I attended UO for a couple years before transferring. The education was good, but it's a large university so there are going to be those courses where you're one of 100 other students in a huge lecture hall. I also took several Japanese and music courses that had 20-30 students, so it all depends upon what you're taking, of course. The university itself is nice, a lovely setting. It's an arboretum, with over 500 species of trees on campus, and there are several thousand trees on campus as well. Pioneer Cemetery cuts through campus--yes, I've used it as a shortcut. The Oregon Bach Festival is kind of headquartered here, with Festival events taking place at the Hult Center as well as other venues around town. The Museum of Natural and Cultural History sits on the east side of campus and shares history of the city and larger geographical area. I visited and saw a really interesting exhibit about Black history in Eugene and I really appreciated this perspective on my hometown that I didn't learn about in elementary, middle, or high school. There is the ugly, of course, which is Nike's relationship to the university. The company started in Eugene when the famous coach Bill Bowerman used a waffle iron to improve the shoes his runners wore, and student Phil Knight partnered with him and it took off. Federal and state disinvestment in higher education makes for partnerships that are vital to the university, which is happening here. Buildings, athletics facilities, etc. are heavily influenced by or downright decided by the man himself, I'm sure, which is uncomfortable. Hopefully it frees up money in other places to hep students attend. I can't say my review is totally unbiased because of the hometown connection--it has a special place in my heart for that reason. If UO had had the major I wanted, I would have stayed there to complete my education--but that's easy for me to say as an in-state student. But I know several folks from Eugene or beyond who went there and are also happy with the education they received and the setting in which they received it, so it's worth checking out.

I knew what the problem was, even drafted a new one to correct it, and just to realize there were a now valid concern about the NEW resume. Desperation prevailed over denial: although a writer myself, it was time to admit I needed help........... I coughed up my pride and looked into various resume services, most being ridiculously overpriced. Perhaps because they were starting from scratch or for CEOs and the like, I don't know, but if someone is that concerned about their resume being exact then you can usually assume they are on a LIMITED BUDGET, no? Just an observation. I emailed Oregon Writing Services when I found their site because it was local, the site was user-friendly, the prices were affordable, and while I am not sure I saw resume revision listed as an option, their list of services was quite versatile so I had a hunch that someone there could help see me through this quandary in some capacity. I knew I was sort of unique in that I didn't need someone to build it from scratch, and in that I really wanted to be----and was capable of being----a part of the writing process. I just needed someone to take the wheel. Turns out I was right. I immediately received an email back from Shane, who apparently is one of the three writing professionals that comprise Oregon Writing Services. He was perfect for the job, having had a lot of experience with resumes. I explained to him my concerns and goals, and opted to send him both my old and new resumes to preview. I then waited on his perspective and feedback as to whether we needed to meet in person or if we could do this via correspondence or if there was no help for me or what..... Shane totally agreed with me on the strengths and weaknesses of both resumes, and said I had a decent grip on resume writing however had absolutely valid concerns about each. This was comforting since I truly felt like I was losing it at this point. Even better, I immediately felt confident he could get me to the appropriate end product. The one I see but couldn't grasp. I was really impressed with his timeliness, thoroughness and efficiency: he asked more than once about the urgency of the project. While candid and easy-going, Shane was extremely professional. Feeling more confident, I offered to send him a hybrid of the two resumes, utilizing his advice (which included suggestions like creating a new email address, etc.). Motivated by his endorsement of a lot of the material already written, I put together a new and improved version that married the strengths of both resumes and sent it off for his review. This time I was pumped instead of pulling my hair out. Shane offered his final edits the next morning, right at the time he said he would, shared his final advice and BAM! Within 24 hours of my blind email query I now have a one-page BOMB resume that I'm thrilled about! It's easy on the eyes, well-organized, simplified yet far more professional. Furthermore, I finally feel like I have a resume that best represents my experience, interests and accomplishments over the years without understating or overstating anything (therefore unknowingly throwing myself under the bus!) It's also very easy to customize for the different types of positions I am looking at, which I love. Shane even provided examples of how he would do this. I literally cannot believe how easy and fast this was to do. Or how much of a difference it's made already in my self-confidence amidst the grueling application process. Hell, I'd hire me! Overall, the price was very affordable and well worth every penny; there is no doubt in this client's mind that many have paid 3 or 4 times as much for equal-to-lesser quality work, and most certainly weren't made to feel like a priority of any kind (like I was). The process was so laid-back and at the same time so much was accomplished. What more could you ask for? I feel it's important to mention from web-surfing that it's obvious that Oregon Writing Services could charge plenty more considering their skill levels and professionalism, but prefer to keep the variety of services they offer reasonable to the surrounding community. That alone is exemplary, and really and truly appreciated. But knowing my resume is razor sharp, totally "me", and perfectly put? Plus feeling confident I'll have permanent employment in no time? THAT is PRICELESS. I can only assume that all projects are handled with similar attention to detail and such genuine concern for the client's end goal. I know this is the best decision I could have possibly made, hands down, and I feel incredibly indebted to Shane and openly thank him for his expertise and dedication. I highly recommend utilizing the valuable (and LOCAL *cough*) resource that is Oregon Writing Services!
