Small activities like their backpack drive in August and the Toy Drive in December reach hundreds of kids in McHenry County. What;s more, they are 100 volunteer driven, so every dime goes to fund their programming and community outreach. April is Child Abuse Awareness month and the group kicks of the Blue Ribbon Campaign with events and activities for the whole family, ending with a charity 5K race to benefit the organization. Volunteers are always needed and are a big part of what makes this group so special. It's an example of what a few dedicated people can do together- have a huge impact on the community! From the web site: It's Our Little Secret (IOLS) is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers dedicated to providing a voice to emotionally, physically, and sexually abused children and teens through advocacy, creative expression and various programs. It is IOLS' mission to promote a healthy recovery for the abused children and youth, and to stop the destructive future behavioral patterns of the abused towards their own and other children. It's Our Little Secret's goal is to make a difference in the lives of the children and youth through our various programs and services. It is our goal that the youth that we serve will learn to love themselves and enjoy life, learn to LIVE and not just survive.

I occasionally work in Rockford and I've been coming to the Rockford Restore since they opened. This is the first time I've had a bad experience. Reading the other reviews, I see I'm not the only one who's had issues with their customer service. I get that they are mostly volunteer staffed, and volunteers cant be held to the same standards as paid employees, but you should know how to deal with people. First I asked about the price of an item that wasnt marked. I was told that I should have known what they cost, the same as all similar items. Ok, fine, moving on. I bought a bunch of items including a ceiling fan. After paying, I asked if they had a screwdriver I could use to disassemble the fan to fit it in my car. The woman working the register said she had no idea if they had one. So I went to the section where screwdrivers were for sale, took one out of the bin, and started disassembling the fan. The woman at the register literally started screaming at the top of her lungs that I needed to drop the screwdriver immediately, that they couldnt possibly sell it after I had touched it, what was I doing?! I mean literally screaming. At that point, if I hadnt already paid for my items, I would have just walked out.
