It's for sure due for a lobby and concession area "glow up" The newer theatres with Dolby sound and recliner seats are clean and the seats are comfy. My only complaint about the seats is the recliner works oddly. It's sort of all or nothing which I'd prefer to have my legs up and not lie down. I'd skip pretzels, mine were cold and lacked any flavor. For the more outdated theatre the prices are high, almost $20 for a movie here which is more than the prices at the brand new theatre in St. Louis so In my opinion, it's too high. If you are into a no frills movie experience then this is the spot! Good popcorn and comfy seats!

They also offer a generous Veteran/First Responders discount as well as discounts for youth and senior depending upon their dynamic pricing schedule. It's where I saw many of the classic Disney animation films and one of my favorite musicals, Sound of Music. Today, I went for a taping of a STL news program. I enjoyed seeing the old theatre that now host, concerts, comedians, movies and a variety of other activities. Seeing the old concession stand, plaques on the walls and the vintage decor added to my flashback of the good ole days. Seeing the second floor as an event space was super cool. Large screen, large seating area, staggered seats, good sound system, friendly staff, and candy dishes in the lobby. I like that it's only a single screen theater, it not only reminds me of the old days but I don't have to worry about sound from a next door theater leaking through. The lobby and bathrooms have a fun collection of old movie posters and headshots, including one of my all time favorite movies - Paper Moon. The Back Lot is new and has comfortable seats, though not recliners. They show more artsy, indie films back there, or movies that have outlived the necessity for the larger seating capacity, and it's cozy. I think it seats 45 people or so. The only drawback to the theater is the bathroom location for the main theater. It's upstairs up a large flight of stairs with narrow steps. My mom hates going up the stairs, even after the film when there's time to navigate the steps. It's definitely a better/quicker trek than the bathrooms at Plaza Frontenac theaters but difficult for people with limited mobility.

Having this table makes it so much easier to enjoy the movie. Trying to hold on to your popcorn and soda, while watching a movie is always a challenge. The screen is a good size for boutique sized theaters. The sound is also adjusted to a good volume. It's not overly load or to soft that you cannot hear each and every line. Concessions are expensive like any movie house. Soda and popcorn are self-serve. They give you a soda glass and an empty popcorn tub and you fill it yourself. If you like buttery popcorn, you're in control of how much you add to your tub. Bonus, they have a small bar that serves, beer, wine and a variety of canned seltzer's. NCG is the only movie house in Alton. Even if it weren't, I'd still be back. The staff is friendly and the theatre itself is one of the cleanest movie houses I have visited.
