To be honest I had never really considered eating here. JJ has a canteen vibe to it, everything from the red trays you collect your food on to the plastic seats. It's bright and airy inside and there's loads of seating. If you're not with kids you might want to sit towards the front of the café to avoid the play area. I ordered a Caesar Wrap and a flat white. On ordering the chef came out of the kitchen to tell me that they didn't have any lettuce and 'was rocket ok?' - at this point I was so famished I would have eaten weeds so that was no issue, but I liked that he came out to tell me. When the wrap came I was shocked about how packed it was, chicken was literally falling out. Even the presentation was top notch, which I had not expected. The wrap cost £5.25 and was worth every penny. The service was great - from the server to the chef they were amiable and helpful. One tiny negative was that they were slow to clear tables but it was busy and there was one lone server who was concentrating on feeding rather than clearing which is understandable. Overall Jumping Java is a perfect High Street pit stop if you want to dump your kids in the play area and get a bit if peace and quiet or if you want to take advantage of their free WiFi.

It is just another coffee shop for middle class mothers to sit and catch up with their friends. There is nothing the matter with that, but it just isn't for me. There is a wee play park in this place which I guess is great for the clientelle that they are looking for but as far as I'm concerned I'd rather have some good music on or just somewhere to sit and do my crossword. Nothing the matter with this place, although it is a little bit pricey.

Not only do they have a cracker deal on at the moment (something like £12 quid for two courses and a glass of wine) the food is really really tasty. I had the roast beef dinner on this particular day and it was splendid, the gravy was the nicest that I have had in a long time. Also for kids they ring out the crayons and coloring sheet which is really helpful. However the service was a bit slow. Not that I really mind that because sometimes its nice to just relax, but if your 'hank marvin' (starvin) it might be a different story. So go ahead and book yourself a table and find out what your missing out on!!!

The style of the place is to a pharmaceutical theme, for example, the drink menu is called 'Potions and Elixirs' - the reason for this, is that the establishment is named after a well known Pharmacist, who operated in Ballyhackamore many years ago, named, Horatio Todd! The menu is not overly big, but well thought out. I absolutely love the chicken wings from their light bits menu. From Sunday - Thursday they offer 2 courses and a glass of wine for £14.95 which is a good deal. Their soups of the day have always been great too. It's a lovely restaurant to sit in and watch the world go by on the busy Upper Newtownards Road. There is a decent sized car park behind the building, accessed by the first road to the left before you come to Horatio Todds, as you drive up the Upper Newtownards Road.

Well I'd guess you could count the number of these soup, coffee and cake places around the country…read moreon one hand and likely have fingers left. When they say here that the food is home made its exactly that; this charming place is part of the home where the delightfully genteel couple who live here with Freddy. Freddy is a Doberman that one could, for now, hold in one arm and love. They had a dog called Charlie but alas it seems Charlie is no more and as anyone who owns pets knows the heartache at their loss we didn't enquire. We had our own Charlie on tow. Well more accurately on his lead. A rather demented and playful Bichon frieze - not ours but our son's. So another plus it's dog friendly even senseless, playful ones. So here we were. To use a Northern Ireland expression we were in the arse end of nowhere surrounded by fields in part of a house where soups, brown scones and cakes are made from scratch on the premises. I've photographed the menu. I had cauliflower & channa dal soup which came with two warm brown scones 'straight out of the oven' and served with a generous wedge of butter. Five star all the way, but if I were being very picky I'd have preferred the scones to have been baked a while longer and some more salt in the recipe, but that's personal taste. The soup was delicious, served hot and it was gently spiced. My wife opted for their vegetable soup again with two brown scones. There was a tomato & red pepper soup on offer too which was impressive given that the cook was operating in a space smaller than our bathroom at home. We were told that their lemon drizzle cake was ace so after the soups we had lemon drizzle and ginger cake. Again truly home made and darn good. Two other cake types were also available one chocolate brownie style and I don't remember the fourth. There isn't a coffee machine so no lattes frappos nor cappuccinos. I had French press (cafeteriere) coffee and my wife opted for hot chocolate. A selection of teas is also available. It's also a craft place with books, paintings, knitwear and similar for sale. As we enjoyed the food and the company I thought about James K a Yelp friend who writes wonderful reviews. He focuses on environmental considerations (green stars) and we should all remember there's no planet B, the earth is our only home. I guess like me he too would approve of the fact that there's no disposable plastic cups here, there's no coffee to go and there's an environmental sawdust eco toilet out back. I bet James that there's not many of these toilets in coffee bars in California and if that doesn't warrant 5 green stars for this place then I don't know what would.
