she opened this practice. I made a point to stay with her when I moved 2 hours away...SHE'S THAT GOOD! She has stood beside me and my 4 four legged buddies through EVERYTHING. Surgeries, DM, euthanizations, well visits... cuts, scrapes, bruises... you name it. Karin has been beside my dogs. She has NEVER once said NOPE can't get you in. She has never once kept me waiting unreasonably. Her prices are in line with the equipment she has and her expertise. (she can use it properly, she's educated and trained)...there are others out there working from the barn who send you to specialists for simple things, as they don't have the ability to do it....THEN whatchya gana pay when it's a specialist in Portland? Dr Tichy is worth EVERY dime and then some. I have never met a more professional vet or caring person in my life. I have had 18 pets over 40+ years. Dr Tichy had treated 5 of my pets and I wish I knew her years before! I am a snowbird now and have had 3 different vets in two different areas in FL and although good, they don't compare to Dr. Tichy. SHE CARES, SHE LISTENS! She's willing to hear my suggestions, my opinions, my thoughts (no matter how far off base they are!) She still listens! YES Covid has sent a wrench into MANY businesses and everyone in the nation is short handed, so YES there is the possibility that certain things may have a delay. She's ONE. HUMAN. VL Do you know what the surgeries were? Ever think that surgery WAS saving the life of someone else's beloved cat? How do you know it's "elective" surgery that can wait? Just because it's "you" and you aren't a client, you expect all other clients to wait? I get the cat is sick and needed to be put down and I sympathize with that. But apparently there was nothing to be done to save your cat....she probably was saving another animals life. Life comes first. (sorry for your loss, it is difficult) Lesson to others, ALWAYS establish a vet wherever you are! Hence I'm a snowbird, I established a vet the first week I was residing in another state and when I moved, I re-established with a new vet...Both Vets work wonderfully together and share information. I have brought my cats to Dr. Tichy for about three years and have been consistently impressed with treatment we have received. My former vet had misdiagnosed an eye problem with my oldest cat and Dr. Tichy figured it out and got us to a specialist - thanks to her and the specialist, our cat didn't go blind. I am surprised at the negative reviews on here, but perhaps the doctor's no-nonsense approach is what turns some people off. I want a vet to treat my cats like they would their own and Dr. Tichy (and her staff) have consistently done that. read more

Dr Ticky is great if puzzled for years about my ears for years .I got a westie and come to find out that's abreed that is very high on the list to have bad allergies.The other vet I went for years just treated his ears with drops n pills . But still didn't do a thing to fix the problem Then I had enough of that cause his ears was not getting better So I went to a different vet Alantic vet and say Dr Tichy she explained about the allergies westie a have so we switched food and life style of my dog well almost 3years now my dogs ears have been perfect he is much happier and I'm in ahh that's he's doing as good as he isWell all in all I still thank the dr every time I see her and the staff so just my story but it would be a very good choice if your looking for a new vet go n visit Atlantic vets in dammascotta to me there the best thx again read more

NO COMPASSION HERE!! I called first thing Tuesday (8am) concerning my 9 year old cat who was having a problem breathing. I had been up with him most of the night. I was hoping to get an emergency appointment to have him looked at and knew the out come was for him to be put to sleep. I was not a client, as I had moved up from Maryland a little over a year ago. The Vet was busy all morning with surgeries I was told after being placed on hold... and they questioned why he had not been brought in for checkups, etc when I first moved up to Maine. I explained that he was current on all shots. They also questioned where I lived- just outside town, less then 10 minutes. They told me to go to the Boothbay clinic. I couldn't and did not! As a pet owner (I have 3 more cats) I would have gladly had my animal's surgery delayed for as long as it would take to help a distressed and dying animal!!!! Any emergency should be handled with the compassion it deserves and not the idea that maybe time is wasted, and even money perhaps? As I am sure those surgeries are worth a lot more than an examination of a dying animal !!!!! It is absolutely unbelievable that this vet would behave in such a manner. read more

My mother has a 7 year old lab/corgi mix the January 6th she went to work as normal and when someone went to her house at 11 am that morning Jasper was not able to use his rear legs. Her vet advised her that her only options were to go to a specialty clinic (which would have been very expensive) to have surgery for a ruptured disk or to euthanize.That night my mother called me in tears and explained that she was going to most likely euthanize Jasper the next day. I advised my mother to wait until I was able to get a second opinion . I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Tichy who agreed to try acupuncture knowing that this was Jasper's last chance. Jasper came to live with me on January 7th (the day the other vet was going to euthanize him). At the time he couldn't even stand. After the first session (January 9th) there was not an instant improvement but my the weekend Jasper was up standing on 3 legs!! Dr. Tichy continued to do acupuncture once a week and a few days after each session Jasper improved. On February 23rd Jasper went home using ALL of his legs!!! Dr. Tichy not only helped Jasper but saved his life! read more

BEWARE! Excessively high surgery $$$fees, compared to other area vets. They don't automatically give you an estimate of costs, either. You have to be proactive and ask for one before the surgery. The astonishing amount, as it turned out, was about $1600-$2000. I checked with ALL area vets (Damariscotta, Waldoboro & Rockport) and ALL gave a much different and lower estimate of $500-$600 for the same surgery. Also, the service is just inefficiently slow. The person at the desk admitted that she "doesn't really get computers". Every time I went in for an appointment, over the 1 and a half years I was with them, or to purchase pet medications, I had to wait 15 to 20 minutes because, if someone in the back was using the fax, a customer out in front had to wait until the phone line was free to make a credit card payment...very cheap and cheeky. The first appointment, my pet had, the vet actually got on the floor with my dog to "relate' with her. I laughed but it really was a bit cooky. I called to pass on my complaints but never received any follow up which is what I would do, if it was my business. I know it's tough to run any business, these days, but don't pass on the huge bucks onto hard working Mainers. Word does get around! read more
