I've been having a hard time writing this review. I have really mixed feelings about my experience at The Lily Inn. I'll start with the pros: The Inn itself was beautiful and charming. It's 3 floors, with a sitting room, dining room, and kitchen on the first floor. A hangout room on the 2nd floor and bedrooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor. There was an issue with the room we originally booked, and Candace upgraded our room for us.l before we even arrived. Our new room was great. It had two parts to it, a king-size bed, futon, and a beautiful bathroom. Candace and the Inn were also accommodating , as we booked on a third party site not realizing kids under 8 were not allowed and they allowed us to bring our 1 year old (he loved the place, too, btw). The bed portion of our bed and breakfast experience was wonderful. The con would have to be the breakfast part. So, first, we should have read their website before booking, as it does state that they serve continental breakfast during the week, and we stayed on a Monday night. As disappointed as we were, that's on us. However, what we were served wasn't even that, in my opinion. There were muffins, some grab and go granola bars, oatmeal packets, and some fruit (apples and tangerines). We were pretty disappointed in the spread. The breakfast options also stayed out all day and also played the roll of the snacks they offered. So when we arrived, the blueberry muffins and granola bars were out in the kitchen to take. We were offered the same thing for breakfast the next morning. Another reviewer stated that this felt more like an AirBnB, and I agree. I think one of the special aspects of a bed and breakfast is not only the charming atmosphere (check, they got that right) but receiving a nice breakfast in the morning. I get weekdays can be slow, so I can forgive a continental breakfast, but there should at least be some yogurt or toast or bagels or something. So, we will settle on 3 stars. We had a few issues with the bead and breakfast before we even arrived, which was annoying and definitely hurt the experience. I blame them, 3rd party vendors, and myself for not putting more effort towards researching the place. After booking through the third party, we thoroughly checked their website, and it explained that they weren't looking to have children less than 8 years old as guests. When I booked, I added my child and his age and we were still able to book (and we paid extra for him). It also explained that there wasn't going to be a hot breakfast. The main reason why I chose a B and B was for the breakfast. I should have read this better, but also don't think they should advertise as a B and B, as the breakfast was terrible. It was the same as the snacks they offered throughout the stay and were generic granola and breakfast bars. I don't eat that. After finding this all out, I called to place to make sure they would allow us to stay there. The person working explained the room we booked was having plumbing issues and that they would give us a nicer room. The room was lovely. Besides all that annoyingness, the remainder of the stay was good. I liked the upgraded room very much and the location was great as far as being on the main street and very close to the water (which was beautiful). It is just sad that their breakfast was terrible and they aren't child friendly. read more

Very pretty B&B, easy parking right outside, and a lovely, large room with twin beds (which are hard to find at B&B's!) that included a sitting area and private bathroom. Sanee was lovely and helpful, responding to our texts efficiently at night, as she doesn't stay on the premises. She also cooked us a hot breakfast the next morning. Our room was very comfortable, but extra blankets in the closet would be helpful as my sister felt cold during the night (no thermostat in the room). read more

Our stay at The Lily Inn was beyond amazing. My boyfriend and I stayed in the Lydia Richie room and very much enjoyed the plush bed and the whirlpool tub that my tall boyfriend could actually fit in! The proprietors, Murray and Gene, were very hospitable and great with conversation. Murray is very well versed in the history of the area and has plenty of interesting stories to share. It was very easy and I felt very comfortable asking for anything we needed. There were always m&ms in the kitchen and coffee and tea for any time of day. The best part? Breakfast, of course! Murray is a superior cook and though I sadly did not take the advice of the other reviewers as far as the French toast was concerned, I still found my breakfast to be delicious and filling. Do NOT go with children. We stayed at Lily inn for one night. We were 2 couples with children. The owner made us feel very unwelcomed and uncomfortable. At the breakafast while we are siting at the table and waiting patiently he made us wait for 1 hour while made food for the rest of the people who came after us. This was very offensive! We were sitting and waiting and our kids kept asking why everybody else is getting food but not us. Obviously we will never return!!! read more

Creepy. We hightailed it out ASAP the next morning. The owner gave a tour to his drunk friends at 9pm and they walked right in our room when the door was closed. While planning my business trip this week to Roebling, NJ I did a search for lodging and came up with the typical set of hotels that server their purpose well, e.g Hampton Inn, Courtyard Marriott, etc. But an entry for Lily Inn caught my eye. An historic B&B on the Delaware river? OK. Why not give it a try? I can report that I made a very good decision. On entering The Lily Inn (named for a relative of the owners, "Lillian") one is greeted with a well appointed parlor / sitting room with tasteful Jazz and Classical music playing softly in the background, historic original flooring from the 1700's, and an almost as historic, yet very playable, grand piano. Also on entering The Lily Inn one meets Murray and his wife, the owners, who are nothing if not warm and welcoming; a nice experience after a day of travel. Murray is a history buff and it's a pleasure to talk with him about the story of the home and of the local region. The experience is more like a stay with a hospitable friend than corporate-oriented lodging which I found to have many more positive than negative aspects. Guests are welcome to a refrigerator stocked with various beverages and an array of snacks, in addition to the provided breakfasts. I have recommended The Lily Inn to my colleagues and will be back there on my next trip to New Jersey. read more

Came here yesterday to spend my first anniversary with my husband and I have to say that Murray, Gene and Harvey made the stay magical. The decor is wonderful- chockful with rich history and victorian design. We stayed on the second floor, the room was very large and the bed was elevated. Additionally the shower had two shower heads along with a seating area. Gene has candy in the hallways and snacks in the kitchen. Also they offer bottles of water to the guests. This B&B allows dog which we were reluctant to bring our pup- Katie. Katie loved the room and especially a space under the bed where she could sleep. Their garden is wonderfully decorated with different plants and wonderfully spaced out. I would say to everyone that the pictures simply do not do justice to this wonderful place. Additionally Murray and Gene are great cooks and you'll have a belly full for breakfast! Bottom line: If you're looking for a great time and are looking to experience a true B&B experience, you'll have that here and more. I would recommend this B&B to my friends and family. Definitely won't be my last trip here! read more

I was flying in for a family reunion and was looking for a hotel. The ratings were either average or farther away than I wanted to drive. That's when I found the Lily Inn. It was perfect. This is a historic house. It has some newer amenities like WiFi, televisions, air conditioning and some rooms have jacuzzi tubs. The rooms are all different. Gene was a wonderful host. Very attentive and gracious. She recommended places to visit and places to eat and drink at. When I return to this part of the country I will be sure to stay and visit with my friend Gene. read more

What a unexpected wonderful place to stay in. The hosts do a fabulous job of making you feel like you're part of the family. The exceptional welcoming and make a delicious breakfast. Order the French toast, the best I've ever tried. The rooms are wonderful, we stayed in the one with the fire place and it was very romantic. There really was nothing I can say negative about our stay. Everything was wonderful from the hosts, the bed, the price, the town. Highly recommend this for a quick weekend gateway with your significant other. Oh and it's pet friendly under 25 pounds which is a huge plus. read more

What a hidden gem and a great find. A friend recommended the Lilly Inn B & B as the perfect setting for my small-group workshop so I decided to check it out! It was perfect! Jean and Murray are great: so wonderful to work with. They were warm and welcoming and made sure that everything was perfect. The inn is beautiful and the gardens out back are gorgeous. The view of the DE River is beautiful and the little downtown area is great for walking and browsing. The Lily inn... what can I say, I was looking for something local to do with my lady. Who is 8month pregnant something different not a regular hotel stay. I can honestly say that I have found more than that here. Is not only different but it is an experience, is a real home feeling. From the people to the place it self it's abundance in history is out of the world. Not to mention the place is over 300 yr old. This was I hit for me I dint know much about this place I thought is was just a bed and breakfast but is more than that. I'm literally walking in a pice of history my lady loves history so when she found out I scored . Is definitely a place to come they make you feel like your home and the breakfast even better. The Lily Inn is lovingly operated by it's owners. They are genuinely friendly and happy to have guests. They personally prepare and serve a WONDERFUL breakfast. They are glad to make dinner suggestions and to assist with booking reservations, as well as giving directions. The area is attractive and very historic. There are things to do and see in old Burlington year-round. The rooms are attractive, romantic, comfortable, clean and large. They have very high ceilings and newly renovated bathrooms. We found the Lily Inn by accident and were amazed at the experience. Jean and Murray are great hosts and the Inn is delightful. Our room had a beautiful antique four poster bed while the bathroom was ultramodern. We would love to have one like it in our home. Just getting the fascinating history of Burlington from Murray while sitting in the living room was worth the trip. We enjoyed the visit so much that on our next trip to Newark in a few weeks we are driving the 75 miles down to the Lily Inn to spend the night. I again stayed at the Lily, this time without my husband (although with friends). I was staying non-contiguous days (2 days, a gap, then another day) and Murray was flexible and found ways to make it work. When my flight to Philadelphia was delayed (getting in at 11pm rather than 5pm) he gave me his cell # and said to call him when I was close to Burlington. (A friend staying there picked me up, and had the key to my room, which worked just as well). The food was wonderful, as was the breakfast conversation. I was looking for a place to sit quiet and edit a script. The Lily Inn was perfect. It's about 2 blocks from the LightRail Station, so I was able to walk, which was a prerequisite. The room was great, the shower, amazing. The house and it's property had many places for me to move around and sit quietly without interruptions. The owners Murray and Genie were great and their small dog Harold was quiet and sweet. Breakfast was made to order every morning. Eggs and French toast are the best. It really was like staying at a friends house without the bother. On the block there are a few places to eat. I was on foot so I did this and ordered in for dinner. If you're coming with a car, I heard of plenty of great places to eat from other guests. I'm looking forward to going back in the Winter as I'm sure it will be cozy there with the fire place in the room and in the sitting room. Also, it's just off of a park where the river is.
