So, as with most things, I hopped on Yelp and was shocked with the low ratings and reviews. Nonetheless, I still planned to check it out, I still planned on having my very own experience. I've been twice in the last month and was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, there was ample parking both times (I went to evening shows). Once inside, things were clean (although I haven't checked out the restrooms yet), the temperature was comfortable, and the popcorn was good (you can add your own butter and such!). The employees were also pleasant enough - I'll take that. The seating in the auditorium I sat in the first time was more comfortable than the second, but nothing unbearable. The screens and sound were of good quality too. Side Note: Predator: Badlands was AWESOME! I allow grace for places of business to have an off day at times, fully realizing if that "off" day just so happens to be each and every time you've patronized it then that's probably just the norm. But I also recognize that these days especially , it's hard to find and keep decent employees, and that has a trickle down effect. Anyway, this may not be a fancy theater with reclining seats or call-buttons to order from your seat, but this movie theater is a solid option to catch a movie if you're okay with those things.

They also offer a generous Veteran/First Responders discount as well as discounts for youth and senior depending upon their dynamic pricing schedule. The seats were comfortable. The aisles were large and made it easy for others to get by you if seated in the same row. That was appreciated. All in all it was a nice and pleasant atmosphere. Great Day St. Louis was doing a live broadcast promoting, the centennial of Route 66. The program was not only informative, but entertaining as well. I enjoyed seeing the old theatre that now host, concerts, comedians, movies and a variety of other activities. Seeing the old concession stand, plaques on the walls and the vintage decor added to my flashback of the good ole days. Seeing the second floor as an event space was super cool. The seats are cushy comfortable with foot rest that you can control. They also have a small snack table with a cup holder attached to each chair. Having this table makes it so much easier to enjoy the movie. Trying to hold on to your popcorn and soda, while watching a movie is always a challenge. The screen is a good size for boutique sized theaters. The sound is also adjusted to a good volume. It's not overly load or to soft that you cannot hear each and every line. Concessions are expensive like any movie house. Soda and popcorn are self-serve. They give you a soda glass and an empty popcorn tub and you fill it yourself. If you like buttery popcorn, you're in control of how much you add to your tub. Bonus, they have a small bar that serves, beer, wine and a variety of canned seltzer's. NCG is the only movie house in Alton. Even if it weren't, I'd still be back. The staff is friendly and the theatre itself is one of the cleanest movie houses I have visited.
