The Lion Pub is a classy outfit. Wood and brass abound. The beer and liquor selection is admirable. It's not a party pub like Paddy O'Reilly's is but there's always a seat(s) and the service is very friendly and all English speaking. It's a good place to watch sports but never gets too rowdy and the music isn't great and not loud enough for my ears... They also serve a full menu of English, Swiss and international options. It's not a classic pub menu because it's missing a few classics like a shrimp cocktail sandwich and no mashed peas to speak of. It also includes such items as wiener schnitzel, and nachos. It's all just ok. The burger is decent. But the real treat, is the fact that you can order fresh oysters from their sister restaurant around the corner, Brasserie Lipp. The only place to enjoy beer and oysters, that I know, of in Zürich.

Fish & chips: terrible fish ...

Beer: This place gets five stars because it is the only place in town (well at least as I write…read morethis) that carries a wide variety (they have 20 lines available) of independent craft beer on tap that updates it's availability and ever changing offerings to an IT system that is linked to their electronic menu and on-line menu. Service: Let's not forget the people are pretty and the food are pretty decent. Starting with service, you know that can go wrong very easily in Zurich. In here, it is so smooth and uncomplicated because you need to go up and order your drinks and food at the counter. You get a number assigned to you and your party, so that your bill is allocated to that number, which makes ordering pretty easy because every time you reorder you just need to bring the plastic card with your number or just remember it so they can bill it to your number. At the end of your meal when you pay they will just ring up your check based on the number you have. Food: The food is not too shabby here. They have various burgers, from beef, fish, chicken to veggie and all are pretty good on a nicely toasted burger bun. Once I skipped the meal (eating is cheating) and had a nice order of fries. Location/Ambiance: it is very close to the University of Zurich but the prices are higher than average beer bc you are getting craft beer on TAP. So it's not filled with students, it's a mixed crowd. However you will still find one or two groups of students that come here and take advantage of the awesome board games they offer here over a nice glass of craft beer. Covid: During Covid times the tables are not that close together and they do not encourage you to hang around the bar area. Still I felt safe to dine here during Covid times.

I am a massive fan of Alehouse because they have delicious beer and great food!…read more I've only been here twice but plan to come many more times. They have a great list of beers on a screen (it's a digital screen right?) noting the locations and more info about them. Many of the prices are pretty steep, but, I really enjoy the ambiance and the food, and the beer! Last time I came they had an Ethiopian pop-up, or whatever you call it. They were serving Ethiopian food for a limited amount of time. I ordered the veggie platter with different curries and it was really delicious, and so pretty too! I always have a great time here. They also have seating outside.

Walking up the stairs to the main floor you'll see a number of booths for drinks, mingling and whatever else tickles your fancy. You see the bar outline the area with shelves of spirits, wine and beers offering a wide selection of all three. With the DJ tucked away in the corner you'll find people on the dance floor small but intimate with smoke, lights and a disco ball. Upstairs is much more intimate with table service, couches and hookah. Closed off with tarpe and such; it gives a little too enclosed. We ended grabbing a couple drafts and drinks; some drinks mixed like the Painkiller, a fruity drink with coconut rum and my cousin got a Henny neat. Our hookah split between 4 people gave us more than ample time to smoke, drink and chat. The blueberry mint flavor was pretty clean tasting more mint with a subtle taste of blueberry. Not your German spot by any means but for travelers looking to stay within walking distance of public transportation this is a good place to come to

On a Sunday night, this bar is open later than most everywhere else in Zurich, aside from its…read moreLangstrasse neighboring bars that cater to a very different audience (think establishments with clothing optional "performances" and all night hookah bars). It's a bit divey, for sure, but not in a dirty or dingy way. Despite Yelp saying that credit cards are accepted here, the bartenders told me otherwise (with a 30CHF bill), so keep that in mind if you're visiting from out of town and have limited Swiss currency. I'm guessing those instances are probably limited, given the relative neighborhood-y feel to the bar, but with its proximity to the train station you never know. There's not much specifically identifiable as great about Olé Olé, but it's the culmination of everything about the place that just makes it generally lovable. The bartender gals are cheerful and charming, and even manage to have their own labeled beer as a result of their infamy. The patrons are chill, but friendly, so much so that we wound up back at the flat of one of the people we met at the bar to have some after-hours drinks and inevitably chat about global politics (some things never change). Pricing seemed decent, with 4 beers (I think) being about 25-30CHF. They only had the local beer Amboss on draft in two varieties, which was pretty mediocre, but still better than the Bud or Miller products you would find in a similar dive back in the U.S. This definitely feels like more of a shots or whiskey sipping kind of bar. The bathroom deserves its own special mention here, with some of the most odd / interesting decor I've ever seen, featuring a full size skeleton hovering over the toilet with a bouquet of flowers for a groin, and a machine that dispenses something called "Travel Pussy".

The crowd is kinda down-to-earth till the a-wanna-be-a-hipster. The music is nice (alternative - Rock). Prices of drinks are OK. Normal prices for Kreis 4. Just pay attention, it is a narrow bar. It gets difficult when you are with more then 4 people. And you can not be outside because it is right at the street. For sure a place to go once in a while.
