TBD Foods - Guests mistakenly chomp the birthday cake! Chef Terrence saves us as we sing Happy Birthday along side his delightful 'reconstruction!'

TLDR: Unprofessional, not very gracious with mistakes and disorganized in the proposal process…read more I reached out to TBD Foods in the last week of September 2025 for a wedding in Denver in August 2026 after working with him in 2018. I am from Denver but live in CA currently and am planning from afar. Sent an incredibly detailed inquiry with day-of event timeline by hour, menu ideas, location (just a few blocks from their prep kitchen) and a bit about the event. Received two separate responses from he and his wife, Holly, seeking details already provided in my initial inquiry like guest count, location, time. Sent several emails back and forth clarifying capabilities, menu ideas, rentals etc. and finally had to set up a call in October (initiated by me after many proposal mistakes) to align. There was constant confusion regarding the style of the event and rentals - TBH, the many proposal revisions due to their mistakes maybe should have been the hint this might not be the best fit. But we went ahead! Terrence was late to the call on October 15 but let me know ahead of time and I genuinely didn't have an issue with it. After aligning, I paid $100 to have a menu tasting on Monday, December 22 when my husband and I would be visiting Denver from CA. So, this is a tasting that has been on the calendar for at least a month. When we arrived at our tasting (after confirming via email the week before and day of) 15 minutes before (6:45p) the scheduled time of 7pm, Terence is irate. Mistakenly, the event in my calendar was in PT (since we live in CA) instead of MT. He says that he refuses to serve us because we have "disrespected him and wasted his time and he has a 4-month-old at home." He continues to say that we are disorganized and lack care and that in addition to not offering a tasting, he will not put in the effort to cook for our wedding after how we've treated him. We are SUPER apologetic - this is something we've spent money on, confirmed via email and have been looking forward to. When asked why he didn't call to check on our arrival time, he said he "doesn't have my phone number. And you confirmed with Holly so that should have been enough." Because I filled out an entire inquiry on their website and spoke with him personally to schedule this tasting, it's BUCK WILD to say that you don't have my number and think sending an email is problem solving enough. We would have literally hopped in the car and been there in 15 minutes had we been given the courtesy of a phone call. All of this to say, we made a mistake, were very apologetic and were treated super rudely and given no tasting despite paying. 0/10 for TBD Foods.

He had car trouble. He was having some issues with his girlfriend. He had said that he wanted to move with us to where we actually live and reside because again I was only there for a week, but by the end of it, he said that he had literally been on no sleep for five days so I feel like Chef Randy should've like thought about his situation before you know he signed the contract because you know when he did come it just seems sometimes it was him. He was exhausted. He had to take the Uber there. He lived an hour so he was Uber an hour there an hour back and I just feel really really bad about those things so let's put that apart now let's pin that OKthe food, the bogies good good he did get the ricotta for me but the first night when I was looking for the creamer and coffee that we had asked him we sent him a picture because remember he was our chef so he was doing all the grocery shopping for the week. He literally did not get the creamer. He literally did not get the coffee. He got the coffee pops for the Keurig, which I don't use because I don't wanna deal with the plastic and the chemicals. I rather just percolate it so there were some things that were off, but his food was delicious. I have to give him that so while I could've gave him five stars, I did wind up giving him four because I feel like his food was very good. I just feel like the professionalism could've been handled in a whole different aspect, but I would recommend Chef Randy I would ask him before you get into contract, if his car and everything is resolved so that way you know he doesn't seem frazzle because when he seems frazzled, it's a little crazy but when he's doing the job, he does a great job

This time I was driving home at 3:30 p.m. and I pulled over to check it out--just in time as they close at 4 p.m. I had no idea that this was one of the oldest food businesses in Denver. The grandfather of the current owners started the business in Bay City, Texas back in the late 1960s, moving to Denver in 1980. The walls of the dining room are full of memorabilia that provides an interesting history of the city. Frank's main business is catering and they can handle extremely large events. They include set-up, take-down, food tables, and servers. They can also provide tents, tables, and chairs. Food options include whole, smoked pigs, smoked turkeys, brisket, sausage, pork ribs, chicken, and pulled pork plus sides and desserts. Although the business is mostly catering, there is a small dining room at their headquarters and you can stop in for a plate or a sandwich or items by the pound to eat-in or take out. The hours vary and are limited, but they're generally open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. I tried a three meat plate with brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs with sides of cole slaw and pinto beans. The brisket was awful. It was sliced paper thin which was a first for my lifetime of barbecue experiences. It was also totally lean, tough, and flavorless. The pulled pork was tender and pretty good. The ribs were OK, flavorful, but hardly fall-off-the-bone tender. The beans were cooked nicely, but I would have preferred a little more barbecue flavor. The cole slaw was great, very creamy and fresh. I don't expect the cole slaw to be my favorite item on a barbecue dinner, though. I don't think these guys do a lot of volume over the counter. They are probably a better choice for catering.

I have also been happy with the issues that I did encounter being addressed quickly and resolved with high professionalism. The chef I work with is versatile, friendly, so great at flavor profiles and trying out new recipes, and extremely kind. Coming out of COVID and the two years of unending cooking without many breaks with to-go food, I finally reached my adulthood burnout with cooking. Instead of being the one to have to carry this responsibility for my family anymore, I searched for solutions to help me out. For me, the meal kits offered on the market today were not going to be helpful because of food allergies and diet restrictions I had. The benefit of having support with food for your family is that your goals with nutrition are much easier to hit, you aren't swayed by mood, you can control the quality of your ingredients better, and there is always something to eat in your refrigerator. In this economy, and with restaurant prices being so high, we can get swept away paying for to-go meals the same amount we pay the weekly fee for our chef if we eat out every meal more than two days in a row. By having this service, the amount of money we pay to get the help, is far less than if my family had to rely on take out because I refuse to cook anymore. I seriously don't understand why the expectation for someone who can cook, is that they have to cook for the rest of their lives. But someone who can't cook, is unburdened and its pardoned. Ugh, but I digress.....this service might seem pricey but if you compare the cost of take out, its easily the cheaper and more amazing way to go based solely on quality and quantity you get. How it works is that you submit your inquiry to Round the Table for a private chef, outlying the needs you have and they come back to you with some options of the quantity of entrees per plan they offer. Then you are paired up with an independent chef they hire for you, and you begin to have a relationship with that chef preparing a menu for your family. They take into consideration all your dietary needs, and offer you a meal plan that rotates weekly. You can alter and adjust this as needed, and if your chef is open to it, you can even send them recipes you want them to cook for you. The service includes the chef obtaining the groceries for you, or you can do that part if you want to control more of the ingredients being used. Then they come to your house and they cook for you. They use your containers, pots and pans but most all come with their own knives and some tools they prefer to cook with. We have no plans to change our services any time soon, and we really really really appreciate the support and help. Its really helped our health so much to have these foods being made that support and nourish our dietary goals. I highly recommend this service!!! Cammie is very good to work with and is very accommodating of your dietary preferences and works hard to make sure you are paired up with a chef you enjoy the cooking style with. They often have waitlists for new clients, but that can change so if you are interested in this service, its 100% worth reaching out.
