The Baird…read moreis like the central hub for the park serving as the community center for not just the park, but really the town, handling pretty much all recreational affairs and park usage. For my job for example, if we wanted to use the field we had to select a time to reserve it for practice with whatever sport we'd be preparing for. I like this because it's organized and fair. The Baird is also where you purchase and renew your badge for the pool which convenient. The building hosts other things such a book drives and classes for kids but also houses the Pierro Gallery where many exhibits and events take place on the second floor and are too well organized. Surrounding the Baird are basketball courts and tennis courts making feel very much a part of Meadowlands park.

While it mainly advertises and hosts numerous Senior services and activities, is also offers many family /town friendly events and is a great place for information on both the Center itself( weekly schedules,events,ect) as well as around the town and in general. They offer help to town residents who may be struggling and financially tight via the Community Food Pantry once a week,as well as pamphlets ,brochures,and listings for other helpful services to those in need. Recently I was in need of some information ,and not only did Karen (The director) guide me in the right direction,she went out of her way to print /copy numbers for me,and offered extra assistance as well. They often host family friendly events ( such as outdoor movie nights in the warmer months,and indoor seasonal holiday parties) , and you can call ahead and rent for school and social events(Cubscouts, Girlscouts,ect ) . I have been to many wonderful free events with my kids and it is a great place for meeting and catching up with your neighbors ! They offer handyman services, bus trips to various stores within the county ,bingo, and their extremely varied monthly calender of events is available as soon as you walk in. If you have never stopped in ,then the next time you pass by I urge you to check it out and see what you might discover !

It hosts municipal programs and YMCA classes, and offers a welcome pair of gendered restrooms. The building's gain faux Tudor architecture blends beautifully with its leafy, suburban surroundings, while its public restrooms are thankfully modern. Yet the glaring flaw lies in its older plumbing: The original restrooms, located in the event space, appear to be suffering from a lack of maintenance. On a recent visit, a plastic bucket had been placed under the leaky water fountain. Few people enjoy paying for maintenance and repairs, even though the alternative is far more costly in the long term. For the sake of Maplewood residents, I hope the proper officials take steps to remedy this jewel.

In terms of the facility it was easily 4 star level. But you can't leave out Location, Location, Location. The Morris Plains Community Center is in the middle of the Morris Plains Community Park! That means it is next to 5 baseball fields, 2 batting cages, 2 basketball courts, 2 tennis courts, 1 playground, 1 gated sand box, a covered picnic area, a pond, and a community pool. This place gets the 5 star rating because it is surrounded by so many options to have a good time outside. No voters were harmed during the writing of this review. And if there were, FUGETABOUTIT!!!

Competitive swimming pool open daily free of charge to all. When was the last time you had a nice swim for as long as you wanted for free? Like try never! Pool is clean, yes slightly dated but so well maintained. Went there today from 11am to 12, guess how many people there were on all 6 lanes? 4people! By the time i was done: there were 2 left. Yes, location sucks and really this is for people from Newark, Harrison and perhaps Karney to enjoy. Showers are dated and not all work; bring your own hair dryer. But all that doesn't bother me since i can just go home and be there in 5min. Also excellent for kids since they do have baby and toddler depths available. They plan to close it for 15 days renovation but will reopen in Nov. Also i am looking forward to their ice rink hours. Will be available later in fall. Again kids classes avaible for free (from what i hear). All in all i am impressed and will come back!
