Really nice diving boards, Lanes so you can lap swim Huge shallow area perfect for kids Lots of comfortable lounge chairs and shaded areas The lifeguards are on point as well. They are always walking around the pool and don't seem to ever slack off. If I had children who couldn't swim I would feel secure knowing the lifeguards were around.

There are no gyms in the South DeKalb area. The closest two on Flat Shoals Pkwy (Anytime and Ladies…read moreOnly) closed permanently as well as the YMCA on Snapfinger. So a large, clean gym with classes and affordable prices is a blessing! I finally had a work out. Despite the humid pool, the workout area was comfortable. One TV was set to the "Groove" channel so songs such as "Rock Steady" by the Whispers were about as old as the equipment - late 70's, early 80's. My last gym (Decatur YMCA) had new equipment but at $67 per month, membership at Beulah Family Life Center is less than half the cost. And with the exception of a row machine, BFLC has 75% of what I need. The cardio machines are pretty basic - a few bikes, ellipticals, treadmills. But the dated Lifestyle machines and free weights are enough for a full body workout. There's spray and paper towels to sanitize the equipment before and after use which I appreciate and an employee was making sure everything was clean. The gym is open weekdays until 8:45 pm, until 5pm Saturdays. Considering the clean, spacious workout area, free parking, fun classes like ballroom, economical cost, heated pool with showers and locker room, it's definitely worth joining!

There's an area right down by the railroad tracks where there are some businesses, and they could really do a lot with that with bars and restaurants and mixed use. During the holidays, especially Christmas, they do a nice job of decorating the town and making spirits Bright. One of the coolest additions in recent years is Volkstuin. https://www.volkstuin.us. I have been to a few gatherings there, and it's a really cool vibe, community garden, Dillon's restaurant, great patio for parties, and office space. Last, but not least, Dough in the Box donuts are in downtown Austell - amazing. Definitely worth a trip all on its own. The chocolate cake donut with chocolate frosting is my favorite. They have awesome fritters also. They usually open quite early and everyone who works there is super friendly.

So if you get distracted at your own college library because you run into everyone you know ever and instead of hard core studying, you end up ordering pizza and sneaking in beers to party in the upper halls (not me of course), I suggest you study at Emory's library. Just call the front desk to find out the hours available for visitors and to ask about parking - you don't want a $50 dollar parking ticket. My favorite room is silent hall on the second floor. It is filled with those big wooden tables with green hooded lamps attached in the middle and large comfy chairs. No whispering allowed.

The staff is nice, and helpful, and kind and helping me feel that I'm not a spaz for my large print love. Ms. Elise seems to really enjoy her time with the kids. She has remembered *everyone's* name (I'm really impressed!), she reads aloud age-appropriate stories (we're going through an alphabet theme right now), and she has many crafts available for any families that want to take some home. The crafts are simple and often require some gluing, pasting, or cutting. Expect to have some adult supervision or assistance required. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to browse the books and other resources at the library yet since I'm always there with my kiddos and they want to go to Oakdale Park right after storytime, but the place is on the smaller side and has a friendly staff. Masks are currently required and social distancing is encouraged. (The Omicron variant is at large at this time of writing.) Storytime groups have ranged from 5-12 kids lately, but there was a recent 19-kid day when and special policeman guest visited and let the kids get into his car. (This was the "P" day. Ms. Elise had read Officer Buckle and Gloria to go with the theme.)
