Rich Alexander came out and gave us a ton of information on what to buy and where to get it. Rich gave us so much advice on the types, brands, sellers, required methods. Our project was a bit complicated. We had the room extended and the contractor did a poor job of laying the concrete floor. It wasn't level, it had high and low spots, it was uneven. It required a lot of correction. They poured a liquid concrete floor leveling compound. Once they had the floor corrected, they laid the engineered hardwood. Originally, we considered 3/8th sold hardwood but Rich advised on the engineered floor, the solid hardwood will sometimes take humidity and the planks might change. Once they got started laying the floor they went very fast. Working as a team, one cut the planks, a second spread adhesive and the third trim cut planks and laid the wood. Something I wasn't aware of is dumping rubbish fees. The Puente/Rose Hills landfill is closed. They have to take your old carpet to a transfer station instead of a dump. Dumping fees could be well over $!,000. Alexander might not be the least expensive but consider your floor is going to be there for 30 - 50years. You might as well get it done right.

Customer-Centric Sourcing: What I appreciated most was that Andrew respected the choices I had already made. I had selected a specific engineered hardwood from a wholesale flooring store, and instead of trying to sell me a different product, he helped source the exact flooring I wanted at a competitive price. Problem Solving & Timeline: Our project was quite extensive--covering the entire 1st-floor living room, 3 bedrooms on the 2nd floor, and 18 stairs(1,090 sq ft). The team completed the major flooring installation in three days (May 27-29). There was an unexpected issue. When the manufacturer gave defective stair noses, rather than installing them anyway, Andrew caught the flaw immediately and proactively handled the return and replacement. Once the new materials arrived, Andrew came himself on June 5 to finish the final details, including the last 3 stairs. An Eye for Design & Detail: The part that impressed me the most was the attention to detail. Andrew and his crew inspected individual planks to ensure the wood grains and natural color variations flowed seamlessly. He and his 3 man crew showed up early the first day and got about 80% of the repairs (and there were A LOT), and the bulk of the sanding. He under promised and over delivered to a great degree. This company really seems to value doing quality work. The price was almost too good to be true. I was still finishing up two bathroom remodels on my own house and mentioned the rate I was given and those contractors said it was a VERY good rate. Over the last year I have had to hire several contractors for my own home and my experience had been overwhelmingly bad with contractors not showing up, doing half-assed work, taking time off to do other projects while I'm living in construction chaos. Cruz Hardwood Flooring restored my faith in contractors. I have refinished floors on my own before and it was a messy job. He came on time and finished under the promised timeline with high quality work. His price was also reasonable as I compared it with other hardwood contractors. Apparently we had invested in some of the most complex mosaic glass tile to work with and needed to find an experienced tile pro if this was going to happen to plan. Of the three tile pros I called, Josh was the only one to contact me back right away, and showed up a couple days later to assess the scene and provided a bid the same day. Once work began, Josh and his assistant Chono spent the better part of the first day meticulously measuring out and planning the install, and two more days to set and grout the tile. When we were undecided about a grout color, Chono even made a nice mockup panel for us to look at before he came back the last day to grout the tile. Now that the tile has dried, it looks absolutely beautiful. I love that they took the time to make sure that the pattern aligned perfectly with the window, and their attention to detail is completely evident in the small crevasses and receptacles they tiled around, rebuilding our pattern with tiny cut pieces. Apart from the install, Josh was easy to communicate with over email and texts, always on time, left the work area neat and tidy, and came in right at the estimated price, no surprises. Josh gave me a complete quote covering all aspects of the work from the start. Nothing changed, all work was performed exactly as stated at the outset without any surprises or upcharges. Josh troubleshoots the project from the get-go and is thorough. I did say the work was enjoyable which sounds strange, I know, but if you've had a disaster in your home from a contractor before then I can assure you the prep work they do is a dream. There was no tracking debris in and out. The workspace was isolated and our home was disturbed as little as possible. Artobrick tile is installed one tile at a time.
