The teachers and staff didn't just watch our girls. They knew them, loved them, and treated them like their own. You can't fake that kind of care, and when you're dropping your babies off every morning, it means everything. What really stood out to us was that the teachers and staff were always open to talk. Every day we could find out how our girls' days went, what they were up to, even how they behaved -- nothing was ever off limits. A lot of places feel like a black box once you drop your kids off, but never here. We always felt like we were truly part of our daughters' day even when we couldn't be there. We never once had to worry, because we knew our girls were loved, cared for, and that we were kept in the loop every step of the way. This place truly became family to us. Thank you Rebecca and team!

They did not tell me that was not a good distribution of kids by gender in the classroom. I asked for her to change classroom and they said no. This school is a gem right in the heart of Birmingham. That said, students come from many local…read morecities as it seems to draw many wonderful families looking for a safe and nurturing environment. They accept kids starting at 18 months (don't have to be potty trained) and you can create your own schedule from Monday - Friday. We are sending both of our children there this year. We have noticed HUGE strides in our children's learning and social skills. They do crafts (even the Tots class with kids from 18 - 2.5 years), read books, sing songs and teach lessons of sharing and tolerance. Our son started last year in the 3's program and it was so heart warming to watch him grow and play with his friends. His language improved and we got so many crafts to keep. Our daughter is now in the Tots program and only 2 months in, her vocabulary went from 20 or so words to now stringing together phrases and she pretty much repeats any word she hears. She was also really shy and now is very outgoing and loves playing with other kids. The teachers and school director are like family to us. They are really comforting and understanding and it is so evident that they love what they do! Other things that I believe set St. James apart: they disinfect all classrooms every (yes, every!) day, they have a very strict locked door policy and ID anyone that is not the usual pick up person (I've seen it for myself when a dad was picking up his son and a teacher didn't know him). They do work sheets and it is very focused on education / learning. All of the teachers there are required to do so many hours of training each year too. Again, you can do as many or as little days a week you want and mornings or extend the day to 2:00, they do lots of crafts, they have a balanced amount of activities and field trips and the other parents and kids are just wonderful. I've met so many great moms and feel so happy every time I am there. We looked at other schools and have friends at other schools and truly, St. James far exceeds anything we could have asked for. Check out the school! You can call Shar Wickens, the director, directly and set up a personal visit when convenient for you.

The girls have not had a relationship with their Nanny since when they were just infants. Knowing the environment at home is at a 'good place' is an invaluable aspect when we are away at work. My wife and I are both working through this Pandemic as our industry's are qualified as an Essential Service. I especially am away from home more as my company is a partner with FEMA to transport aid/supplies to areas of need during this Pandemic. We have used a nanny in our home for 15 years. Some have been found by a family friend, word-of-mouth, Care and Nanny Services. As with any family who utilize a Nanny there are stories. But the story for us has stopped with Lena. Comparing our experiences with what we have encountered with Lena is like night and day. Knowing first hand the service you will experience with Lena is very hard to come by. My only regret is that we did not find each other sooner, like 9 years ago. But we would not have found _________ and the girls enjoy her very much. The difference in Lena's Service from other Nanny Companies is her dedication to 'the match'. This is not a, "quick, let's fill a home with a warm body type of service". Nor should it be. Do personalities conflict sometimes, absolutely. But the choices placed in front of us was comforting to minimize this. After the match Lena remained in contact and does what she says she will do. Yet another quality that is rare to find. Christopher and Nicole.
