Galileo Preschool was an excellent, affordable option for preschool in Suffolk County. As a mother…read moreand NYS certified educator, it was important that my child's first school experience was a good one. Ms. Daphnee, the Executive Director, was so warm and welcoming. The staff is as equally as warm and welcoming. The teachers and other staff are NYS certified and have many years of experience. The facility that houses Galileo Preschool and Daycare is well kept and very clean. The curriculum and educational program is equitable to the local school districts. Children are happy, well cared for, and enjoy wonderful learning opportunities such as themed cooking classes each with a Registered Dietitian, sensory play and age appropriate Math, Science and Literacy activities. Galileo Preschool helped my child become ready for Kindergarten and build the necessary social emotional skills that would ensure future success.

If I could leave no stars, I would! My 4-year-old son, who has a developmental delay due to being…read moreborn premature, had 3 weeks off from his regular school, so I reached out to this place to accommodate him during that time. I was very clear about his needs in every conversation I had with them. I called multiple times to provide all the necessary details, and everything seemed perfect for him to start. He began on a Monday--a completely new environment with new peers, he a behavioral complaint. On Tuesday, it was described as a good day. On Wednesday, they said everything was perfect. Then, on Thursday, I got a call from the owner, Margo, telling me they were not a good fit for my son because he required more assistance. I was shocked and devastated, especially since I had explained his needs in detail before enrolling him. I was caught completely off guard in the middle of my workday and had to leave work in tears. What made matters worse was how Margo handled the situation. In the middle of our conversation, she walked out because we disagreed. She claimed that when she went to talk to my son, he didn't acknowledge her, yet when we left, he was saying goodbye to everyone. It wasn't just that the daycare wasn't a good fit for my son; it was the way the situation was handled and the lack of communication and respect throughout the process. I thought it was a good environment, but the lack of communication and respect was incredibly disappointing.

My son's social and scholastic development really improved once he started going to school here. Thank you to the teachers for all of the communication about my son's day and how he's doing, for all the fun and creative activities they involve the kids in, for facilitating his learning and his friendships, and just for being positive, kind, patient, and caring people who gave me the peace of mind of knowing my son is in a safe and enriching environment every day. He started when he was 10 months old and the teachers were incredible with easing him into a new setting to decrease the stranger danger phase. All the staff members are so accommodating and keep me updated during the day so it feels like I'm not missing out on a thing! (Extra bonus points for tolerating a very hands on first time momma!!! They never made me feel any kind of way for asking too many questions or making specific requests about food/changes in my sons routine!) My sons social and physical skills have developed so much since he's started and his little personality has been shaped by the lovely teachers as well! Highly recommend for anyone considering!!

At no point is my intention to discredit Little Leaves, but I can't stay silent about what happened, since after this very unpleasant situation, I unfortunately cannot recommend them. From the moment we visited the institution, they never mentioned any minimum requirements for children to attend, such as needing to be able to feed themselves, among other things. On the contrary, they told us they would take care of giving him structure, helping him with potty training, and his education. To me, it was "music to my ears," but in reality I feel it was more of a sales tactic than reality, since there are other negative reviews mentioning the same thing. My son only lasted three days at Little Leaves and, by the institution's decision, was expelled due to his behavior, without them taking any responsibility for their lack of professionalism, their lack of structure for welcoming new children, and their inability to handle children who were struggling to adjust to a new environment in less than a week. They simply stopped providing service without even allowing a reasonable amount of time before making such a drastic decision -- only 3 days. My son is a child who has received a high level of care and love at home, and from the moment he entered this daycare he didn't feel accepted. The teachers expected him to follow the same routine as the other children, who had already been there for a while. He had just turned two years old a month earlier, and this whole process was completely new to him. Expecting him to adapt within three days is something not even an adult manages in weeks. They made no effort whatsoever to help integrate him -- they simply isolated him from the group. What kind of care is this? Are they actually qualified to care for children? My biggest complaint is that Little Leaves is not prepared to properly welcome children. A new child needs support from the teacher, a proper welcome into a new environment, and an appropriate integration into a group he doesn't know -- exactly as they described it to us when they were offering us on the service, which turned out to be completely false. My son, who is a very sweet child, exhibited behavior he doesn't show at home: he was erratic, pulled hair, and bit -- things he doesn't normally do -- and suddenly, in this new environment, he did them repeatedly. This makes me think he wasn't being treated properly; no person changes so radically from one environment to another without a reason. Contrary to what I expected, all I received were complaints. They had me fill out a report that they didn't explain properly, and at no point did they guide me through the process. One of the teachers had the recklessness to say they needed to "keep the rest of the children in the room safe" -- an extremely strong and alarming comment, considering they are dealing with children, not criminals. It's one of the most irresponsible statements I've ever heard from an education professional. To the owner, I recommend reviewing your processes for welcoming new children, being transparent about expectations and the center's limitations, and better training your staff on how to communicate with parents. I feel deeply disappointed by the treatment we received and by the unpleasant experience I went through. Who can determine a child's behavior in just three days? How would you feel if one of your own children were treated this way?
