What a neat Hidden Gem! Wow! When you walk in the door, you take a walk back in time. There is…read morefudge, taffy, peanut brittle, ice cream and beef jerky, tons of items that are jarred or canned, and so much fun! The workers were friendly and efficient. The restrooms were clean. We have been traveling to Stephenville since January of last year. We've made many trips and every…read moretime that we drove by this place we always said that we wanted to go there. This trip we finally made the turn into the parking lot. Walking in, we were greeted immediately. Our greeter was behind a counter that contained fudge and other candies. My wife asked where the fresh made cinnamon rolls were, but unfortunately they were already sold out. We walked around the business and found it to be quite large. It was well stocked on most things but a lot of it was stuff I had no interest in. We did enjoy watching the ladies making taffy. The wife and I both used the bathroom facilities. We found them to be well maintained and very clean. I was hoping that this store would be similar to the Choke Cherry store in Estes Park. Unfortunately it was not. We didn't get lunch as we had already eaten with our daughter. We did hear several people say that the food was excellent. Will I return? Of course as my wife has to have some of their cinnamon rolls:)

I came here specifically for the sourdough bread. They had a full rack on display and fortunately,…read moreI have come late enough that it was okay to have sliced. The short is the sourdough bread was just okay. I find almost all sourdough bread in TX seems to be undercooked and I'm not sure why. And all the sourdough I have experienced in TX has a different flavor than traditional sourdough bread. It also seems quite heavier than a traditional sourdough. I did ask for it be sliced but the slices were incredibly thick. Easily twice the width of a normal slice of bread. Given the heaviness of this bread and seemingly undercooked that thickness is not ideal. I have certainly had thick sourdough slices before, but those were traditional, cooked and lighter. Maybe the person could have changed the thickness but it wasn't offered. Lastly, when checking out... I was charged 3% for using a credit card. I was informed beforehand and it is displayed... but this doesn't make it okay. As a business owner myself, I know I can deduct bank charges for using a credit card. So, you are charging me 3% and you are taking a deduction from taxes. But to top it off... after charging me 3% more... the server wanted me to provide a tip! Oh, sorry... she just said "the screen is going to ask you a question". What question? Why don't you just come right out and say "I want a tip"? But tip for what? And it's $11 for a loaf of bread.

If items are old they shouldn't be sold as fresh and should be discounted. See pic of chocolate pie I bought for Father's Day. Pie had separated and was runny. The crust was tuff, soggy, and undercooked.
