I appreciate my thick hair but it's hard to get a bob-cut, hard to find a stylist that can texturize it perfectly so that I don't look like "Dora The Explorer." I'm not even sure this place is open anymore. They never answer their phone, and I've tried calling numerous times and in several different days Thing is. I know they ARE open though, because I always drive by. I've gone there in the past, but it's like they just don't want to be in business. They definitely are not running their business properly. They tell you to make an appt when you go in, even though nobody is doing anything at the time, yet they don't pick up the phone when you call. I really can't recommend the place. Hair stylist Genaro is an extremely talented and gifted hairdresser. I've been looking for someone to cut and style my hair as well as a hairdresser I met in the French Alps on vacation, but NO one could ever do it until I met Genaro! Desperate to describe how I wanted my bangs to look, I asked him to give me "accidental bangs" and he got it! He closed his eyes and imagined what accidental bangs would look like and then he began to trim and he cut them perfectly. I did not have to give him any other description! Every time I go back he does the same thing. He reflects on what accidental bangs would look like and then he creates the look. It's amazing to see him work! Genaro is just as successful at giving the rest of my hair the look I've been dreaming of but couldn't describe! I went from having frizzy hair that had to be held down with moose and hair spray to having calm, smooth hair that can be styled with a blow dryer, no moose, AND NO HAIR SPRAY. And it stays in place and doesn't flying away! Also the shape of the hairstyle Genaro gives me is awesome! For example, when I came home from the Kutting Edge yesterday, both my husband and my elderly mother said, "Your hair looks good! The shape is good for your face." They are tough critics too. went in to get my really long roots lightened to apply color myself at home. She did the whole process and once she started drying and brushing my hair I noticed bands of black in some parts of my hair !!! I pointed it out and she said no it's the lighting in the salon !!! I said no please pay attention and I showed her a section. Then she had to redo it. There were still some sections like that when i went home and checked but I was so annoyed she tried brushing it off like I had no idea what I'm talking about. This has been a long time coming on writing a review for this place. I have been coming here since I was in the 7th grade and now I'm in my thirties, do the math. The original owners are Kosal and his sister Thary with Genaro becoming apart of the team when they opened. Their work ethics of how great they are with each of their customers shows the friendship they have established and is what keeps them open all these years. Unfortunately Kosal no longer works here and he was the only person I would let cut my hair until he left and I decided to give Thary a try. Thary is a master at her craft and a majority of the people waiting here are waiting to see her. Thary does allow appointments so make sure to make one with her if you can. My wife has been going to Genaro now for over 8 years and he does amazing colors, cuts and magic on women's hair. Genaro also takes appointments so make sure to make one with him as well. At first I just accompanied two of my friends who were having their hair done by Genaro, who's the prototypical hilarious gay hair stylist. One of the friends has been going to him for about the last 2 and a half years and trusts him completely with her hair. When we arrived he said that he was running late, and asked if we could be dolls and just wait a little bit, which we didn't have a problem with. The running-behind-schedule situation seems to be one that's an everyday one, just as a warning. While we were waiting one of my friends was going to the smoothie place, so Genaro asked for a drink of his own (I think it was 90 plus degrees that day). As we were there for at least 4 hours, I had a lot of time to observe the interactions between everyone who works and gets their hair done there. Everyone is extremely friendly and it has the atmosphere that all the clients who are there have been going there for years and love it. They seem to do great work with hair, and they're moderately priced. When Genaro was done with both of my friends' hair, you could tell that he's definitely an artist. With the friend who's been going to him for years, her hair looked sexy, modern, yet very wearable. My other friend's hair looked great too. At the end of their appointment, Genaro asked if I wanted to get my hair cut too. I politely declined, as I didn't want to spend money at the time, but I told him that I could come in after a few months when I was back in town and I had a wedding to go to. I booked an 8:00am appointment for a Saturday morning two months ahead. He gave me his cell #, and I asked if he wanted my number, but he said there was no need, and that I should just call in later on to confirm. Maybe 2 weeks before the appointment, I rescheduled for 8:30am instead. After a little reminding of who I was, he recollected, and thanked me for making the appointment a little later. I figured everything would be fine since now he had my number and I had just updated my appt time so I was definitely in the book. Wrong. The day of the appt I walked up to the store and saw that there was NO ONE THERE. I called Genaro (he probably cussed a little at this point) and he made up some excuse that his father was sick, which I accepted at the time. He told me that he'd be there asap and until then he'd call one of his associates who lived closer. Half an hour later, his associate showed up. I think he was a slim bald guy, don't remember his name, but he was great. We both went into the salon, and I told him about what Genaro had said, and that he said to start on my hair. The guys said no, he doesn't want Genaro to get mad, so I practically pleaded with him to call Genaro to confirm (I really wanted to get back home and be on time for the wedding at this point). So he called him, and that's when I realized that he had fibbed about his father being sick. Anyway, turned out that the bald guy would just do my hair...and he really did a great job. He was absolutely a stand up guy (he even offered me one of his tamales he was having for breakfast), I think he's training to be a court interpreter. He was so pleasant and great to chat with, and at the end wanted me to hold my dress up so he could see it with my hair. The price was $35 but I talked it down to $30 since I had to wait half an hour. (He hadn't realized I had been waiting so long.) All in all I might go back again if I was in that part of town, but with reservations. I'm sure they're better with appointments that are just during standard business hours. read more

Thary has been my go to for about 5 years now from HS to now college, she's usually stacked with clients so make sure to try schedule an appointment with her to avoid waiting for an opening, I always leave satisfied she knows exactly what will look best for you even if it means changing what you originally wanted (she'll ask before she does), as a guy it's refreshing to have someone to a very clean high 1 1/2 to a skin fade, she always checks every aspect of your hair to make sure that there are no missing areas. The salon as awhole I would give 3 stars but I would not recomend Genaro to any of my friends. High energy is good for a party but not when you are doing a job like hair coloring. He knows what he is doing but because he was in a rush and talking too much he wasn't consentrating. I had hair dye on my food and hands! And I took a shower and did my makeup before I went so I could continue with my day from there but how when he wet half my face and wipped off most of my makeup? When it was time to pay he said we don't take visa but everyone else was paying with cards, he was going to make me go get cash. Then he said, "oh ok half on your card and half cash", I think that we very shaddy of him and the shop of a whole that it even happen like that.
